Just Realised I've Been on Mounjaro for a Year

Started April 2024. 208 lbs ( 14st 8 lbs or 94.3kg).
Reached goal of 148 lbs ( 10st 5lbs 67kg) around October. Lost a further 5lbs so by Nov was 140lbs (10 st 63.5kg).
Thats a total of 68lbs lost (4st 8lbs. 30.8kg).
INSANE figures.
I'm a size 10/small, 5' 7".
I never went very high on the MJ, stayed in single figure doses. I am still on it and don't ever plan on coming off it.
I definitely have more money despite being on MJ as I spend WAY less on food, I mean way less. Also, I spend less on buying clothes. No more buying cheap shite to try and make myself feel better. Now I buy considered good quality clothing that will last. Capsule wardrobe I guess.
The biggest plus though is having so much mental free time. No more beating myself up, making plans to lose weight, worrying about my weight, having guilt about my weight, planning what to eat, feeling bad about what I ate...I mean the endless, endless cycle of an overeaters mental game. So exhausting.
And now I'm free.
Best decision I ever made.

Well done!

I’m still caught in the trap. Was the same starting weight as you, lost 3.5 stone by myself before WLD were available.

so now I still have 2 stone to lose (am shorter than you) but I no longer qualify for WLD as I am not overweight enough.

so I struggle on. Very jealous of those sailing past me!

JollyJunee · 23/04/2025 18:13

Ah, that’s tough.
But you are doing such a good job, that’s an amazing achievement on your own.
The first week I was on MJ I remember feeling quite angry, because all the years I tortured myself and tried so hard to be ‘good’ (ugh!), and suddenly it was easy. Because my brain had changed. I still nipped to the shop for a pint of milk, but that’s all I get now. I see the Starbars, and the crisps etc, but I now have the ability to say, no, I’m alright. Before it was an insatiable drive that you couldn’t avoid.
The fact you’ve done it is a credit to you.
You’ll get to that goal.

Bellyblueboy · 23/04/2025 19:32

Congratulations! Was dose are you maintaining at?

I hit target in the last couple of weeks. Was on 7.5 and am reducing now to 5mg.

I had a hart moment there when I thought MedExpress had cut me off. But I need to change to a prescriber who will support long term maintenance. I know I will put the weight back on if I stop. I still occasionally binge - but not like I used to.

JollyJunee · 23/04/2025 20:44

I’m still on 7.5mg.
i would be heart broken if i had to come off. I feel if I drop to 5mg I won’t have the same suppression?

Well it’s been 3 years losing and regaining the same stone so I have my doubts. I suppose at least I haven’t put the whole lot back on, but then if I did I’d qualify for WLD and get to goal much quicker.

Fatmumslim01 · 23/04/2025 21:17

@Boscoforever this gives me hope! I'm a very similar starting weight and goal weight to you although I'm only a month in and have lost 10 pounds but the thought I'd being at goal in a year would be a dream come true!

What dose are you on now? Are you titrating down or staying on same dose?

JollyJunee · 23/04/2025 21:21

Whatsgoingon don’t forget that it doesn’t work for everyone, and some people get quite bad side effects. And if you want to come off it you’d have to maintain maybe without the injections?
Fatmum I only ever went up to 7.5mg and have just stayed on that.

DuckyLuck · 23/04/2025 22:10

We’re twins OP! I started in May 2024 at a weight of 14st and I’m also 5’7”. I was buying big baggy clothes, was miserable and the heaviest I’d ever been.

almost a year later I’m at 9st 12ish and sticking with the programme. Thrilled with my new body (although I’m 55 so sagggggy!) and couldn’t be happier. I walk between 4 and 6k with the dogs every day and find it a breeze.

Don’t want to lose any more weight now.

Boscoforever · 24/04/2025 09:50

Neither do I Ducky, but its the most liberating feeling ever.
Just realised I replied on my phone as well, JollyJunee, confusingly I have 2 logins and I cant seem to even them out...

Can I ask, does Mounjaro do more than just suppress your appetite? I’ve just given up all forms of sugar for 8 weeks (including fruit etc) and I’ve been trying to intermittent fast most days. I’ve only really been eating eggs and sourdough toast or weetabix, a cup of bone broth and a home cooked meal in the evening and a cup of milk. I’ve actually gained weight! I don’t think I could realistically eat much less than I already am and have the energy to work/be a Mum etc as I have a chronic illness which makes exercising almost impossible. I’m considering Mounjaro but I feel I already eat a sensible amount and healthy food.

Are you logging your calories? If you're not eating a deficit, you won't lose - it's not about volume, it's about calories. You can eat a huge amount of really nice vegetables and good protein, and will feel fuller and still have had less calories than a less protein and carb dense dinner, for example.

Chilliinitiative · 24/04/2025 11:39

@TheBossOfMe Thanks that’s a good suggestion. I’ll start using Myfitnesspal.

TheBossOfMe · 24/04/2025 11:51

What kind of dinners are you having, @Chilliinitiative ?

just so you are aware, toast and weetabix and milk all contain 'sugar'.

Good point. Although when I talk about avoiding sugar, I tend to mean refined and added sugars, rather than fruit. Some fruit in the diet is important for balance, IMO. Helps keep me regular :)

ssd · 24/04/2025 12:32

Can you stay on it indefinitely though? That's what puts me off, im never sure of the answer.

SilenceInside · 24/04/2025 12:38

Yes you can stay on Mounjaro indefinitely. There’s no time limit on taking it. Good job too as it will take me a year plus just to get to a healthy weight, and then I’d like the option of seeing if I need to continue to take a maintenance dose.

ssd · 24/04/2025 21:24

Thanks, thats good to know.
