Sharps bin disposal

Just wondered if anyone else has found problems with trying to properly dispose of a sharps bin? The pharmacy near me doesn't offer it and my GP surgery will only take ones that they supplied in the first place. It seems that I'll have to pay the council for clinical waste collection, which I think will cost about £30! I'm sorely tempted to just throw the thing in the household waste, although don't worry, I won't (I don't want to get fined). Does anyone know if any of the larger chain pharmacies can help?

It depends on the pharmacies I think. In my town, one or three Boots will, in the next town, none of them will.

My sister in law is a nurse and took mine to work with her. Maybe try a hospital?

There are a couple of big Boots in the next town which I guess I could try! There's a big hospital as well but that would be a faff to get to and park at so I don't think it would be an option.

I took mine to boots and they accepted it.

Theres usually specific drop offs in each council area and they have specific ways to deal with them.

Have you googled your council and sharps disposal? It often gives you the drop off points.

Our local authority has a collection service, so have a look at your LA’s website.

Yes, there is the council option but as far as I can tell there's no drop-off point and a collection costs money. That might be the only option if I have no joy with Boots though.

I had difficulties getting rid of my sharps bin when I did ivf. I think I eventually paid the council to collect it. It really shouldn’t be hard if they want people to dispose of sharps responsibly.

Are you sure you are looking at the right thing? Personal medical sharps collections are usually free. It’s usually businesses that have to pay?

Maybe! I'll have to fill out the form and see if I get to a bit that asks for payment details.
