Hi there. I received my package a few days ago. Haven't started it yet as I had a birthfay party to go to.( alcohol )

Can I ask how your body doesn't just go into starvation mode if you're eating so little?

Sorry if it's a dumb question.im so nervous about doing the first jab.

Thank you.

I don't starve myself, that's for sure. I use My Fitness Pal to ensure that I'm eating enough and having the right foods to nourish me. I try to keep around 1200 calories per day.

There's no such thing as 'starvation mode'. Also you should be eating enough to be in a calorie deficit, but also giving you enough nutrition.

Simple - I eat 1800 calories a day so I don’t starve myself at all. If you eat really low calories and just rely on appetite suppression, your body will eventually adapt to that and you risk damaging your metabolism.

Hi - it's not so much that you're eating so little you're starving yourself - for me (have been taking it since January), yes my portions are smaller now - I use a side plate for meals instead of a big plate and I get full much quicker than before. I'm probably eating half in volume of what I used to eat - but I'm eating protein and veg, very little or no carbs most of the time. That's not even a deliberate choice - it's just what my body wants to eat!

So a meal for me might be a chicken thigh on spinach (am obsessed with baby leaf spinach at the moment), with some broccoli, cherry toms and dollops of greek yoghurt. Or a couple of sausages on the same, etc.

Breakfast for me tends to be a fruit smoothie, with lots of frozen fruit, dates, flaxseed, greek yog and milk.

I've not eaten any 'naughty' things since starting - my cravings for sweets, chocolate and crisps has completely disappeared and I've reduced my alcohol intake dramatically.

So for me it's been about listening to what my body wants to eat - which pre-MJ was impossible because of the 'food noise' telling me to eat all the time! I've now got space to think about what I want to eat, without eating and drinking all the time.

I don't count calories, but know that I must have reduced my intake significantly just by cutting out crap and reducing portion sizes - and I never feel massively hungry. Am definitely not starving though - I've got lots of protein-y stuff in the fridge which keeps me full!

Depending on how you respond, the first couple of weeks can really suppress your appetite, logging your calories in an app is a good idea to make sure you are getting in at least 1200 calories a day (on average over a week - it might be easier towards the end of each week) during this time. It tends to get to a more comfortable level after those first couple of weeks after your body adjusts to the medication. Eat calorie dense healthy foods such as nuts to keep your calories up.

If you eat too few calories your body will respond by trying to protect itself and diverting its available resources to critical functions - this is where you might have problems with hair loss, muscle loss etc. So try to keep your calories up as much as you can.
