Hello everyone,

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who's interested in learning more about Mounjaro from people with similar health backgrounds. She's living with rheumatoid arthritis, is overweight, and is considering Mounjaro for weight loss to get to a healthy weight which may in turn positively impact her RA symptoms.

She's currently taking the following medications:

  • Humira (biological treatment) and methotrexate (both injected) for RA
  • Celecoxib (for inflammation)
  • Painkillers for pain management
  • Joint injections for symptom relief

If you're using Mounjaro and have a similar health profile, she'd love to hear from you. Specifically, she's interested in learning about:

  • Any benefits or risks you've experienced while taking Mounjaro
  • Potential interactions or issues with other medications (especially those listed above)
  • Any advice or warnings from your healthcare provider regarding Mounjaro use with these existing conditions and medications
  • where you source your Mounjaro from and your experience of obtaining a prescription (her GP is not permitted to prescribe it to any patient and is niether for nor against it but has said she could consider a private prescription)

Your insights and experiences will be invaluable in helping her make an informed decision. Thank you in advance for sharing!

I dont have RA but ME and POTS which is quite different but maybe my experience can help.

I dint know about medication but I’ve learnt that Mounjaro has an impact on the sympathetic/parasympathetic system. Basically, if your condition is easily affected by stress and/or emotional stress, you might find you’re getting worse.
Obviously the impact is greater is the dose is higher.
I found my POTS is worse (that’s what is the most sensitive for me) so I have to be particularly careful around that

One side effect is tiredness but strangely enough I haven’t seen a huge difference there. With fatigue agd exhaustion being top of my symptoms list, I was worried it would flare up. It didn’t. Go and figure 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I haven’t seen any contra indication for painkillers. Or at least none of mines have. And I imagine local injections won’t be an issues

Pharmacy wise, I suspect any pharmacy that is selling the injections privately will be ok.

Im using Mounjaro for the same reason - I’m hoping that loosing weight will help some if the issues I have. Or make them easier. I’m on 5mg agd will need to up the dose so still at the start kf my journey.

Hope it will go well for her!

I have psoriatic arthritis and on biologics and painkillers. My consultant knows about me taking mounjaro and is very supportive. No mention at all of any contraindications on the meds I’m taking but overall pleased as weight loss will hugely help my joints.

I have a friend on biologics and painkillers who has used Mounjaro.

Her consultant said he had no objection but he doubted any online prescriber would accept her without an explicit authorisation from GP which was unlikely to happen as, although the GP might not object, they would be unlikely to feel they knew enough to take the responsibility and would say the prescriber should do that as they are the person issuing the prescription and being paid for the service.

She did manage to get it via a GP-led service that had regular phone calls and follow-ups, has now reached a weight she is happy with and is maintaining.

There is an interaction risk with any opiate painkillers as they slow the bowels and so do GLP1s which could increase the risk of severe constipation, gastroparesis or bowel obstruction
