Mounjaro and Insulin

I’ve been taking Mounjaro for five weeks and was prescribed it for controlling my t2 diabetes which had gone haywire following a recent illness. I’m overweight so it was welcome for helping me shift a few pounds - so far I’ve lost 12lbs with another 7 to go. However, my glucose levels have plummeted to the point of me having several hypos at night. I spoke to the diabetic nurse today who has told me to stop taking insulin and see how I go. I’m scared! Had this happened to anyone else? Thanks

you need to speak to your prescriber.
afaik tirzepatide is often prescribed instead of insulin.
are all your practitioners aware you ate taking both?

I think you should speak to your consultant, lots of people coming into A and E with DKAs who are diabetic and on mounjaro

Thanks for your responses. I’ve been prescribed it on the NHS by my diabetes consultant who is fully aware of my meds. The diabetes nurse told me to stop taking insulin today. I am just curious if anyone else has been in this situation

What insulin dose are you taking at the moment?

goodytwoshoes123 · 28/04/2025 21:29

Before I started mounjaro I was taking 20 units on the long lasting insulin morning and night, then 10 units of rapid acting 3 times a day at meal times. I had to cut this down as the hypos started but stopped completely today and my levels have been around 6-7 all day

@goodytwoshoes123 little bit late to the party but I am diabetic on insulin and Mounjaro.

I used to take 14 levirmir (slow acting) morning and night and 10-15 novorapid at meal times (fast acting).

I learnt VERY quickly on MJ that my insulin needed reducing right down. At first I was having hypos that were impossible to treat because the MJ slows dijestion. No matter what I ate they wouldn't come up.

I now only take 12 levirmir in the morning and my sugars are usually below 6 all day.
MJ is fantadtic at controlling sugar levels.

Currently on 10mg.

Start weight was 17 stone on 20.01.25 a UK size 18. I am now 13 stone 3 and a UK size 12. 5ft 6 female.

I have to pay for my prescription as the NHS won't prescribe to me as I was not overweight enough ( BMI needs to be at least over 40) and also not T2D.

Its dissapointing as my sugars were so up and down witĥ insulin but are now pencil straight all day!

Hope you don’t mind me saying, @Jjff89 but that’s amazing. My daughter has T1 and it’s fucking hard work and I read that as well as not making insulin, people with type one don’t make grelin (a hormone that helps control hunger, if I remember right). Being under 6 all day is mad to me, but brilliant! Well done on your weight loss.

@JunklessTrunk diabetes is hard work I've been at it since I was 14 🤣.

I was truly awful as a teen but I did get better as I got older. I resented it when I was young.

My CGM from today...just took 12 levirmir this morning. Its mind blowing to me. I'll pull data from Xmas give me two ticks.
