Hi all, any mums/midwives on here who has used/using or know about the Mounjaro weight loss injection.
Im 7 weeks postpartum come this Saturday. Ive put on a weight during the pregnancy, that I just dont think I will be able to shift. I am watching what im eating but im not hard or strict on myself as some of us new mums know the first few weeks of newborns are hardd!
I wasn't happy with my body or my weight before getting pregnant and trying to loose weight is hard for me.
Im wondering if any new mums having started the mounjaro injection, how soon after giving birth? how its been for you? Have you lost much weight? (I know everyone is different)
or if there is any midwives on here what do you recommend, whats your opinion on this?
TIA

Im not a midwife or a new mum, my youngest is 8 years old... I doubt you’ll find a midwife who has any experience of post partum women using Mounjaro as Mounjaro is fairly new and it’s not recommended to use it if you’re breastfeeding.

The first consideration is whether or not you’d even qualify for a prescription. Assuming you’re not breastfeeding - is your BMI over 30? Or over 27 with a weight related health condition, or over 27 and being one of a list of ethnicities where obese is classified as starting at 27?

I think you’d have to consider if you could cope with any possible side effects whilst caring for your small baby and still recovering from pregnancy and birth. Are you aware of what the possible side effects can be?

@Newmumtobe25 Please cut your self some slack here, you’ve just had a baby be kind and gentle to yourself. Think about your weight loss options in 6,7,8 months time.

Enjoy your baby and your role as a new mum 💐

Honestly don’t worry about your weight and concentrate on you and baby. Ive just tried it and have awful side effects and wouldn’t be able to cope with a young baby.

Please don't worry about your weight so early on in post partum. The old saying 9 months to grow and 9 months to get back into shape (still waiting for that 8 years later), so please don't feel forced to get back into shape straight away.

Some people have really severe SE and you wouldn't be able to properly look after and enjoy your newborn. Allow yourself at least a few months and if you still feel like you want to try it and your BMI is 30+ then do. Although I don't think it's recommended for breastfeeding mothers so if your breastfeeding you probably want to wait a bit longer.
