Can only afford 6 months worth of treatment- worth it or don't bother?

Hi everyone,

I'm really overweight now , 5ft 8, 16 stone. Had 2 kids and really struggling with the losing weight, I've been big all my life but all I think about is food now. I'm a bit nervous as I'm worried about side effects etc, but I figured if I don't lose weight now my health is going to suffer. I have hardly any energy, high cholesterol and really low self esteem because of my weight. I've had a baby 4 months ago and I've put on a stone just since I've had him.. 😭

Anyway, I'm on maternity pay- I really can't afford it. However, my mum has offered me £1000 as she knows how much my weight is effecting me. Obviously I am totally blown away by this, so so kind. This will buy me possibly around 5.5-6 months from pricing I've seen online. Is this enough? I've seen most people saying you have to go on a maintenance dose and others who've been on injections much longer.

I don't know what to do, I definitely can't afford anymore than what the £1000 covers. And I don't want it to be a complete waste of money if it's not enough! But in the other hand I'd really like to give it a go.

I know no one can probably give me a definitive answer, I would just like to hear experiences if anyone has any! Thank you ☺️

Hi, I started mid-February and have lost 1 stone 9lbs so far. It's definitely worth trying OP, especially with the generous gift from your mum.

I've found walking easier, less pain in my hips. I can get in and out of bed and my car more gracefully and the feeling of my clothes getting a bit looser is amazing. Like others have said, you find that you don't need to eat as much food to feel full and your cravings for snacks should disappear so you'll be saving money that way. There can be side-effects, obviously (I've been sick twice - once horrendously so) but mostly they are manageable.

You have the opportunity to change your life for the better here - go for it! x

I say go for it! I have lost 2 stone 5 pounds since Jan 8.

I am saving loads of money due to not buying loads of shitty snacks/not drinking alcohol. So you will offset some of the costs.

I lost 3.5stone in 3 months. Im 5'8 and started at 13.10. I then dropped a further stone and a half once I quite the jabs cold turkey without much effort as I'm just so used to eating less. Tbh, I need to gain some weight now but can't seem to since the jab!

Your stats are very similar to my starting stats (5ft 8, 41yrs old, 15st 8lb), 6 months on and I’m 11st 5, healthy BMI (only just but it’s still true) and have gone from size 22 to 14. I eat low carb, high protein, high fibre, initially 1600 calories a day but now reduced to 1400 as my weight has decreased so my TDEE has reduced inline, and I exercise at the gym or pool minimum 3 times a week.
