Just wondering how the ladies with Pcos are finding the injections? I injected shot 4 on Saturday, and whilst I am dropping a few lbs it is so slow!!!

are you all avoiding carbs? I have done fast 800 in the past and results were much quicker.

I’m finding them great. The pain I used to have every month has all but gone and I’ve lost 5st 9lb since the beginning of last June. Average of 1.64lb a week so a healthy loss and I haven’t cut out anything. Just eating a lot less and don’t crave sweet things anymore. Slow and steady builds up over time 😁

Obese · 29/04/2025 15:39

Slow and steady is sustainable and much better for you. You might have lost faster on the fast800 but it obviously wasn't sustainable. These injections aren't meant to be a quick fix, they're a tool to help you make healthy changes that you can maintain for the rest of your life.

Mounjaro has improved my life so much. I also have pcos and I lose an average of 3lbs a week. I still eat plenty of carbs. My sugar cravings are pretty much under control, I don't have that 3pm crash any more, I'm not exhausted all the time.

Whilst PCOS can’t be cured, I certainly feel like it’s pretty much eradicated the symptoms for me.

Started at 16st 2.7lbs in October and I am now 10st 5lbs, so I’ve lost 5st 11.3lbs. No side effects apart from feeling cold.

My periods are back (hadn’t had one for nearly 10yrs), my mood is completely stable, no more spots, no more hair.

I could never have done this without MJ. I’m finally free and will happily take it for life if needs be.

You may find that things move along the higher up the dose you go. It’s different for everyone.

I have PCOS and can't wait to start injections when finances permit later this year. Can I ask - did you dyou find that you stayed at lower doses or did you have to keep going up?

QuartzIlikeit · 29/04/2025 16:31

I have pcos & have lost 4 1/2 stone in the past 12 months. Have another 3 to go. It's harder now than it was to start with & I'm not always on a calorie controlled diet but it's working for me.

I envisage being on at least a maintenance dose for life.

I have stayed on a lower dose throughout. The vast majority was 5mg but now on 7.5mg and don’t intend to go any higher.

yeah, I'd heard that you can because these drugs were basically invented for women like us and so they work best for us. Fingers crossed - I'm desperate to try. 1lb a week is an astonishing amount of weight. I'd be over the moon at that. I'd be happy, frankly, with 2lb a MONTH.

Time4changeagain · 29/04/2025 16:49

@MattCauthon
My average was a lot higher to begin with but the last few months have really slowed down. I do have to say that I have very limited mobility so unfortunately can’t exercise. I’m sure the losses would have been better if I was more mobile. I think you will be surprised regarding the financial side to it, Yes they seem expensive but I spend so much less on the weekly shop, takeaways, snacks from shop etc. I’d say I’m probably saving money each month!
Good luck on your journey, I’m sure you’ll do great 😁

happygertie · 29/04/2025 21:50

I have been on mounjaro since the end of August last year and as of this week I have lost 4st 4lbs so slow compared to many others on here, it has been steady and I am eating well. I don’t have huge suppression and wonder if that is down to my PCOS as my appetite was wild for last 20 odd years. Since losing the weight my period are now regular, my mood more balanced, my skin is clearer and I’m just starting to see an improvement on my unwanted hair growth.

im telling myself that slow but steady wins the race.

MooBaggage · 29/04/2025 21:53

I've got PCOS and have been on MJ for 4 months - I'm losing just over 2lb a week at the moment and am very happy!

I've lost all cravings for sweet things and have a reduced appetite for carbs. I'm eating mainly protein, veg and fruit (in a morning smoothie with dates and flaxseed!).

I've never eaten this healthily and been happy about it - it's bizarre..!

mumalummum · 29/04/2025 22:05

I have PCOS - diagnosed at 20 - I have acne still at 48 years old and facial hair. Whilst MJ doesn’t seem to have impacted these (yet), I have lost 2 stone in the last 12 weeks - I started at 19.5 stone so at 5ft 4 was morbidly obese. MJ has given me hope that I can eventually get back to a healthy weight - I’d love to have a BMI of 27 and that is my goal .
I know PCOS will make the weight loss slower but PCOS has blighted my life so far (appearance, health, fertility) but I do now have hope

curious79 · 29/04/2025 22:13

I say this as someone with PCOS, but it is a syndrome entirely related to diet and lifestyle and - hard though it is - if you make drastic changes you can be rid of it (without injectables). Doctors will always say you can't, but then that's because people rarely make sustained and drastic change (plus doctors don't study nutrition at all!!!).

I have tried ozempic. Made me sick as a dog. As did mounjaro. So off both of them. To date, the single most effective weight loss thing I've ever done has been getting rid of all processed food, flours, sugar, alcohol, eating 3 meals a day with some protein in each (max 4 oz) and going hard on fruit and veg (e.g. 10 oz of green veg, + apple or berries with every meal), and drinking 3 litres of water a day .

Don't let ANYONE tell you that you cannot control or even fully reverse PCOS

i got pregnant again. I actually maintained the weight loss easily after coming off it but then had a traumatic period after having my baby and gained.

@curious79
Whilst I agree that some of the symptoms can be controlled/reversed by lifestyle and diet I don’t believe that all of them can. I was healthy, slim and had a good diet when I was younger but the only symptom I didn’t have was weight gain.
The injections make it a lot easier for sustained and drastic changes for most people, to date taking Mounjaro is the single most effective thing I’ve done to lose weight.

I don’t agree that diet and lifestyle can reverse PCOS - I was diagnosed at a healthy BMI aged 20 due to excessive facial hair and acne. Even when I have maintained a healthy weight my PCOS acne, facial hair and most importantly inability to ovulate remained. I needed fertility treatment to conceive and the consultant told me that I would not ovulate naturally and probably had never ovulated even though I menstruated .

its so frustrating. I have been bouncing around the same lb of loss all week. I have been really disciplined and am calorie and carb counting. No upf at all and only carbs have been vegetables. How does the increased dose work (am about to go up to 5mg) as I am managing to keep my intake down fine and seem to have good suppression already. Just v slow weight loss.

alsohappenedoverhere · 06/06/2025 15:28

Just updating a month or so on. I have just finished my second pen (including 5th dose) and am 2 stone down. Still have a long way to go and am very much in a calorie deficit so it’s not a miracle cure but am losing around 3lb a week on average. My inflammation is down, I am much less puffy.
