How much weight can I lose per month on Mounjaro?

Hello all!

I am strongly considering starting weightless injections (mounjaro) and I am wondering how much weight I can expect to lose per week / month on the medication?

I of course understand that this will vary enormously from person to person. And for context I have a BMI of about 32 so whilst obese I am on the lower level of being obese (unsure If that makes a difference to speed of loss though).

When on the medication I intend to eat relatively healthily, as I am doing so already, don't think I will be doing much exercise though.

Is it realistic to think that I can move to a healthy BMI within 6 months ish?

Thanks for your help!

Started with a bmi of 37.4 at the end of September
Now pretty much at the six month point, still on 5mg
I’ve lost 3st 3lb and bmi is 29.8
I lost a stone in the first month and then it slowed to a sensible levels and I’ve averaged 1-2lbs a week.

@justtheonequestion1 i combined, to lose weight I needed to diet and taking the MJ helped me stick to the plan. Without my effort I don’t think I’d have been successful. Keto is my diet of choice but just with a little less fat and more protein. My appetite took a hit in the early days which made dieting much easier. I agree with others about working out your TDEE, that helped me enormously as now I calorie count to stick at goal whilst taking 2.5mg.

I'm 5ft3 started in October at 13st 1lb bmi 32.4, almost 6 months later I'm down to 11st 2lb bmi 27.34 and lost 2 stones. I eat less than my calorie deficit of 1250 and im strict on calories but I have insulin resistance and other inflammatory conditions, so I've noticed 10mg has been the game changer for me with stable blood sugars and consistent losses now and my waist is shrinking finally, been on it 5 weeks now. Basically you don't know how your body will react and lose weight. Drink lots of water and prioritise protein over carbs.

What do you think Mounjaro does? By which I mean, how do you think it works?

Because I think you need to understand that the drug itself won’t make you lose anything. It doesn’t act in a vacuum and it’s not a magic fat-melter. The impact it has is on your appetite and feelings of fullness so from a nutritional point of view you’ll need to eat sensibly anyway. But just like any other diet or diet-aid you’ll need to be in a calorie deficit.

Aim for 1-2lbs a month, be supported by Mounjaro in maintaining a calorie deficit and you will succeed. But be aware that it’s not going to do it for you. You need to do the diet-work and Mounjaro is a tool that will make it easier to maintain and not binge.

in estimating your calorie deficit, Losertown is a website that will calculate your TDEE and help you to set your deficit.

I think you mean 1-2 per week, not per month. Because that would be silly.

I’ve lost about a pound a week every week since August the 15th last year and I’m very pleased with that. It’s been hard work but absolutely worth it.

Ah I commented back in March in this thread that I had lost 4 stone. It’s FIVE AND A HALF now!!

sorry, it was such a boost to read

Gettingbysomehow · 22/06/2025 20:51

I've lost 5 stone and I lost 2lbs a week. I would not recommend losing more unless you want to have no energy and look like a melted candle. Rapid weight loss is not kind on skin. Especially ageing skin.

I've just completed my 1st month so early days for me.
I started with a BMI of 30.5 and my weight was 11 stone 7lbs. I'm a shortie and ''mature" so I expected to lose weight slowly.
My loss is 7lbs and I'm happy with that and I have lost inches which pleases me as I'm desperately seeking my waist again.
How are you doing op?

Witchyandtwitchy · 24/06/2025 16:06

I started in September last year at 16st! BMI 33.
I’m now 12.9 BMI 26.
I lost a stone in the first month, half a stone in the second then it’s been around 1-2 lbs a week.
Just under a stone to go to reach my goal!

It completely depends on many things - your diet, your calorie intake, your metabolism, your exercise levels etc - everyone's different the same with any weight loss method.

The most I've lost in a month is 10lbs - I've lost 55lbs altogether in 6 months but I've probably lost quicker than most and that's not necessarily healthy. There are people on the thread I'm on who started at the same time as me who've lost half that amount in the same period 🤷‍♀️

Don't compare yourself to others is my advice!

I'm 8 months in and have lost 50 lbs. I had a very big loss the first month, because I responded quickly to 2.5mg (now on 7.5 mg), after that it's been about a pound a week, sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more. I haven't been counting calories, just eating a lot less. I suspect that very soon I will have to be more 'scientific' about it to lose the last 20 pounds. I do see from posts on MN that everyone is different, so it's difficult to say how things will go for you. One thing is for certain though, MJ is a game changer! Good luck.
