Hi, I’ve just started on 2.5mg mj - my BMI is around 28/30, have struggled with weight gain since breast cancer and then hysterectomy. The first dose was fine, lost 3kgs in first week and felt great. I took the second dose of 2.5mg on Sunday and almost immediately had a reaction which I believe was a hypo. I was very anxious, couldn’t sleep, fast heart rate and peeing lots.
I Haven’t felt great all this week, jittery and lightheaded and horrible feeling of dread at times. My weight has stuck despite eating a calorie deficit. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I really don’t know if I should continue or not.

I have not had those symptoms, but I have seen other people post about it occasionally here. I think the usual suggestion is to take a glucose tablet when the symptoms start. Also, is your calorie deficit too low? Could you try eating small amounts more frequently?

You could also contact your prescriber for advice on this, and see what they suggest.

I had a few episodes of v low blood sugar in my first 6 weeks of mj. My symptoms were light headedness, slurred speech, cold and shivery, and on one occasion, a feeling that I was about to loose consciousness (and I think I would have if not for downing a bottle of lucosade v v quickly). Quite scary. Lucosade and/or dextrose sweets were v helpful moving forward.

On advice from Mumsnet I bought a blood sugar monitor and discovered my episodes most definitely were low blood sugar. Actually dangerously low a couple of times.

I'm fine now and my sugar has been fine since about 6 weeks in. Not sure why mj only impacted me like this for the first few weeks. But I guess our bodies r all different and react differently to different doses etc..

What you describe doesn't sound like blood sugar issues to me. I think you'd b wise to speak with a doctor.

If you do suspect it's blood sugar related, get yourself a blood sugar monitor so you can test your prediction. Sounds more like tachycardia and anxiety to me though(?) but I am not a doctor and my knowledge of blood sugar issues is v limited :) the gp or your prescriber will b best placed to help.

Thank you for your help. That’s what I was thinking, it’s reassuring to hear that others have had a similar reaction. My sister is diabetic and said the same thing. I probably wasn’t eating enough and it hit me like a ton of bricks! Have a glucose monitor for the next dose and am going to take 1.25 not 2.5.

Yes mounjaro lowers blood sugar and pressure. I've definitely had hypoglycaemia on mounjaro before quite a few times and have had to eat little and often to keep my blood sugars stable. I used to be high BP 145/92 starting off then within weeks of starting 107/72. Did your prescriber know about your medical history?
If your bmi was 28 then you really shouldnt have been prescribed it without an accompanying obesity comorbidity.
I'd speak to your prescriber about your symptoms. Make sure you drink plenty of water and take glucose tablets or other sugar source when you feel those symptoms. Electrolytes help too.
