Hello, I am interested in starting Mounjaro but am anxious about a few things which maybe someone could help with.

My BMI is over 30 so I would be prescribed it, I assume. My concern is doing it without full clinical supervision - ie if I use a private pharmacist and not a GP. Has anyone gone via a private GP and then prescription? Or do some of the providers include full consultations? Do I need bloods tested before starting? Or an all over MOT?!

Do I need to inform my GP that I'm starting it or would I just update at next appointment next time I'm there about something else?

Do you take a lot of supplements if food intake is much lower?

Finally, are there many threads about people who have stopped mounjaro (at target weight) and broadly sustained weight loss? Or does it really need to be a lifelong commitment? At £200ish/month (at today's prices!) it's a huge cost.

Thank you so much in advance.

Not many will be using a private GP due to the additional expense, you might find a few people but it's not very usual. What do you mean by a "full consultation"? When you apply online you give your full medical details, and then you are screened for any contraindications or issues. You also submit photos, video or do a live video consult to check your weight and height. Once you've submitted the form, the consultation is then reviewed and approved/rejected by the prescribing pharmacist or doctor.

You don't need blood tests before starting. Some online pharmacies offer them, Numan do I think, as well as SheMed. You can get a home blood test privately online as well if you like. You also don't need an "all over MOT", although again, if you want one you can get one done privately at any time.

Do I need to inform my GP that I'm starting it or would I just update at next appointment next time I'm there about something else?

The online pharmacies will ask for permission to notify your GP. Typically they send a letter that outlines what you've been prescribed, and when the GP surgery gets the letter they just update your notes with the prescription info. You can check that on the NHS app, if you have it.

Do you take a lot of supplements if food intake is much lower?

You don't need to take a lot of supplements. I always take a decent multivitamin so continue with that. People will recommend all sorts of things, but none are essential, it's personal choice. Your food intake should not be so low as to make it impossible to get sufficient nutrition, long term.

There is a long running thread for those who are maintaining. Some have stopped taking it, some are taking various levels of doses for the longer term. It's personal to each individual.

BTW, it really doesn't have to cost £200 per month, that would be at the very expensive end of suppliers. I haven't paid as much as that at any point. The medication is the same regardless of where you get it from, so you may as well look for the cheaper/est options for where to get it from. The lower doses are usually around the £100 mark, and even the higher doses can be found for under the £200 mark.

I'm with Livewell and they're great because you can just call them and talk to a pharmacist. It's been brilliant. I would say just call them and ask them.

I was with simple online pharmacy and with them I just talked to a chatbot or a call centre. Livewell are so much better for answering questions.

I told myself I'd do a month/week on mj and then I would stop if I didn't like it, but it's been absolutely fantastic for me.

@SleepBecomesHim321 there is a comparison website for Mounjaro online providers, https://monj.co.uk which lists regulated providers and shows the cost of each dose level. People will recommend their personal favourites for whatever reason, but do check out the range of suppliers.

My provider required a full medical questionnaire and a full body photo. I was also asked to give permission that they could share with my GP (which I gave). No bloods needed or MOT.

Food supplements - I take a multi vitamin each day. That's it.

I do plan to keep taking it forever. I never want to put the weight back on again. But I am sure there are some who stop and manage.

For extra info my provider Voy, also provides an online coach, an app with blogs and tips, weigh ins, feedback on my diet, it syncs with my steps on my phone.

I'm getting mine from a local independent pharmacy and I've had a face to face appointment each month (three so far). This is my choice - if I wanted, after the initial consultation, I could contact them online or by phone. I like this, but it's not as cheap as some people are getting it from online suppliers.

I also have issues with deliveries to my house so I wanted to be able to pick it up whenever I wanted.

At the first appointment they noted my weight, height, any history of gallstones or thyroid cancer, any other medications etc. Not really very intrusive at all.

I take a menopause multivitamin, B complex, and high strength D, all of which I was doing pre-mounjaro. The only thing I've upped, or rather made an effort to become more consistent with, is magnesium. I use protein powder and psyllium husk powder (fibre) in smoothies to up my intake of those when I feel very suppressed.

Yes @GiveMeWordGames my local pharmacy does this too and it's definitely worth it for people who need extra support. I'm not keen on uploading pictures of myself or doing weight verification videocalls and would much prefer to do it in person, so if that's a deal breaker for anyone I'd definitely recommend a local pharmacy where it's just a chat.

I talked to my nurse when I had my annual diabetes check and she said that if I bought it privately, they would be happy to support me with taking it and do regular checks, blood tests etc. I would ask your GP surgery what support is available to you.

I need their support as I am on various meds so need to know if I need to keep taking them/reduce dosage etc.

She also said that while its not on the NHS yet for weight loss, that I would qualify when it starts and that being on it privately already would not stop me from being able to switch to NHS.

Thanks for all the Mounjaro advice it really is helpful.

As someone who will start this in a couple of weeks What symptoms should I expect?

What foods will be better to eat?

I am aware it is different for all I’m just after a few pointers .

Can anyone recommend a good source & do they always inform GP?

Apologies for the inquisition.
Thanks in Advance.

My BMI is over 30
You are ideal for it

No I went to Numan and IQ Doctor

Do I need bloods tested before starting? Or an all over MOT?!
NO
They inform Gp.

You eat less carbs and protein and fibre.
You don't need supplement but I take magnesium as I am constipated. Water or fluids like water and splash cordial very important. And add in weights. Go to the gym or work out at home

It's not a miracle . You have to commit to healthy eating and exercising. I weight myself daily and record food iny fitness pal to gain insight.

I use IQ doctor and order a higher dose and spread dose
