It's like the Mounjaro pays for itself. I put it off for ages for a variety of reasons, but cost being one of them. I paid full price at medexoress so I think £158. Ish.

Previously drinking far too much wine, buying lunches at work, snacks from the local shop/petrol station. Vending machine at work, takeaway coffee etc.

In 2 weeks I've spent 8.50 on wine (rather than £80 plus!)

I've not spent around £20 on snacks/drinks at work.

£10 less taking the dc to McD.

I'm well on the way to being in credit!

Yes of course, I save a lot more than the cost of the jab, if you take off the cost of new knickers!

Azandme · 29/03/2025 14:30

Yes. I buy nothing at work as I take a 65p tin of soup for lunch every day. I used to spend £4.80 buying lunch.

DenholmElliot11 · 29/03/2025 14:30

All those little fivers on sandwiches/meal deals/snacks/coffee/drinks etc etc add up don't they?

We don't realise.

Even weight loss surgery was cheaper than my normal diet, over the course of a year.

I mistakenly picked up a pack of knickers in a size down about 6 months ago so I'm hopeful they'll fit soon as I do need some new ones.

They really do! A few weeks ago I bought a McD brekkie on my way somewhere, then 4 hours later spent £11 in the petrol station on drinks and snacks!! Nearly £20 in one day!

Yes I live alone and my food shopping bill has reduced by £35 a fortnight, when I batch cook meals last longer as I make more portions and it saves buying canteen meals, when i buy them I buy smaller portions which are cheaper.

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 29/03/2025 17:33

It's made a huge difference - my bank balance has never looked so healthy. Actually, nor have I!

Gettingbysomehow · 29/03/2025 17:39

I was saving a ton of money, what I'd normally spend on scoffing food but I've gone down 2 dress sizes so I've had to buy all new clothes.
Not to many as I have 2 more stone to go.

Gettingbysomehow · 29/03/2025 17:39

Even my shoes are all too big.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 29/03/2025 18:05

@Gettingbysomehow ooh that must feel great! I have a wardrobe full of too small clothes so won't need to buy any for a while

No more fancy lattes, alcohol consumption right down, not buying cakes/nibbles/treats/chocolate etc. No buying fancy desserts and ice-creams to eat at home, If we eat out there is no pudding. Takeaways now once every 3/4 weeks.

I reckon I am saving at least £60 a week compared to pre-MJ days

IDontHateRainbows · 29/03/2025 18:39

Yes, eating a lot less/ snacking a lot less but I've developed an obsession with perfumes which is apparently very common with mj it's like your brain swaps eating for scents, so I've spent loads on perfumes as a sort of pleasure substitute. Still beats pigging out. And I've rediscovered loads of clothes I got too fat for so money saved there!

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 29/03/2025 18:40

I WAS saving money until the want need for new clothes started..

GrandChampionBestinDungeonPrincessDonut · 29/03/2025 22:25

Not me, I am so cold all the time now that I am spending more on heating and buying thick jumpers and a heated throw.

Fatmumslim01 · 29/03/2025 23:54

I'm only on week 2 but Ive worked out my medication costs £6 a day I think. Today I went on a walk and we would usually get a coffee but I didn't so that was at least £3 saved.

MounjaroOnMyMind · 30/03/2025 03:44

I've saved tons of money, though I did have to replace all my clothes. The ones I bought are now too big, too, so I'm trying to work out what size to buy next. Size 14 is too big for me now (not a sentence I ever thought I'd say) but I just don't believe I'd fit into a 12.

I was spending about £30 per week on alcohol - on average about 1/2 bottle a night - terrible, I know. Sometimes I'd buy gin or other spirits instead but I can't believe it would've been less than £30 so that's £120 per month.

Then there are snacks. Even at £1 per day (unlikely) then that's £30.

Then perhaps a takeaway once a week - another £15 or so.

Then I'd go for meals out with friends - say £50 per month. We now go for a drink and have lime and soda. 😇

That's £215 per month before daily food is taken into account!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/03/2025 05:50

We have very little disposable income so the jab (even heavily discounted) is noticible costing us.

We didnt spend 100s a month on alxohol/takeaways before as we simply didn't have it. We are struggling to save for driving lessons so me doing this has been a real sacrifice.

I am eating less. But I'm still making family meals just not eating as much as everyone else. I think it's probably a few pounds here and there rather than the huge savings others are making though and it's still really costing us for me to do this 😳.
Health wise though it will be worth it. But where I have so much to lose I am worried I may need to be on it long term.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/03/2025 05:56

So potentially a £3 a week on crisps, £3 on cheese, £2 crackers. Maybe a pound or two saved on family meals but I'm still making them... Maybe £10 a week at most.

So £40 off a month but I'm spending over £100.

And at Xmas we moved to trying to buy ultra processed free and buying more Real Food. So actually I've probably easily spent that on better food.... We have been trying to buy fish once a week, variety of veg, avocado's. It's really not cheap. And food prices have gone up.

Hmm. I'm not sure I've saved but we are eating better.

TidyDancer · 30/03/2025 06:39

I haven’t added it up before now but I’m definitely spending less. I’m not buying anything snack wise in the mornings on the way to work so no trip to Co-op or Greggs and I would say that’s saving about £25 per week. I haven’t had an alcoholic drink since last August so maybe another £25 per month for my preferred vodka brand (I was never a big drinker). That would work out at about £130 per month I’m just not spending, plus the less junk food in the weekly shop probably bumps that up again so I would say at the very least I’m breaking even on it.

I was cynical when I read at the start how much people were saving but actually I have done reasonably well.
