Lighthearted but wow I feel shocking. I assumed I was post menopause (48) due to infertility, low egg count and needing IVF. Clearly not 😁

Much as I love mj and I'm losing weight nicely (17 lbs) , this side effect has thrown me. Haven't had one since before pregnant with my youngest who's nearly 10 and I'm out of touch with erm products.

Grabbed tampons and towels yesterday but I feel grim and dirty down there - so what's in as it were for dealing with them. Are pants now the go to?

Anyone else in my situation where you are facing this delightful side effect?

I'm so glad you're losing weight, however this symptom needs more attention. It's can be potentially serious to have a bleed after all this time. Please make an urgent appointment with your GP for investigations to discover exactly why this has happened. Best wishes.

You need to get this checked out.

Apologies for the unintended drip feed but I turned my periods off intentionally with progesterone so that aspect is ok.

I'll get an appointment at GP next week.

People are questioning why your having a bleed op, if your periods are switched off you shouldn't be bleeding injections or not. Unless your off your progesterone?

MJ has been reported to affect the absorption of the contraceptive pill, so not wild to consider it has done the same if you are on medication still.

I have the implant, and didn't have periods but since mounjaro I'm getting a very light one every month which is annoying.. started mounjaro in August and new implant October and that's when they started back.. so annoying..

To answer your question, period pants are great BUT on the first few days you either need to change them once or twice or combine them with a tampon. Reusable pads are also great- very absorbent so you don't have to change them often at all (I have ones from Cheeky Wipes).

Incognitoburrito88 · 03/05/2025 08:09

I have period pants. Like the poster above I combine with a tampon on the first couple of days - I’m peri menopause so mine are very heavy. Period pants are expensive but I got some from M&S which are super comfy and didn’t break the bank. Modibodi are a good brand too.

If you take progesterone orally, that is why you have a period now. Mounjaro affects progesterone absorption. The BMS have just published guidance on this.

links to recent guidelines, if taking orally you may need to up progesterone dose or switch to non-oral. Share with your gp as they might not be aware of them yet, mine wasn’t.

I am on oral hrt and not had a period for 2 years, did first mounjaro jab on Wednesday then period arrived Thursday. I too have read about mj affecting absorption of hrt so off to GP (if I can get an appointment!) on Tuesday🤞

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 03/05/2025 08:59

A friend who is on mounjaro, and who is not on any hrt or contraceptive pill, has had this effect too. Restarted periods after three years with nothing. Gp advised it is due to weight loss.

When you lose fat, lipolysis breakdown of lipids releases the oestrogen stored in fat so this then enters the bloodstream to affect the cycle. It's very common to see messages on forums of women suddenly having periods or heavier than expected and it then often settles down. It also affects absorption of contraception as many have stated.
I love m&s period pants but even the heavy absorbancy can't handle my heaviest 2 days so I use a towel on these days with them especially if at work or out and about, then the pants for that last 2 days.
