BMI under 30 no other issues

Crimea · 28/04/2025 07:46

Hi there,

I have a BMI of 29 and don’t have any (diagnosed) issues like high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Can anyone suggest a Mounjaro provider that will allow me to purchase? As far as I understand if your BMI is under 30 and you have no other issues some of them won’t allow you to order.

thank you

No because that would be against the clinical prescribing guidelines as you are not entitled to it.

DGonMJ · 28/04/2025 08:03

The only other qualifying condition is certain ethnicities. If you have Black, Middle East, Asian, South East Asian heritage then you are categorised as obese if your bmi is over 27. You can check via the NHS BMI calculator.

ThirstyAndTired · 28/04/2025 08:08

You don't qualify under a BMI of 30 and won't be able to get it. The people you hear about that have got mounjaro when under a BMI of 30 (or 27 with other conditions) have largely inflated their weight on the online forms so the providers think their BMI is higher than it is.

PaintDecisions · 28/04/2025 08:20

@ThirstyAndTired Which should no longer be possible as they have increased the checks made via video call, video recording etc of you putting yourself on the scales and showing your ID, height etc.

People like OP are what has led to the process bring cracked down on.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 28/04/2025 09:13

Your understanding is correct; based on what you have said you don’t meet the criteria to take the drug.

You can get a free BP check in many pharmacies and you can ask your GP to do bloods if you suspect that you may have high cholesterol.

I think you are being a bit unfair to the OP she hasn’t done anything wrong - she’s just asking if she might be able to get the drug. She hasn’t suggested doing anything underhand or dishonest just asked if anywhere would prescribe to her. It’s such an arbitrary cut off. My BMI briefly slipped over 30 after chugging along for months at 29.5 - I took the opportunity to order WLI at that time (all above board - with date stamped photos sent to my provider) and now 3.5 wks in my BMI is below 30 and I’m allowed to continue on the drug. I can understand why this feels very unfair to people who are just below the cut off.

I struggle with my weight but am just in the overweight category according to NHS BMI calculator, I tried a couple of mounjaro providers out of interest. I input my true details weight 10 stone 10 & height 5'3". They asked about certain health conditions and I ticked arthritis as I have this was accepted & directed to the check out! I was quite astonished. I can't remember the name of the provider but it wasn't one I'd heard of. I'll see if it's in my internet history. Another didn't accept me, I think I was offered shakes or some supplements by them.

I signed up with Juniper. They did take the money really early doors and did most of the assessment after I'd paid! (Promise to return money if not eligible.) I'm not sure if you don't qualify for mounjaro if they offer you something else?

BottleBlondeMachiavelli · 28/04/2025 09:53

It does seem a bit silly that if you gained a few more lbs, you’d qualify. I know the cutoff has to fall somewhere, but at a BMI of 29 there are OFC obvious health gains to be made by losing weight.

Ah thanks, I never followed through but I just presumed having an underlying health condition might have clinched it. I didn't realise they do assessments after paying, thought it was a bit easy! According to NHS my BMI is 26.6. My weight fluctuates quite a bit and the drugs I'm on can cause weight gain so I was thinking about nipping it in the bud as weight not good for my autoimmune condition.

SpiralSister · 28/04/2025 10:06

This drug is not for you, it’s for those of us who suffer from obesity.

If you are not obese, then the risk of you experiencing side effects (which can, in rare cases, be extremely serious) is considered to outweigh any benefits to you. If you are obese, the opposite is true.

I can see that it might be mildly irritating to be near the cut off point, but that cut off has to be somewhere.

Crimea · 28/04/2025 10:55

thanks for the replies.
exactly as @Incognitoburrito88 and @BottleBlondeMachiavelli say I do Find it a bit ridiculous as I could stuff my face for the next week or two and then qualify, only to continue taking it until I get my BMI down to a normal weight anyway. Of course people just under the threshold are going to want to access it, they shouldn’t be cracking down on it they should be allowing it as otherwise the only other option is obtaining it illegitimately and then who knows what you are buying.

That's not quite true as each time you have to reorder you have to tell them your weight and most ask for a picture, this is more heavily monitored for new customers. Maybe in future they will come up with some sort of microdose people can take but at the end of the day it's a medication to treat obesity. It's a prescription medication just like antibiotics or Insulin. If you aren't obese then you don't qualify.

CherryRipe1 · 28/04/2025 11:17

@Crimea I just found the one I 'qualified' with in principle @26.6 bmi but as @Sunshineandpool said it could be subject to a post payment assessment & rejected . It was Chequp and they had quite a list of underlying health conditions: pcos, psoriasis, stress incontinence, heart disease, history of failure/heart attack, obesity related asthma, intercranial hypertension, type 2 diabetes, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, obstructive sleep apnea, psoriasis, high bp, high cholesterol, chronic acid reflux or heartburn, osteoarthritis. I'm totally new to all this & just recounting my very limited experience.

ShaunaSadeki · 28/04/2025 11:31

Not sure about now but Numan used to accept “weight related depression” as a pre-existing condition of your BMI is over 27

No, the only other option is to accept that it is not a suitable drug for you.

I do think the media has a lot to answer for, telling people about ‘skinny jabs’ and inferring that you can inject once a week and magic happens. You still have to diet. You need willpower. You risk side effects which can make you very poorly.

If you are not obese, chances are that you won’t have to counter the food noise, insulin resistance and all the rest of it, and could simply operate in a calorie deficit which would be easier to stick to than it would be if you had obesity,

Obviously you could be in the unfortunate position of having tried everything and not lost weight, whilst still not qualifying for the drugs.
That’s unfortunate, but thems the rules, and they exist because of the risk to your health.

Lascivious · 28/04/2025 11:50

When I signed up with medexpress, they asked for photos etc.. after I'd paid. I think they don't like to scare people off, and once you've paid you think we'll I either send the photos etc.. or cancel. Both r a hassle!

I disagree with this. Plenty of people at BMI 29.5, 29, 28 and even some at BMIs in the healthy range, battle these things just as much as people with a BMI over 30. Food noise can plague you at any weight.

TeenLifeMum · 28/04/2025 15:58

I weigh massively differently in the evening so I sent accurate measurements but used evening rather than morning weight. I think people using wli when they need to lose a few lbs is ridiculous but at your level I can see why you’d make the decision to use them. People on here are weird about them but for those of us who have used them, they’ve massively changed our lives.

ShaunaSadeki · 28/04/2025 19:26

I wasn’t obese when I started MJ, but I have been in the past and would have been again if I hadn’t started it when I did. I experience food noise whatever size I am

Fair enough, that may be so. It still doesn’t make you eligible for the drugs if your BMI is under 30.

Gigi936 · 28/04/2025 19:43

I was accepted by Juniper with a BMI 28 and no health conditions. And I was completely honest on my assessment.
