How did you get your drugs? What do I have to do

That's it really. I see these threads and think, are you all pre diabetic and the NHS have prescribed the jabs or what?
Have you gone private and if so, are you still medically ill and that's why you need it.

I want to lose weight and I'm a lazy pig and like eating too much of the wrong food so want a helping hand.
How do I go about getting these drugs? Is it easy? I'm not pre diabetic. No health issues so won't qualify on NHS.
Just after advice pls.

Ok. So, no, we are not all pre-diabetic and nearly all of us will be getting a private prescription not an NHS one. We are not "medically ill" whatever that means, just obese.

You can get a private prescription for weight loss injections if you are obese (BMI greater than 30). You apply online to a regulated pharmacy, complete their medical questionnaire, upload photos/id/do a video consult and pay, and then they will decide if it's appropriate for you. If it is, then they will send it out to you.

So, the first question for you, is what is your BMI?

I have no idea of my BMI but I reckon I need to lose 1.5 to 2 stone.
My question about pre diabetes is that news reels keep saying that NHS r short of the drugs because people r getting them private when not medically ill.
I don't know how easy it is to do this privately. I mean, I've used private health care a few times but this is different isn't it. It's not Bupa.

I'm just wary of online pharmacies. How do you know if it's legitimate and safe.

Go to monj.co.uk and pick a supplier. They're all registered and regulated on there. Follow their application process and see if you get approved. Be honest. You'll need to give your weight, height, photo and medical history. They'll let your dr know.

"My question about pre diabetes is that news reels keep saying that NHS are short of the drugs because people are getting them private when not medically ill."

This is nonsense. There are no shortages of supplies of Mounjaro or Wegovy at the moment on the NHS. The "news reels" are either sensationalising or just inaccurate. The NHS has made a business decision not to offer the injections to everyone who asks for them, due to capacity and cost. Not to do with supply.

The online pharmacies include well known names like Boots, Superdrug, Asda, Morrisons, Ashcroft, Lloyds, Pharmacy2U etc etc. You use one that is registered with the GPhC and so are regulated and inspected. There is a comparison list here

https://monj.co.uk/mounjaro-price-comparison-by-monj/

All the pharmacies listed are registered and regulated.

Use an online calculator to work out your BMI from your height and weight, as this all might be pointless if you are not obese.

Thanku.

Apologies if my OP sounded goady. Just read it back.

If you are talking about the injectable medication there aren’t that many.

Ozempic and Wegovy are the same drug - semaglutide. Ozempic is prescribed for diabetes and that was the one that there was a lot of publicity about shortages a few years ago. Wegovy is the same drug but prescribed in higher doses for obesity.

Mounjaro is a similar drug - tirzepatide - and works in two ways compared to semaglutide and is supposed to be better.

When people are getting them “privately” they are mainly getting them from online pharmacies. If you are worried about using one you don’t know the stick to Boots or Asda or Superdrug or another name you recognise.

You need to be classsed as obese so with a BMI of 30 or over and you will need to fill in a consultation and submit photographs.

It's ok. I was obese when I started Mounjaro. You do need to see if your bmi qualifies. The starting point is 27 with weight related conditions or 30 without. Some suppliers stop prescribing when you reach a certain bmi, others don't but you can switch to maintain. Again there are different cut offs for this. I started with Ashcroft who were brilliant but my bmi is now close to 27 so I've switched to Oushk as they offer long term maintenance that I'll want once I'm down to a healthy bmi (about 9 stone for mid range bmi for me).
