Mounjaro and IBS

I have IBS that's food sensitivity related. I tell everyone I am gluten intolerant as it's easier to explain, but in reality a lot of high FODMAP foods trigger symptoms. Leeks are a nightmare! Raw onion is a no go.

As it's a sensitively I have always been able to eat small amounts of gluten/FODMAPs and not have too extreme a reaction, but since being on Mounjaro it's like I have been cured. I went through a phase of eating a bagel every day. I went wild and bought some Weetabix the other day and have had two Weetabix for breakfast for the last 3 days with no reaction. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suddenly eating gluten at every meal and I will stick to GF pasta/rice noodles, but it's so nice to be able to have a wider range of foods available. I always missed the lovely doughiness of bread.

Has anyone else found food sensitivity symptoms have improved on MJ?

It's so alien to me to read of other people experiencing gastro symptoms as a side effect, when for me, I am having the best time in that department for decades!

It has helped me too. I believe it is the anti inflammatory properties. Are you still on MJ? If you have come off, how have you found it since being back to normal?

Yes my IBS has all but gone. I had to be so careful with what I ate. Night's out ruined over stomach issues if something didn't agree etc. I've been on MJ a year and not had a single flare up. It's worth the money for me for this alone.

@CountingSleepySheep Yes, I'm still on it. I probably eat more of the foods I used to avoid, but I wouldn't say I eat 'normally' now. But still the most normal I have been for decades gastro wise. I think the anti-inflammatory properties help for sure, but I think it's also the slowing down of the gut that helps me the most.

@MadisonMarieParksValetta It really is a wonder drug isn't it? I was hoping for weight loss and reduced appetite, but the other stuff, like the improvement in peri symptoms that HRT didn't seem to address (brain fog, poor concentration, facial flushing) and the resolution of IBS makes it hard to think about coming off. The pricing increases sadly makes this more challenging now for some people. Luckily I haven't gone up to the high doses so it should hopefully be manageable for me

Yes, me! I have to be very careful about limiting fruit intake, citrus is a no-go, as are cruciferous veg (cabbage, Brussels etc.) And legumes (lentils, beans). I'm a veggie, so this isn't ideal, plus it means I basically cant eat the types of food I love.
MJ slows down gut transit, which has been brilliant for me. I've been feasting on grapes and watermelon 🍉, without any ill effects. I feel like I've won the lottery as I really love fruit!
I haven't tried brassica or legumes yet, but who knows 😊

Me too. Porridge and bread used to be triggers maybe 50% of the time. Eventually I went to see a specialist who diagnosed severe diverticular disease and a few benign polyps, but fortunately nothing more sinister than that.

About the same time as my “procedure” (which my specialist says often provides a temporary fix), I started MJ 2.5mg. I’m now on 5mg. IBS has completely gone !

I reported this to my specialist a fortnight ago at my final follow up. He seemed strangely unsurprised. His only other comment : “I bought shares in Eli Lilly!”

It's cured my IBS which presented as regular loose bowels and feeling sick when I needed a poo. Haven't had that once in months and I'm very grateful because I hated it and have suffered for the longest time.

However it's flipped the other way and I'm so constipated I'm going every 5/6 days! Which is far preferable and doesn't really bother me too much.

I've been taking Mounjaro for three months - not directly for weight loss - and my IBS symptoms have virtually disappeared. For me it is a life changer.

I had extremely severe IBS for 25 years. Had a prescription for 90 immodium capsules a month and often had to buy more to see me through. I started on mounjaro last October and it's been life-changing. I haven't filled my immodium prescription since I started. I get the occasional little episode but it's absolutely nothing in comparison. I've also lost 5 stone and now have a healthy BMI, although I have about another stone and a half to go. The price increase may force me to come off it though and I'm so scared. I really wish there was a way to get it on the NHS when it's having these sorts of effects. I definitely think it's the slowing down of my digestive system that makes the difference for me, but I guess maybe the anti-inflammatory effect too. I didn't know about that. I think my gut was so irritated previously that it just reacted constantly.
