Can side effects increase as the weeks go by?

Just feel like side effects outweighed the pros now.
i was ok on week 1-3 on 5mg but now around week 5-6 Feel dreadful. Didn’t realise that side effects can increase as the weeks go on.
Has anyone had this?

Well the amount of medication in your system increases each week, as the previous week’s dose hasn’t fully left your system by the time you do the next injection. So that may well be the cause of your side effects increasing. You can drop back down to 2.5mg rather than continue with 5mg and see if that helps.

The medication builds up in the system. Do you drink enough water? As stated in the patient info sheet 2-3 litres a day? This is really important for avoiding dehydration which leads to serious side effects. What side effects are you getting? Some food affects people too such as fatty fried or greasy food and heavy carbs like pasta or steak (hard to digest meat).

Has anyone really looking into these injections? There are many side effects and they range all the way up to severe. I suggest you all look this up.

Well I've been on them 6 months and not had a single side effect so please stop scare mongering. Most of us did many months of research before starting but we also eat clean and follow the recommendations.

Your body is adjusting. It normally goes away, but if you constantly have side-effects, to me it indicates you are depleted in important minerals/vitamins or have a gut imbalance.

I had terrible bone pain for over a week, so much so I almost quit. Then I stacked up on minerals every day and all of it went away.

I always recommend people to follow the basic principles with Mounjaro:

  • Very important to drink plenty of water (3-4L per day) as M kind of dehydrates you a bit.
  • M can deplete B12 and gut bacteria. I always tell people to stack up on B12, trace minerals (in liquid form) pro-biotics, electrolytes. When these values are good people have very few side effects, in general.
  • If you get acid reflux (very common) it indicates your gut bacteria is out of synch; I always recomend probiotics for 2 weeks, others prefer to solve it with alka selzer or peppermint tea.
  • Keep portions smaller per serving (i.ex. like Waitrose ready-made meal sizes) rather than big portions. If you still have cravings, just eat smaller portions some 2-3 hours apart. Some people get very sick and throw up if they overeat on M (or if they have alcohol) since the entire digestion slows down, and the pancreas can get overwhelmed if you keep filling up when it hasn't processed what was already added previously.
  • Bear in mind that if you take meds, M can make the dose feel higher... that's related to the digestion slowing down.

Those are very useful recommendations @AquaOrca but i think it’s important to acknowledge that some side effects will linger around regardless of what we do. The vitamins and electrolytes and right potions have fixed some side effects but not all.
This is a great tool to lose weight but it’s not perfect

Of course people have looked into them. Grin Did you think you were the only person in the world with a brain?

I didn’t find the increased. But they do sometimes occur randomly. I’ve had very little really big occasionally I will randomly get a bad stomach for 12 hours or so. No rhyme or reason to it as it doesn’t seem linked to anything I’ve eaten (I eat basically the same things on rotation for ease).

AskingMabel · 13/04/2025 08:17

At the beginning, some constipation not much else.

Then later, about 7 weeks in, REALLY bad rashes on my arms (allergic reaction) which took 3 weeks to clear. 16 weeks in, a small rash on my knee which went away quickly.

Occasionaly, fatigue, especially around month 2 - 3.

Also, from time to time, sore throat, glands up, runny nose.

I'm at month 5 now and most side effects have diminished or only occur occasionally and are pretty minor and random.

That's true. Mounjaro can also reveal underlying conditions that cause side-effects that are not standard. But, many people have found ways to throw them off.
