Please can I ask how many calories your average on WL jabs?

I’m seriously considering going on wl injections. I have lost weight calorie counting but I am at my wits end. I don’t see how it is sustainable to restrict this way for 6 more months.

Please can you tell me how many calories you average on injections? I have a very low bmr due to pcos and wondering if jabs would even help. Or if I just have to carry on doing weight loss the way I am.

thanks!

I do 1200 calories with the help of MJ. I have whatever I fancy within the limit but make sure I'm getting some fruit/veg in and a big shake which has 50g of protein. I've been on this journey just over 4 months.

Pls can I ask how Mounjaro helps? Does it just stop food noise ? That is my biggest problem. I restrict easily enough but that pushes me to obsess over food

It quietens down the noise, reduces cravings and helps me to focus on my goals. I can’t eat as much as before, my portion sizes are smaller. I find choosing healthy options easy.

I have lost 11lb in 5 weeks. Other people seem to lose more, more quickly but I’m happy with that. I use weight watchers to keep track of what I eat.

JunoRoma · 09/04/2025 17:55

I started at a similar time to @TrinityWaves.
So far I've lost 24kg in 20 weeks.

I'm not actively restricting calories but I am logging what I eat, mainly to ensure that I'm getting enough protein and fibre in (I have to work quite hard at this). From this I can see that I'm averaging around 1200-1300 kcal per day. Sometimes a bit more or a bit less (depending on strength of suppression and if I've done a lot of exercise), but always between 1000 - 1500.

Willowy1982 · 09/04/2025 17:56

It makes dieting 'easy' I think. And long term. We can all restrict short term but it causes most people to obsess over food and end up in a constant binge / restrict cycle thus not losing weight and often gaining more. The WLI stop this cycle and make it sustainable to be on a calorie deficit diet long term. No food noise, balanced blood sugars, feeling full for longer, and making it easier to make healthy choices too.

It makes me way less hungry and massively reduces craving, so I can actually stick to the calorie count.

Without Mounjaro: I eat a reasonable portion of a healthy meal and within 3 hours I'm hungry again, both psychologically (thinking about food) and physiologically (stomach growling)

With Mounjaro: I eat the same amount of the same meal and don't think about food at all for the next 4-5 hours.

Zempy · 09/04/2025 18:57

I have lost two and a half stone in three months. Got another one and a half to go to get to mid point of healthy BMI.

I average between 800 and 1000 calories a day. I’m fairly sedentary though due to various disabilities.

I am full after eating much smaller portions, and stay full much longer. I just don’t think about food much.

Bellyblueboy · 09/04/2025 19:34

I am seven months in and have lost nearly three and a half stone.

I am now nine stone and I have been sticking to a 1200 calorie diet. I am only really hungry at meal times so I don’t snack between meals.

I hope to be able to stay on MJ for years and years. I used to obsess about food - my days revolved around d it: I still enjoy food but I am in control.

aylis · 09/04/2025 19:44

I take Mounjaro and eat 1500 calories. I absolutely refuse to restrict to less than that, it's miserable and as you say often unsustainable (though some days I naturally eat less than that). Some kind of exercise is vital in that though. I also eat two meals a day rather than 3 and I do bulk them out with a lot of fruit and veg and never miss my 5 a day (usually more).

Importantly though, I very rarely think about food on Mounjaro, and that's my main worry for when I eventually stop taking it, so that's why I'm trying not to do anything unsustainable. The first time I realised how much brain space I normally gave to food and how mounjaro had almost completely stopped it, I could have cried.

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 09/04/2025 21:05

About 1750 a day.

Vegemite123 · 09/04/2025 21:27

I've been on them for 6 months now. I use nutracheck, and follow their guidelines for calorie allowance. I get bonus calories to eat from my step count (usually over 10k steps), and I eat most of those calories.

So, in October, I generally ate around 1200-1400 calories a day. In January I re-set my goal for a slower weight loss, and had more fluctuation (1300-1800 a day). Now I've set my goal to maintenance I'm around 1600-2000 a day.

I like nutracheck as it has a "week view" option. Some days I go over my calories and some days I am under, but through the whole week I generally stay slightly under.

I would get more suppression if I increased my dose (I've never been higher than 5mg) but I'm trying to stay slow and steady.

PurpleCoo · 09/04/2025 22:54

I aim for for 1480 and this is easily manageable on MJ. Indeed, I stay on a low dose and I don't want to drop to eating less than this.

I exercise a lot though, at least 15 hours a week, sometimes as much as 20 now the nicer weather is here. Even more when on hiking holidays

NowGetUp · 10/04/2025 07:33

It varies for me between 500cals and 1500cals. I struggle to eat enough days 1 to 3 and even 500cals is hard going. But days 5 to 7 I feel hungry and staying less than 1500 cals is a challenge. I'd prefer a more even picture of 1200cals every day but I'm really struggling to attain this. It's one reason I'd like to split my dose across the week and take two smaller ones, rather than one larger one. But I'm unsure whether to take the plunge or not as some people on Mumsnet are quite anti doing anything against the guidelines and it's making me nervous to adjust my dose

Doggymummar · 10/04/2025 07:38

I aim for 1000 but it's tough as other people have said, it's generally around 800 for me. I make sure I get enough protein but I don't eat veg so supplement that. I've been on for over two years now and lost 5 stone. I have other health issues, and menopause which make it harder to lose weight and other than Cambridge Diet this is the only thing that has worked for me.

I've lost about the same as Juno in this time and I'm also similar in the calories distribution - I average 1200-a-day across the week but often am somewhere between 1000-1400.

InfoSecInTheCity · 10/04/2025 18:10

I deliberately eat 1200-1400. I could eat less and probably not feel hungry but I don’t want my hair to fall out, my muscles to waste away, my blood sugars to fall too low and I’d like to get used to a diet that I can eat forever even after WLI

SmallSoupcon · 10/04/2025 18:53

It varies from day to day depending how strongly I'm feeling the effects. I aim for 1400 but it can be anything from 900 up. In general I try to vary my daily calorie intake to prevent my metabolism slowing down.

JBJ · 10/04/2025 19:27

I aim to eat about 1400 a day. Most days, I’m under as I’m just not hungry enough, and other days I go over. It’s balancing itself out as I’ve lost very nearly 2st in 9.5 weeks

ShiftAMountain · 10/04/2025 20:09

1500-1600 calories per day. Lost about 65lbs in 7 months.

Plipo · 11/04/2025 00:05

Im extremely jealous. I gain weight eating 1500. Insulin resistance and pcos. I’ve lost 30 pounds so far and it’s been very tough. Gym x5 a week and 1200 calories. I doubt Mounjaro would even help me.

If you’ve been diagnosed with insulin resistant PCOS then mountjaro may actually be just what you need.

everyone thinks it’s just designed to suppress appetite but it’s a diabetes medication. That’s why I take it.

It is designed to increase the amount of insulin you produce and to make your body more receptive to the insulin that is produced. It does this by increasing 2 hormones.

It does also slow your digestion which makes you feel fuller for longer, but its primary function is to make you more able to break down the glucose you ingest.

daffodilandtulip · 11/04/2025 08:00

My BMR is 1100 without exercise. I've been on MJ since June and lost 65lbs.

Very interesting to hear. I was hoping weight loss would improve my pcos and insulin resistance. Need to go back to the dr to see if it has had any effect. Thanks for sharing
