Urgh. Just went to take my Mounjaro and discovered that last week for some reason I didn’t take the needle off then pen and just out the lid back on it!

I have to bin it, right?

The path labs play a critical role in nearly every diagnosis in hospitals and modern medicine would not be able to operate without them.

That said I would respectfully say as your role is not involved in patient facing safety it would be worth reconsidering using your NHS registration to add weight to an opinion outside your area of expertise as it could give the wrong impression about your professional scope.

🤣🤣 I do work with syringes so yes I do have experience in my role and especially in a clinical environment, we work with safe practices to minimise bacteria and regularly in sterile enclosed rooms too, so i probably have more "weight" than a doctor or nurse to answer this. The point being bacteria risk is not as high as everyone thinks, but in this situation like I previously said instructions say to remove the needle and bin it and for OP to ask provider, so how about you get off my back for being triggered because I'm a registered health professional.
But thanks for your judgemental non health worker opinion.

I have never removed the needle until I next shoot up. Why on earth would you bin it because of this? Also why are people keeping it in the fridge once it's open?/

Why would you do this intentionally? Absolutely gross 🤮

Keeping in the fridge is not necessary but better than not doing so.

This thread is pointless because you’ve already decided what you are going to do anyway!

I mean I posted because I wasn’t sure. I still haven’t used my new pen, so I haven’t fully decided anything. I was due to inject last night, if I was sure what was going to do I would have done it by now.

Nobody who has suggested it’s fine to use has provided a balanced reasoning as to why I should ignore the risk though.

Most of us haven't been in this situation and I'm sure prescribers wouldn't know as they wouldn't have tested it, so it's all a risk, so best do what keeps you safe and bin it.

Not judging at all. I have the upmost respect for all NHS professionals with several people in my own family in different areas.

I am just saying we should all be transparent about any expertise.

Your scope is now clear and hopefully that helps posters with their own decisions. Thank you.

Well i never knew that 😀 I'm obsessed keeping mine in the salad drawer 🤣

That’s where mine is kept when it’s delivered, 🤣 when I come to use it, it’s then kept upstairs beside my bed 🤣 so I don’t forget to use it x

Quick question. When is MJ classed as being opened? Is it when you remove the cap to inspect the contents upon receipt or from the 1st time a needle is attached?

SilenceInside · 24/09/2025 15:26

@IronMaiden86 from the first time a needle is attached. That’s the first time that the red seal at the end of the pen has been pierced. Taking the plastic pen cap off is fine.

Thank you. I was in a right panic as I’ve got 1 jab left at 2.5mg this coming Monday and ordered my 5mg pen which arrived today in the mail. I checked it over as I wanted to make sure it hadn’t been frozen or damaged etc and then realised I wouldn’t be using it for another week and half so didn’t want to waste nearly £200 🫣😊
