Hello,

I am looking at ordering weight loss injections, and read that Mounjaro are more likely to result in quicker weight loss.

I am 54 and my BMI is in the obese range. I am desperate to lose weight, it as I don’t have diabetes my GP can’t prescribe anything except Orlistat, which I found to be useless. They did advise me to purchase the injections myself.

I can’t really afford it, but feel it’s a sensible way to try to kickstart my weight loss. It’s certainly got to be worth a go. I’m spending more money, than the treatment would be, on new clothes for work.

where is the best place to start? I’m getting bombarded with emails from Juniper which makes me a bit nervous. I’d like to try with as many discounted methods as possible.

Yep, check out Monj for a list which you can sort by price. There is also a full price list without discounts too which is useful for comparison.

WeAllHaveWings · 28/04/2025 17:42

Use the website already shared. They are all safe registered providers.

I personally avoid any that are subscription based or you need to try to get people to use your referral code for your next discount as it is just too much of a faff.

Sunshineandpool · 28/04/2025 22:26

I was prescribed Orlistat a few years ago and found it absolutely useless too.

I signed up with Juniper as I wanted support alongside the jabs. But if that's not for you there are lots of options.

You do need to keep in mind that people lose at very different rates, so planning it as a “kick start” may not be feasible. I didn’t lose very much at all on 2.5mg, was slow on 5mg and have found my sweet spot at 7.5mg - so that’s 3 pens before it really started to have an impact. I’ve been going since September and have lost 3 stone now, with another stone to go. It’s been an absolute game changer but certainly wasn’t a quick fix for me.

I know some people don’t experience this but I saw a reduction in my shopping bill which has meant it’s a fairly cost neutral thing for me. Stopped getting coffees, eating out less, stopped picking up treats as much. It’s also easy to shop around. I started with med express like many as the initial discount was good, switched to zava with another new customer code etc: I really like zava as they are no frills and efficient which is what I want. I will switch again though when my bmi gets to 30 as they dont do maintenance.

i also do the bonus dose which gets me 5 weeks not 4 per pen. Lots on how to do this if you are interested but its a personal choice.

i have a lot to lose and am 2 stone down after 3 pens (15 weeks). Another 3.5 stone to goal so I am definitely expecting to stay on until Christmas before I switch to maintaining. I agree with a pp that it doesn’t lend itself to a kick start though, many people don’t respond fully to the lower doses and you need to find your sweet spot. Some respond really well to 2.5, others need 15. You won’t know until you try.

I'm 6 weeks in and 10 pounds down, my only regret is not starting sooner!

As others above have said check out the monj website it lists all the registered suppliers and prices. Personally I'm with Asda as I liked being able to pick it up from an actual pharmacy for my first 2 pens until I got settled but I'll be switching next month and probably switching every month to take advantage of new customer offers etc but when I get to BMI 30 I'll choose a maintenance supplier.

I have struggled with nausea this week since going up a dose but I think on the whole I've gotten off lightly with side effects.

For the cost yes it is a fairly big commitment I'm expecting to be on it for at least a year to get to goal I've got 3-5stone to lose then hopefully a maintenance dose as long as I can afford it.

I also do the bonus dose so it lasts for 5 weeks which helps with the cost although this is against the instructions.

MaybeMrs · 29/04/2025 08:25

I’m on week 19 and have lost 4 stone. 2 more ish to go. I’ve dropped 2 dress sizes and I’m now comfy in a 14. Wish I’d have done this sooner!! You’ll find that the cost of the pens will pay for themselves as I do not buy half as many takeaways and my shopping bill has decreased significantly. My OH has also lost 2 stone just by not eating snacks and treats all the time because I no longer buy them haha.

use the discount website that was posted above. I’ve changed supplier every month and just gone with the cheapest.

gremlindog · 29/04/2025 08:30

I was worried I wouldn't be able to afford it too, but with using the "bonus dose" to make each one last five weeks, and by switching suppliers to get the best deal it's been more affordable than I thought. I'm also saving on food shopping, but spending on new clothes.

Not really looking for a quick fix, but anything would be better than how I feel at the moment.

What is the bonus dose?

OP posts:

@jp35 Each pen has 4 official doses with extra for priming. The majority of people use this extra as a 5th dose enabling us to get 5 weeks of medication from one pen.

Is this the same whichever company you order from?

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 29/04/2025 22:27

@jp35 yep, there is only one manufacturer of Mounjaro (Eli Lilly) so all the pharmacies in the UK that sell Mounjaro are selling the exact same branded injection pen from that manufacturer.

IHateMozzies · 29/04/2025 23:18

Check out monj.co.uk. You can swap around providers if you are looking for the best prices. I’ve used Superdrug, Medexpress and IQ Doctor. All good. If you would like a discount code for Medexpress, drop me a message.

jp35 · 30/04/2025 09:23

Gone ahead and placed an order. Does everyone start on the 2.5 dose?

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 30/04/2025 10:38

@jp35 yes, every new starter starts on the 2.5mg dose which you take for a minimum of 4 weeks.

There is a thread for people starting in May which you might like to join in with:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5325089-may-25-mounjaro-starters?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 30/04/2025 10:41

@jp35 yes. 2.5 is the starting dose used to get your body used to the medication. Everyone then titrates upwards in increments of 2.5mg until they find a dose that is working well for them (some manage to stay on 2.5 and lose consistently for months!)

Some may have effects from 2.5, some may have to wait until they move up. The big thing to remember is that we are all different and all respond differently!!
