Mounjaro for other conditions

Is anyone using Mounjaro, not just for weight loss, but to help with inflammatory conditions and/or PCOS?

I would be keen to share experiences.

Me, I have chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, general inflammation everywhere, a few other linked conditions and I have adhd and am perimenopausal. I’m doing this not to just lose weight but to try and get a grip on everything else too before it all spirals out of control.
I took my first MJ injection an hour ago. I feel a little strange, spaced out maybe, and I’ve just unpacked the weekly shop, I tried nibbling on things as I was putting it away and I strangely have little appetite for any of it, usually idve snacked constantly on a little of everything, definitely not my imagination

SoYouSee · 14/04/2025 18:05

I have ME/CFS, and I must say Mounjara hasn’t had any effect on my symptoms. Has made it (mostly) easier to fall asleep though.

Slinky1460 · 14/04/2025 18:07

Tinkpod - that's interesting. I have HS which I take anti-inflammatory biologics for, PCOS which has prevented me losing weight since I was very young, and also take a mood stabiliser that causes weight gain.

I lost 6.5lbs in my first week and have just taken my wk2 jab. I'm not eating very much at all as I just don't have the appetite for it but did force down some fruit salad for lunch and am about to have chicken and grains for dinner.

Has a medical professional told you that the drug itself can help with your conditions, or the fact you're losing weight will ease the symptoms?

SoYouSee - I know what you mean. I could sleep on a washing line!

I originally started Mounjaro for weight loss. I also have PCOS & found I no longer get crippling pain every month, I don’t get bloated after every meal & haven’t had any Oedema in my feet/ankles since starting the injections either. I have been taking a mood stabiliser for years that had presumably contributed to a lot of my weight gain.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 14/04/2025 18:47

I have taken MJ for weight loss but as a very welcome additional benefit my psoriasis has all but disappeared. I haven’t had a flare-up since I’ve been on it. Hopefully the drug’s action on inflammation will help your HS.

Tinkpod · 14/04/2025 19:19

@Slinky1460i also have pcos and endometriosis, I didn’t bother going to my doctor as they have been nothing but useless and counterproductive with my illnesses over the years, I just saw so many people on social media with the same conditions all say it had helped to some degree, if it does help I will go to my go and say it has helped and I would like it on prescription.
I also have lipedema in my legs so I’m hoping it will help with that too!
6.5lb is a good first week result!

HansHolbein · 14/04/2025 20:44

I have PCOS and it’s pretty much reversed all my symptoms. I’ve had a period for 5 months in a row now.

Started in October 16st 2.7lbs and now I am 10st 9lbs.

Tinkpod · 15/04/2025 03:01

@HansHolbeinthats fantastic!

Seaitoverthere · 15/04/2025 08:12

Part of the reason for taking it was to see if it gives any anti inflammatory benefit that might help my inflammatory arthritis. Unfortunately it hasn’t helped that at all.

Slinky1460 · 22/04/2025 16:57

I've weighed myself after week 2 and was really disappointed with a 0.6kg loss despite significantly reducing my food intake and focusing on high protein meals. However, I haven't been to the loo in 5 days so that might be part of it. No matter what I take, nothing is shifting things.

On other fronts, I am definitely not suffering from any HS flare-ups but it's too early to say if the drug is helping, it could just be I'm in a normal remission.

Took the step to join the gym today which is a big step for me. I'm scared of the weight-lifting mob in the corner but have booked twice-weekly yoga sessions and will sneak in on a quiet day and do some weight training.

I started Mounjaro as I heard it was beneficial for blood pressure / cholesterol. I was already losing weight eating low carb but my blood pressure remained high and my cholesterol got worse. After just a couple of weeks on MJ, both BP and cholesterol at normal levels. The weight loss is slightly faster than when I was low carbing (now focussing on healthy eating rather than cutting out carbs) but not significantly so. I’m hoping to be on it long term at a lower dose but let’s see.

SoYouSee · 22/04/2025 17:54

@Madickenxx I also have very high cholesterol (but normal blood pressure).

I will be interested to see when I have my cholesterol tested in a few months, whether there is any improvement.

Delphigirl · 22/04/2025 17:55

I’m very interested in the reported protective effects of MJ on dementia risk, coming as I do from a long line of women with Alzheimer’s. Taking it for weight loss but will consider staying on a low maintenance dose if the science confirms that.

Whyisitsobloodycold · 22/04/2025 18:07

I noticed fairly quickly on starting that minor inflammation (?) in the likes of my toes & hands at night pretty much disappeared. I had minor aches, an annoyance rather than full blown pain.
Now I’m about to finish my last week and my final dose is much, much lower than what I’d increased up to, I can notice the aches are back at nighttime. Toes, hands, achey; wrist joints more clicky.

Also in the first week I felt serenely much calmer, like all the noise in my mind was quietened. Slept better. Felt like I had more energy.

increased doses though made me feel fatigued/wiped out- I had to actually split the last pen into smaller doses.

I’d love to stay on a low dose tbh, but I would no longer be prescribed at my current weight, and I took a break in ordering. So I’m at the harder point now, maintenance/losing a bit more through strict cc and exercise

Slinky1460 · 23/04/2025 15:56

I've just ordered my second pen and upped the doze to 5mg but really hoping I can stay on it for a while, let's see.
Due to other meds I'm taking, I need to have regular blood tests and next week will be the first time after starting Mounjaro. I'm keen to see if there are any major differences, good or bad.

Been to the loo now btw and lost an extra 0.7kg as a result.😂

Yes I take it for IIH (Idiopathic intracranial hypertension) as weight loss can help it. I’m hoping it does but I can’t put the weight back on again as my vision will be at risk. I also have PCOS too and losing weight naturally is a nightmare.

WitchesofPainswick · 23/04/2025 16:17

I think it has rowed back my peri symptoms somewhat. But no impact on ME/CFS.

Heparama · 23/04/2025 16:24

It’s had a huge impact on my PMDD and other hormonal issue I have. Completely life changing, hoping to stay on it for as long as possible!

Slinky1460 · 23/04/2025 16:27

Ever since I was a baby, I have had huge growth spurts and when I was 9 months old, mum said she could hardly lift me. When I was about 8, an interested paediatrician finally listened to mum, did some tests and discovered I had a hormonal condition that has never left me and as a result, I find it impossible to lose weight unless I eat less than 500 calories a day which is never a long-term solution. I would be delighted if the Mounjaro not only helps me lose and keep the weight off, but also helps the hormonal problems somewhere along the way.

Started the first dose at the weekend take my second one at the weekend. Honestly, no it hasn’t the headaches are still there and neck pain too, my neurologist supported my decision though. How long have you been diagnosed for?

bridgetreilly · 23/04/2025 19:24

Hoping it will help with my blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and NAFLD. If it also helps with menopause and depression, that would be a huge bonus!

I was diagnosed April 23. I have been on Mounjaro since 8th October and gave managed to lose just over 4st so far

Slinky1460 · 20/05/2025 17:48

Just wondering how everyone is getting on? I've had zero weight loss for 2 weeks and am starting to think one of my other conditions is preventing me from losing. In a couple of months, I'm going into hospital for major surgery, followed by reconstructive surgery a week later. I'll need to stop taking it for about 2 months I believe while I heal. Just hoping the weight I have lost doesn't go back on.😔
