Microdosing at beginning- low and slow advice (Mounjaro)

Catty123Ma · 06/05/2025 07:02

Looking for some advice please! I have about 25lb/10kg to lose following 2 back to back pregnancies. I cannot shift the weight.. so I am considering trying Mounjaro.

I have a lot of friends that have been on it and I have found that they have lost weight so fast.. I am in no rush what so ever and the speed of this loss scares me. I would be very happy with a pound or 2ax per week.. if possible. I would love to listen to my body and build better habits while I lose.. I feel the speed of the way my friends have lost weight won’t work for me.. I am also extremely conscious of hair loss.. which is why I was hoping for very slow and steady.

Has anyone worked with a provider that micro dosed from the beginning. I appreciate that the regulated and tested dose is 2.5 .. but I am just looking for some advice on how I could make this work best for me.. thanks so much 🙏🏻

A pound or two per week is standard with usual doses.

SantasLargerHelper · 06/05/2025 07:10

My friend and I both took smaller dosages from a 2.5 pen. Both of us have had slow and consistent weight loss this way.

A bonus is avoiding any side effects as well. Definitely worth a try. Just count clicks and try perhaps half a dose initially.

Catty123Ma · 06/05/2025 08:34

never thought of that.. splitting it with a friend..

dis you start on 1.25 each and still losing? Would love to hear more about your story. the idea of minimal side effects is perfect with two smallies running around my feet!

This. I take 2.5mg and have done for almost 6 months. My initial week was quite a big loss but I have a lot to lose so that’s usual. I have been losing 1-2 pounds a week steadily.

the thing about wanting to manage how much you lose is working out the calorie deficit you need. MJ should just support your new diet not control it

WitchesofPainswick · 06/05/2025 08:56

I'm microdosing on 1.25mg because I'm always very sensitive to medicines. I had quite noticable side effects the first week but nothing since, apart from constipation, which is managable.

I've lost 1 stone in two months and very happy with a slow loss. I have two to lose in total (v. short so BMI was 30).

Yes, we haven't needed to move the dosage up in fact. I think they are overdosing people tbh, if you have suppression and gentle weight loss at the lower doses which we both have had since October then I'm not sure why you need to keep moving up. It's been absolutely brilliant for both of us. You just buy a box of extra needle ends.

Both of us are now at a weight where we are completely happy. Neither of us wanted to be too thin. Now wondering about maintenance really.

Are you able to use the second half of the dose?

No - I'm getting five doses out of a pen but the pen itself shouldn't be used after 30 days (I'm stretching it to five weeks/35 days!). So no cost benefit.

InfoSecInTheCity · 06/05/2025 10:00

Before considering dosing, have you checked you are eligible? You need to have a BMI of over 30 or 27 with weight related conditions. If you don’t meet these criteria you will need to either lie to obtain the medication against advice or buy it from an unregulated source.

This is exactly what I am looking for! I need to find a friend now to split with.. would you mind if I asked you your start weight/how much you’ve lost over that time.

I’m currently 13st 10lb and would like to get to 12st. I’m 5ft 8inches (173 cm). I’m sure if I checked I would be told 12st is still to heavy but like you I don’t want that be super skinny.. just happy and comfortable. Thanks!

Please don't share prescription medication!

SilenceInside · 06/05/2025 11:42

Passing on prescription-only medication is not legal for a start. One of you wouldn't have had a proper consultation with whoever is supplying to the person purchasing it, which leaves them open to risk - their medical history won't have been checked by the prescriber. They are also unsupported by the prescriber and therefore unable to get any support with side effects.

Given your height and weight @Catty123Ma you don't have a BMI over 30, which means you won't legally be able to get a prescription for Mounjaro, unless you have a weight related health condition or you are one of the specific list of ethnicities where obese is classified as starting at BMI 27.

Catty123Ma · 06/05/2025 11:59

Thanks for the tips guys. Just trying to see how to make it work for myself. All points taken on board.

I have many friends that are using weight loss injections that are slimmer than I am with no underlying conditions I am aware of.. I’m curious as to how they are doing this. They haven’t spoke about any problems and I understand they have regular consultations.

OP posts:
WeAllHaveWings · 06/05/2025 12:01

Just echoing what @SilenceInside said.

This is a serious prescription only medication. You need to be very careful of following some of the "advice" given on these forums.

You need to check you are eligible for the medication first.
No prescriber will support you micro dosing as it is off license.
Do not share prescription only medication.

How are your friends getting it? No idea, they are your friends, ask them?

They are either getting from an unsafe source, have medical reasons, or lied.

Catty123Ma · 06/05/2025 12:02

Thank you, just looking for a safe space to ask questions.

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 06/05/2025 12:02

@Catty123Ma who are they having consultations with and how? Just online would mean they could be lying about their height and weight to their provider. Or they're simply not being honest with you about what they are using and where they've got it from.

I amazed that you have many friends who are using WLI, I don't know a single person who is doing so irl apart from me.

Catty123Ma · 06/05/2025 12:08

Friends might be a strong word: a handful of friends but many people I know/interact with. Perhaps maybe it’s my demographic on why I’m aware of so many .. mid 30’s, children (struggling to lose weight postpartum), have sufficient disposable income to support them.

just here asking questions, not to be judged :)

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 06/05/2025 12:11

I don't think any of my comments have veered into judgement.

Apart from being older, I am no different to you in terms of the demographic points you mention really. Perhaps being a decade younger means your friends and acquaintances are more likely to mention the use of WLI.

Catty123Ma · 06/05/2025 12:16

Yes, maybe they are more open about it. Feeling good after babies and weight loss is an often a topic of conversation.

OP posts:
SantasLargerHelper · 06/05/2025 14:25

I imagine a lot of people who are using it are keeping it quiet due to fear of being judged tbh. Feel free to pm me @Catty123Ma

Catty123Ma · 06/05/2025 14:36

Thanks so much @SantasLargerHelpersuper appreciate the offer 🙌🏻

WeAllHaveWings · 06/05/2025 16:02

@Catty123Ma this is a safe place. Unfortunately being a safe place means you might get answers that tell you something you want to do is illegal (for very good reasons) or unsafe.

Be very careful where you get your advice from. Wishing you well.

InfoSecInTheCity · 06/05/2025 16:26

I love Mounjaro, it has been a literal lifesaver for me as I was prescribed it for Diabetes and it’s enabled me to lose weight and regulate my sugar levels to the point where my diabetes has gone into remission. It is wonderful at fulfilling its purpose.

BUT……

It is a prescription, controlled medication and it does have side effects.

If you are obese and have been for a while then you are at higher risk of stroke, heart disease, organ damage, circulation issues as a result of your weight, as such the risk of taking these medications is considered to be acceptable because on balance if they can get you to a healthier weight then you should end up in a better position health wise.

If you are not obese, if you have no weight related conditions, then you are adding the risk of WLIs without the associated balance of a reduction in weight related risks, so you are just adding risk.

Ultimately no one will be able to stop you from making that decision, you won’t be able to get legitimately prescribed but it’s possible to lie and falsify your stats and by doing that you will probably be able to find a supplier. There are also plenty of people around who will happily sell it ‘black market’, personally I would caution steering very far away from those people because you will have no way of knowing what you’re injecting, lots of people are selling insulin and calling it Mounjaro.

You have to make your own risk assessment and base your decision on what consequences you are willing to accept.

10 kg to lose does not make one obese usually, so are you sure you’re even eligible for it? Your BMI needs to be 30+ which is a lot more than ten extra kilos…

Febnewbie · 07/05/2025 18:38

I wish losing weight too fast was my problem!

I have gone up a dose every month and am on an average loss of 1.3lb a week with absolutely nothing lost this month on 7.5

I wouldn't assume micro dosing is necessary
