I think I want to take the plunge with mountjaro, but a part of me still has a bit of fear with the press coverage of the dangers. So I suppose I’m seeking reassurance.
Also, I’ve seen referrals for Medexpress, but I’m not sure if that’s the best place to go - is picking up in person ‘better’? Is it likely that after 4 weeks of 2.5 that my dose will be increased?
I have a lots of questions 🙈

I get mine delivered but know that both my local pharmacies offer a service where you can get it. They also do BP and weight checks at the same time. They are a bit dearer than online.

Updating to say, I’ve ordered
today and it’s been confirmed. Joined the April starters thread but feel very far behind.

shrinkingthiswinter · 17/04/2025 21:50

Good move @wlinewbie0425 ! I hope it goes very smoothly for you.

There are loads of people on that April thread and it’s very active. Evidently way more people are starting now than 6 months ago. If that thread feels a bit much for you, why not start a ‘late April/early May starters’ thread? Then you should catch a cohort who are closer to your start date.

I did my reading, read all your posts (thanks so much) and have decided to go for it. I’ve gone to Medexpress but on the moni.co.uk page it said it would be £113 but £149 for me. Seems it’s better to use my blue light than £40 off referral.

Hi @Undecided2025 great to hear you’ve ordered now too. I was approved within hours by medexpress last week but then had an email saying there was a delay due to demand. It’s now showing as due at the end of this week, so 8 days after ordering. I know it’s been a bank holiday weekend but wondering if this is common and need to factor in each month for making sure the orders arrive on time.

SilenceInside · 20/04/2025 21:24

@Undecided2025 what does the blue light discount take off, if it’s more than the £40 new customer referral? That’s a great discount in that case.

It’s 30%, so takes it down from £150 plus postage to £109, but only for your first order x

I have another question. Do you all stick with one company or switch month to month for the best deal?

I switched three times, then stuck with Medino.

Have a read through of some of the long running support threads in the weight loss topic, they’ll show you the successes and the battles. Mounjaro has been a miracle for me, but it’s not an instant fix. You still need to think about what you eat, if you’re having high suppression it’s important that you make yourself have enough calories that you aren’t suffering from headaches, tiredness and nausea as a result of not getting enough nutrients. If you eat junk then your guts will let you know about it because the slowed down digestion won’t handle grease and salt well. Some weeks you’ll lose but others you’ll stay the same or gain, just like any other weight loss plan. You’ll be proud of your successes some weeks, others you’ll feel frustrated that it’s not coming off fast enough or you’re not seeing it in the mirror.

I wholeheartedly recommend Mounjaro, but I also want you to go into this with a realistic view of it. 1-2 lbs a week loss is good, that means if you’ve got several stones to lose then you’re going to be doing it for a while. The MJ makes it easier to stick to a diet long term and to be consistent, but it won’t stop you sometimes eating something you wish you hadn’t, slacking off on exercise or forgetting to drink your recommended amount of water. You have to still hold yourself accountable and put the work in and sometimes you’ll slip a bit.

I’m coming up on 4 and a half stone lost now since last August, gone from obese to healthy BMI, have put my T2 diabetes into remission and feel fantastic. I also have lots of flabby loose skin, am working hard to get some decent muscle tone (I’m pretty sure I don’t have stomach muscles, so not sure what’s holding me up but whatever it is it cannot do a sit up to save my life) and I still really struggle to see anything except a fat girl when I look in the mirror.

Hi @Undecided2025 good luck as you start your WL journey! I’ve used MedExpress exclusively and found them to be really reliable - I started in 2.5mg then stayed on 5mg until the end of March when I moved up to 7.5mg. They are happy for customers to remain on lower doses if it is working for them. I’ve been on MJ since November and I’ve lost 44lbs so far. I’m about 17lbs off my target weight. Minimal side effects for me - massive benefits.

Things to consider/top tips I’ve found useful before starting:

-MJ works best if you approach with a whole lifestyle overhaul. You need to consider movement as well as nutrition to get the best results.
-MJ does cause muscle loss if you are not careful so think about how to incorporate weight-bearing exercise or training into your routine
-Get a set of smart scales (mine are Renpho and cost £25 from Amazon) so you can track your body stats
-Download the ‘Shotsy’ app to track your injections and record your results (it is free)
-Download the ‘Methreesixty’ body scan app as some weeks your WL will be slow but you may have lost inches and it keeps you motivated
-Join a specific month starter thread on MN it helps to chat to other people at the same point in the journey as you plus it gives you accountability anonymously.
-use My Fitness Pal or similar to record your nutrition macros. Protein intake is especially important during the WL journey so consider how you can incorporate 1-2g of protein per kg of your body weight per day into your diet
-know your BMR (the scales can help you with his) so you ensure you eat at least that amount per day and avoid your body going into starvation mode.
-you need to hydrate on MJ - lots of water all day long
-Digestive issues can be a side effect either constipation or diarrhoea so think about your fibre intake too.

Hope that helps! Good luck - starting MJ has really been the best decision for me.

Ah ok. Thanks for letting me know

It updated after I posted this last night and now had notification arriving tomorrow. Was thinking about starting an end of April starters thread as the current one is so busy and most posters are weeks ahead of us. Trying to decide what day to take dose now - keen to just start but a lot of people seem to favour weekend for injecting.

wlinewbie0425 · 21/04/2025 08:44

Thank you @Mounjaropen really helpful tips. I have a smart scale and weights already so plan to incorporate some lifting to make sure I don’t lose muscle. I’ll look at the other apps you mentioned too. The part I struggle with is fitting in enough movement as I work from home full time in a very busy role so often don’t move from my desk at all which is why my weight has crept up and up for a few years.

@Undecided2025 is that £109 plus postage with blue light? What strength was that? 2.5?

Good luck!

I think we’re all guilty of putting everyone and everything else before ourselves. I know o definitely did! However, in order to get the best out of MJ whilst taking and post goal weight you do need to carve out time to increase your exercise rate. Your digestion rate will slow significantly and an increased exercise rate will help keep things <ahem> ‘moving’ nicely! I know it seems daunting but a 20 min walk or joe wicks workout is do-able in a day and you’ll reap the benefits.

Good luck starting!

No, £109 all in with blue light intro discount. Yes 2.5

I do yoga, Pilates and a cardi fit class weekly, do I need to fit in weights too? Or will that be enough to start on?

I think if you add in a couple of short weights classes (hone is fine) you’ll have all the bases covered.

wishing you all the luck!
