GLP1 efficacy stalls when I eat/ drink any form of sugar or fat despite much reduced calorie intake .

It probably sounds like anobvious thing but I rarely eat processed sugars or saturated fats, perhaps a small slice of birthday cake or some wine. But when I do, my weight loss simply stalls despite still only eating much reduced calories each day.
Mia this a thing for all of you and what does it indicate.
my GI system has totally settled down bar the odd bout of nausea and I now only go to the toilet proper every 3/4 days.
thos is my first rodeo and six weeks in.
I lost 11 lbs in the first 2/4 weeks but have stalled since I had the odd amount of sugar/ sat fat. Thanks

When you say "stalled" what do you mean - you've done 6 weeks and lost for 4 weeks, but now your weight has stayed the same for the last 2 weeks?

I would say that's fairly normal and that your weight loss will continue soon. There are always variations in what weight is lost each week, and I wouldn't assume it's connected directly to eating a small slice of birthday cake or having a glass of wine.

Thanks for taking the time to respond . Exactly that yes, four weeks consistent loss and stalled for two weeks. Literally to the 0. Button! Can I do anything to help this along bar all bran and lots of water?
it seems that it was all settling in very well until I had my first intake of sugar/ fat/ alcohol albeit in small amounts while keeping the calorie deficit. Is it an insulin thing?

I think it is a normal weight loss thing.

Your body has gotten used to the calories deficit I would imagine. How many calories are you eating a day and how much do you weigh?

dizzydizzydizzy · 01/04/2025 09:48

That's quite a big loss in 4 weeks.

It's hard to say really. Two things come to mind: 1 have you reduced your calorie intake after your weigh loss? 2. What sort of time of day are you having this birthday cake or wine? I have certainly read it is more detrimental in the evenings.

SilenceInside · 01/04/2025 09:48

I doubt it, because Mounjaro is working to stabilise your blood sugars. I think it's just coincidental and that after a great start, you are just on a not unusual short plateau. Keep going and you will continue with the downwards trend.

Thanks so much. I started at 91.7 kg. I’m currently 86kg. I’m 5’7’. I’m probably taking in an average 1700 calories per day.

I actually thought this about me for a while. .But truthfully, if I track calories, when I eat anything sugary/fatty, it's very easy to consume more calories than I think I am. So, in the end, I discovered that I was actually just eating more calories.
Now, I do eat the odd sweet thing but I track and I still lose weight regardless.
But also, weight loss fluctuates. I've been on MJ since October and the weight loss is definitely not a straight line.

SilenceInside · 01/04/2025 10:24

Do you exercise regularly? Just wondering what your TDEE is and how much below that 1700 calories would be.

’probably’ and ‘average’ isn’t good enough. You need to track those calories to the letter. Work out how many you need to be in a true deficit.

smithyz · 01/04/2025 10:33

Thanks. My maintenance is 2335 calories per day .

OP posts:
SilenceInside · 01/04/2025 10:37

I'm guessing you do a lot of exercise?

smithyz · 01/04/2025 10:45

I walk four times per week for twenty mins and weight train twice per week .

could be your menstrual cycle. Lots of women retain more water before/during their period.

smithyz · 01/04/2025 10:56

Thanks but I’m 51 and went into menopause at approx 42. I’m on HRT though.

I think that TDEE sounds a bit high to me given the level of activity you've described. Unless you're on your feet all day in an active job as well as the exercise. So I suspect you are under your TDEE by a smaller amount than expected, resulting in a slower weight loss than you'd hoped.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 01/04/2025 10:57

I think what you've noticed is correlation rather than causation.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 01/04/2025 10:59

I also think you've overestimated your TDEE. Four twenty minute sessions of walking a week would put you at largely sedentary. I think your true TDEE is likely to be closer to 1800kcal. Sorry.

letshavetea · 01/04/2025 11:14

I think you’ve been on MJ for a short amount of time and need to be prepared to be in it for the long haul. You don’t say your height, starting weight, current weight and potential goal weight and current BMI. Also any Co morbidities etc. Your initial weight loss was probably a lot of water weight (it is for all of us). A healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs a week. You’ll find lots of posts where people share their weight loss on various graphs. Most of us have periods of loss, staying the same etc etc. What you’ll see is a general downward trend over time though. I use Monitor your weight (there are lots of other ones thought).

You may find it useful to join the February starters thread (I am guessing the is is when you started?). Continuing Mounjaro thread is very helpful too.

As I’m sure you’re aware MJ gives us chance to reset our food quantities and types of food and drink consumed. It’s best seen as a chance to re evaluate what we’re eating and when. I find the Zoe podcasts are immensely helpful.

People have already given some very helpful advice re tdee. You might want to use one of the calorie and macro nutrients plotters (I use fat secret) - there are lots of them.

Good 🍀 Luck.

pinkcow123 · 01/04/2025 14:53

I'm 30kg heavier than you and my 'goal' to lose 2lbs per week is 1790 per day. I'd suspect yours would be lower than 1700 to lose 2lb per week?

AskAl · 01/04/2025 15:30

Stalling for a while is normal. I think of it as your body adjusting.

Are you saying you lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks? That seems very fast at your weight.

IrisPallida · 01/04/2025 17:36

Yes, your TDEE seems incorrect.
