Starting any minute for anyone interested in listening or calling in.

It will be interesting to see what his take is given the recent positive reports.

Thought it might be interesting to discuss it here.

Pretty balanced and sensible so far.

It isn't Sarah Jarvis either, it is a different doctor.

Excellent comments from the expert about balancing the risks of obesity with the risks of the drugs.

She also pointed out that some people may need to stay on maintenance long term and explained that many conditions require life time treatment.

Very positive so far, callers coming up soon.

Yes it's Dr Philippa Kaye. She's really lovely and always comes over well.

Didn't Vine just call them "silver bullet" because "nothing suggests otherwise"

Meanwhile, the typical sustained weightloss seems to be 15-20% from starting weight.

Meaning most people who use the jabs right now start off Fat and end up ... fat. Less fat, but still fat.

I appreciate that less fat is improvement which is good thing... but not what I'd call a silver bullet.

I turned it off. Radio3 is nicer listen.

I’ll need to listen later on on catch-up. GLP-1 Agonists are probably the ‘discovery’ of the decade (I use inverted commas as they have been around for a long time already but more that their expanded use is the discovery). There was another study released today about their protective cancer effect over and above the weight loss portion, they are being studied for possible benefits to people with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, addiction, fatty liver disease, and a bunch of other stuff. Their development and subsequent expanded use is a very significant medical event. The statins of the 2020s maybe (and perhaps even more significant with the numbers of people they can help). Good to see media coverage becoming more balanced!

I have lost nearly 5 stone with the help of these injections. It has transformed me , my health and my mental wellbeing. A significant part of this was because they knocked out alcohol cravings . It’s been almost life changing not to crave wine after work every night. I’m hoping that a trial / study is completed to see how this medication could be used to help other so called “grey area” drinkers like me.

The calls were a bit pointless and crap, almost as though no one called in with anything useful to say.

A woman who claimed not to have lost a single kilo but also didn't seem to know what dose she was on and someone banging on about BMI.

I think given the health benefits of reducing your weight by 20%, and all the other benefits of mounjaro they are pretty miraculous. Silver Bullet is going a bit far but typical Vine hyperbole.

The 20% was within the study, I suspect that as time goes on and understanding of the best ways to use these drugs improves the results may improve too.

Many people funding MJ privately are seeing much better results. I have lost over 20% of my bodyweight already.

The calls were a bit pointless and crap, almost as though no one called in with anything useful to say.

A woman who claimed not to have lost a single kilo but also didn't seem to know what dose she was on and someone banging on about BMI.

I notice she said she had a starting weight of 75kg in September (which, unless she was only 5ft tall, isn't exactly massively obese - it's a BMI of around 32) She also then said she had been on Wegovy for 3 months, then Mounjaro for 3 months. When asked if she had gone up in dosage in accordance with medical guidance, she said she was on 1mg, which isn't actually a dosage on MJ. The starting dose is 2.5mg. So she obviously didn't understand how the medicarion and the process works.

For what it's worth, I started Mounjaro in October and have been a slow loser, but have still lost 17kg, which is about 16% of my body weight. The Dr on the programme today confirmed that this was possibly the most important aspect of the jabs - losing that very dangerous % element of being obese. And yes, I will stay on the jabs from a maintenance point of view for life if need be. I'm disabled and have ADHD and Autism and it's helped me with inflammation and self medicating tendancies.
