Operation and Mounjaro

Has anyone recently had an operation whilst taking mounjaro? I'm due to have an elective minor op in May.

I'm reading conflicting information about stopping the injection prior to the operation.

Annoyingly the pre admissions department won't talk to me because the operation hasn't been booked in with them yet.

What have you been advised please?

This is from the Royal College of Anaesthetists website, from January of this year:

The advice is to continue taking it, and discuss it at the pre operation appointment.

I was wondering the same thing as I’m having a hysterectomy in July. Good to see it shouldn’t be a problem to continue to take it.

Please do specifically tell your Anaesthetist as it potentially subtly changes the way we get you off to sleep. It’s not a big deal, it’s just important we know about it.
I am trying to add in asking about it to all my pre-op visits now, but not everyone will be, so best to mention it directly to the Anaesthetist.
Hope the op goes well.

I’m having an op next week, I was told that I need to stop MJ 2 weeks before the op. When I asked why she said because it slows digestion I may still have food in my stomach even after fasting and this could cause asphyxiation under GA. Interesting to hear others have said it’s fine to continue. I have stopped anyway, my op is on Thursday which is my jab day so I just didn’t take any yesterday and will inject again after the op.

That seems ludicrous @MummyInTheNecropolis to have to stop it 2 weeks before the op, surely a few days would suffice and you can just fast for longer to ensure gastric emptying. I suppose each hospital and practitioner will have different opinions and protocols.

I was told to stop two weeks before the date of the operation too.

Different surgeon’s and anaesthetists will have slightly different opinions so you will have to speak to yours for their policy closer to the date of operation. I’ve heard 2 weeks and less but it will be up to your surgeon/anaesthetist.

Yes I would’ve thought so too, but I really need this op, I’ve been waiting years for it, so I’m just doing as I’m told! I don’t think skipping a week will do any harm, it’s 9 days now since my last jab and I don’t feel any different, still have appetite suppression etc.

I’m booked in for surgery next month and I was told two weeks as well
