Anyone not counting calories

Hi Everyone,

I’m 3 wks in and after 2 wks of holiday and just doing my best, this week I’ve counted calories and weighed every day. I can feel myself getting obsessed. I’m constantly thinking about what I’m going to eat and worrying about calories - it’s almost worse than the food noise.

I’m an experienced dieter - have previously lost weight doing weight watchers and fast800 so I know how to eat well but I hate the way dieting becomes my whole personality. Just wondering if it might be better for my mental health if I hid the scales and didn’t count cals for a couple of weeks just trusted my reduced appetite and loss of urge to emotional eat. Has anyone done this successfully?

No, I don’t country track and have lost 15kg in 22 weeks. I don’t have the head space for counting and tracking and it sends me into a bad headspace. I tried Zoe which a PP mentioned, before MJ, and piled on weight as not having an off button still leads to calorific overload with healthy foods. I’m also a big gym goer and lift heavy weights but that didn’t impact my weight and I tipped over to BMI 30 around Christmas 2024. MJ has been the only thing that’s allowed me to lose fat and finally see the muscles I’ve been building for years!

Good luck!

I count everything! I feel much more in control and if I had a weight gain on Jab day, I would be fine with it because I would know it's just one of those things and it wasn't anything I did.

If I did not keep track, I would assume it's because I had inadvertently overeaten. Plus I think it's useful to keep track of macros, mainly so I can brag to myself (because I'm well aware there is no one in my world that would give a damn about macros) that yesterday I managed to eat 171g of protein!

I've only been on it 7 weeks today though so perhaps I'll change my mind later on down the road but it's currently working well for me, I've lost 1stone12 in that 7 weeks (and I only weigh one a week on Jab day!)

I’ve just answered a very similar comment on Reddit 😁 I am an in between! I don’t count/record/track but am very aware of how much I consume in a day due to previous dieting efforts.

I cook 99.9% of what I eat myself and use loads of fast800 and Zoe recipes so do weigh most things and have an idea of how many calories I am eating. Must be working as I’ve lost over 100lbs!!
