Any shorties with low starting weight? How were the side effects for you?

I’m 4ft 11 and weigh 10.5st so I just about qualify for Mounjaro.

for most of my adult life I’ve been able to maintain a healthy weight, albeit at the top end of the bmi, but gained during pregnancy with my second child and then put on a few more pounds during the the covid lockdowns. My weight has stayed consistent since.

I’d like to lose around 1.5st.
I’ve been trying to shift the weight for the last year but keep losing and regaining the same 5lbs!
The problem is that because of my height I need very few calories to maintain my weight. I maintain on around 1300 but I need to go down to around 1000 calories a day to lose. I really struggle to do this for more than 3 or 4 days a week as I feel so hungry.

I’ve just joined a gym but I’m thinking that mounjaro could help for a few months along side exercise. I don’t anticipate it would take much longer than this to lose the weight. I realise I’d also need to make some longer term adjustments to keep it off.

I’m just worried that being smaller the side effects might be greater? It’s holding me back at the moment so I’m interested to hear from others that are shorter or have a lower starting weight.
Thanks!

Hi I started in October at 13st 1lb 5ft 3" bmi 32.4, I've gone all the way up to 1mg and not had any side effects, other than feeling cold and tired, as I often don't eat upto my deficit of 1200. I usually manage 850-1100 a day depending on if I'm laying about at home or out or at work. I'm now 10st 12.5lbs bmi 27.0, I also have insulin resistance so it's harder for me to lose but mounjaro has been great for stabilising my blood sugars and letting me hit those low calories because it keeps me feeling fuller and suppresses my appetite.
Another point to bear in mind is when you are smaller, losses can be slower, because we dont have much leeway on the deficit, mine are average 1.1lb a week, so that few months might turn into 3-4 if you lose slowly. You need a deficit of 3500 a week to lose 1lb of fat so with a 300 deficit, it would take you 12 days to reach that.

Sorry that was 10mg dose I'm up to, soon to go upto 12.5mg in a week, and no side effects from mounjaro.

Hi
I'm was pretty much the same as you, although even shorter (4'10") and older (61)
I can only have between 800-1000cals a day to be able to lose that stubborn 1.5st, and that's what MJ has helped me to achieve. I could not have stuck to it without. My loss has been slow, and the last 8lbs is going to be even slower. But I could not have been consistent without it
I had two months of 2.5mg without any side effects (except for sleep which has been disrupted) and am about to start 5mg this week.
Once I'm at goal I'll go up to 1200cals a day which I know is disgustingly low but that's the joy of being a pixie 😂

@Mysticmaidenthat’s great progress! Slow & steady wins the race!

@lozza8256it’s really reassuring to hear you’ve had no side effects, that’s the one thing holding me back. I work in a public facing job so can’t afford to feel ill or be nipping off to the loo every 5 mins.
i don’t mind if the loss is slow. I’m lucky if I manage 0.5lb a fortnight at the minute and that’s when I’m trying really hard!!

I’m same height and similarly need a v low calorie count to loose which is hard to maintain without help. I have had to keep on a low dose, only ever got up to 5.0mg as symptoms were too much above that, but losses are steady at 1lb per week and I’ve lost 3 stone. Looking to loose another stone so started off weighing a good bit more than you.

FlatStanley50 · 21/04/2025 19:41

I’m 5’0 and started at 11 stone. I’m now 8 stone and can’t believe how easy it’s been. I normally really struggle to stick to 1000 cals a day as I’m starving. But it’s come off quite easily ( but slowly compared to taller people). No side effects other than a few days of upset tummy, and feeling tired and very cold on the couple of days after the injection. I’ve been on it since September and only went up as high as 7.5mg. For me it’s been a complete game changer.

It sounds as though you e had brilliant results. When you come to the end of your journey, do you think you will always need some sort of maintenance dose or do you think you are now used to eating very few calories?
I just wonder how easy it will feel to maintain the loss when we need so few calories?

Very hard to say! I’ve yo yo’d all my life due to not being able to stick to low calories. I’ve started strength training to try to help my
metabolism…anyway my last provider wouldn’t provide more than 5.0 mg once I hit 23 BMI so I went back down to that and found that I maintained on it, rather than lost, and the food noise was back a bit so I fear I may have to stay on it for life. But I’m going to try to come off, very slowly, and see what happens because it’s a big expense to keep up for a long time. So, fingers crossed.

insomniac1 · 21/04/2025 20:12

I’m 4 foot 11 and started at 11 stone 3 pounds. I’m down to 8 stone 9 pounds and I’ve been on it for nearly 6 months. So my weight loss has been v slow but I’m really happy with it being slow. I’m on 7.5mg now. My goal weight is 8 stone

my only concern is I just got back from a 5 day holiday and forgot to jab before I went. Omg I ate SOOO much and I’m so scared to weigh myself, although in reality I can’t have put on too much in 5 days?! But I am worried about how I will ever come off the mounjaro and not put it all back on….

Thanks I’m happy. I’ve started making some changes like FlatStanley50 with the strength training and trying to be more active (although that wasn’t really an issue for me it was food), but I’m just taking a we’ll see what happens approach with what I do long term wrt maintenance dose and whether I’ll need one, my focus at the moment is getting to my goal. The drug certainly helps you understand realistically what you need to be eating to loose versus maintain.

Fatmumslim01 · 22/04/2025 07:04

@IndieRocknRoll your starting weight is my goal weight 😱

I'm between 4.11 and 5 foot and my starting weight on mounjaro was 14.7 which was a BMI just touching 40 😞

However I'm a month into MJ, no side effects so far, just about to go up to 3.75mg and I've lost 9 pound! Goal weight is 11.6 for now but it really needs to be 9.6 but I'll get to 11.6 then review

BananaSpanner · 22/04/2025 07:08

I’m 5’3 and was around 11.5 stone when I started. I didn’t count calories when I was on MJ, just ate what I felt comfortable with which sometimes wasn’t very much at all. I’m now about 8st 8 and no longer on MJ. Came off in Jan and haven’t gained but I strictly stick to 1400 calories a day.
Side effects- nausea, very occasional vomiting (twice in the 6 months I was on it), dizziness -I think it affected by blood pressure. It worked wonders for me and I’m glad I did it but I was pleased to be off it and feel normal again. I never went higher than 7.5mg and mostly stuck at 5mg because the side effects were strong.
