I've just ordered my first pen... I was feeling optimistic but I'm now riddled with anxiety about it.

First of all I signed up with Voy as they put me forward for a research trial costing £149 each month.
They've rejected me for the trial based on my medication (but still approved me to have the drug).
So I'm now going to cancel with them as they're very expensive at full price and enter the depths of shopping around each month - that doesn't really appeal me, but never mind.
I've read about monj so I'll use that to help me find the best price in future.

Questions:
What day off the week do you inject?
What days are side effects worse?
How do you know when it's time to increase your dosage?
Does anyone know of anyone where the side effects were just too unmanageable and had to stop their injections?

Thank You

I do a Friday night so that any D&V type side effects happen at the weekend, however I have been pretty lucky and haven't had anything much other than a bit sick after booze (not unusual) and constipated.

My only real side effects have been a bit of hair loss and feeling freezing cold all the time.

I've been on it since June 24 and haven't gone up as far as 7.5 yet. I know it is frowned upon but I go up in half doses so have been on 6.25 for a couple of months. I only go up when the suppression really reduces.

I do it Monday as I WFH that day so it’s easy. I had no side effects until 7.5mg then I had to go back down as it made me feel too sick. You increase when it feels like it’s not working anymore

I Jab sunday evening, as I read that suppression wears off the last couple of days and I want to be able to eat properly for my day long walks at the weekend.

I've been lucky to only have mild side effects, def felt the cold for the first week. Very thirsty too. Had a gurgly stomach the first night and very windy first few days (both ends!)

I get a headache if I havent drunk loads of water. Tired in the evenings, bed by 10! But sleeping SO well.

Day of the week - Thursday
Side effects - Besides feeling the cold more I’ve never had any
When to increase - I asked when I’d gone 4 weeks with very little loss. I was on 5mg for 20 weeks total
Had to stop - Not personally, have read a couple of peoples accounts on here saying they’ve had to stop, but not many.

Oh and I do it Thursday because I received it on a Thursday, no logic or reasoning was involved in the decision 😂

Hi OP! I’m a very new starter, only on Wednesday of this week. I chose Wednesday so that I would have a full week of Mounjaro before going on holiday next week.
I haven’t had any major side effects. I did feel tight-chested and a bit breathless for around 24 hours, a couple of days after my first dose. But that seems to have subsided now. I’m absolutely fine during the day at work but my evenings are pretty much a write-off. I am completely exhausted. I too feel cold.
But zero side effects when it comes to nausea or having to rush to the loo.

TootieFrooties · 04/04/2025 21:37

I inject on a Saturday because I don’t work on weekends and I wanted as much time as possible in case of side effects.

I have had absolutely no side effects at all.

On the topic of side effects though, one thing I do think is important is to understand how Mounjaro work and what it is designed to do. Understanding that helps to identify why you might be getting side effects and how to stop them, also to ensure you are using it effectively.

MJ works by increasing a couple of hormones that govern how much insulin is produced and how sensitive you are to the insulin produced. So your body should be more effective at breaking down glucose which prevents it from converting to fat and reduces the effects of high blood sugar.

If you do not eat, if you restrict very very heavily then you are very likely to experience low blood sugar - light headedness, fatigue, weakness. You will also just deal with the standard effects of a VLCD like poor skin, muscle wastage/weakness, hair loss,

It also slows down your digestion which helps you to feel fuller for longer, so if you eat greasy food, highly acidic foods, a complete lack of fibre then that will sit in your guts for longer and is likely to irritate and cause you to feel unwell.

To achieve the best results and feel good while you do it, you should use an online calculator to figure out your TDEE and eat 500 less calories than that. What you eat should be healthy, nutritious and varied. Protein, good fats, green veg, berries, nuts, seeds, whole grains. Avoid/reduce refined carbs, bad fats and high sugar fruits.

Also try to up your exercise if you can to keep your muscles strong and increase your metabolism and drink lots of water because it’s actually used in the process that breaks down and expels fat so if you don’t have enough your weight loss will stall.

MJ is in my opinion brilliant stuff, it has not got rid of my hunger or made it impossible to eat, but it has somehow made it so I just don’t care as much about food, I enjoy what I eat, but I’m not thinking about it all the time, if my belly rumbles and I know I’ll be having dinner soon then I can just ignore it and wait without obsessing over how hungry I am, if I see a delicious cake in a cafe, I tell myself no and it’s fine I don’t regret it or think about it non-stop until I give in and get it. It makes it easier to stick to the diet long term and not fall off the wagon.
