So why is it that some people are super sensitive to mounjaro and others just aren’t ?

I’m a slower loser on MJ than a lot of others.

I’ve had varying degrees of suppression as well as nasty side effects. I’m on 7.5mg now. I slowly crept up to it, to avoid side effects but weight loss is slow and suppression is good but not incredible.

I don’t binge much anymore. I’m averaging at around 1.200 calories a day, I’m quite active.

I lose 2 kg a month maybe. It’s slow but I’m losing.

why do I need so much more MJ than others who stay on 2.5 mg and lose 30 kg? Or on 5 mg for 6 months and lose 1 kg a week consistently.

am I broken ? Is it my hormones ? Thyroid checks out fine on blood tests.

starting weight was around 101 last year January. Then I lost 8 kg. Had to go off the meds for side effects, gained 3 kg. Then lost 3 kg, then went back on and it took ages to lose the 3kg.

I am at 89 kg now so it’s moving in the right direction and I’m desperate to get down to 65-70 kg.

it’s just taking so long ! No one has said anything about my 11 kg weight loss as it’s so so so slow. But to be honest, I would rather people didn’t comment. Perhaps I’ll have less loose skin too ?

but why are there people who it works for so extremely quickly on such low doses and others who need higher doses ? I go up doses quite slowly.

so over a few weeks like this :

5mg

5.5mg

6.2 mg

7 mg

7.5 mg

is that the problem ? I just don’t want to vomit and be in bed for days ( as happened when I first started ).

I know you've said a lot of people and not all people but I don't agree with this. I am one of the people for whom 2.5mg worked for, for 5 months. I lost nearly 2.5 stone and I wasn't in the right diet mindset when I started taking it for this to have happened without Mounjaro, yet my appetite was gone. I also know it's not placebo as after 3 months on 2.5mg I started getting sulphur burps & 12 hours of D&V, despite still being on.the lowest dose. 2 weeks ago I tried a 3.75mg dose as I felt my appetite suppression was wearing off. The suppression was excellent but I also had 48 hours of awful nausea & vomiting. I've not jabbed for 2 weeks as a result, in the hopes of clearing the meds from my system, and am going to try 2.5mg today, and try jabbing every 10 days instead of 7 to see if this helps me aboid the side effects. I seem to be very sensitive to the effects of mounjaro and I'm sure there are many like me for whom the suppression & weight loss on low doses is not a placebo effect.

I do agree not all people, certainly some will be hyper sensitive. I think the downside of that is the likely getting more side effects.
Whilst lower doses had no positive effect on me they also had no side effects.
Love your username btw. I often refer to myself as a chubster.

I was on MJ for 20 weeks. 5 weeks of 2.5 and 14 weeks of 5mg and a final 2.5mg. Before I started MJ, I had started exercising and dieting but the weight loss was slow. When I started MJ, I still had food noise throughout, I was hungry but I felt full quickly when eating and that was from the second day.
I could still carry on eating however, i can also stop without having hunger pangs (not sure if this makes sense). I just used this to my advantage and stopped eating when I’m not feeling hungry anymore and I lost 21kg in the 20 weeks which was 24% of my body weight and within the healthy BMI range. As I was losing a lot of weight with less side effects, I can’t justify why I would increase my dose.
I’ve now stopped MJ over 5 weeks ago and there has not been any huge difference in hunger, etc. because I never experienced full suppression anyway. What’s interesting is that I’ve not been doing anything really differently in terms of eating and still exercising as I did throughout on MJ and I’m not losing weight anymore which has been quite interesting in a way. Like I lose and gain the same 1lb the week and I’ve stayed the same for 5 weeks. I’m maintaining so not complaining but I can’t quite explain what MJ did that made me lose those weight in that 20 weeks.

This is all so fascinating. Most interesting thread on here

This is exactly what I don't get either. Before going on WLI I tracked calories religiously and stayed within 1000-1200. I would lose a small amount and put it back on and I was hungry and miserable all the time. Yet on Mounjaro, I'm now eating the same number of calories (basically forcing myself to some days), and the weight keeps coming off.

Tbh I think a lot of people who say they have weight loss from day one 2.5mg are having a placebo effect combined with being in the mindset to diet.
If it really worked that fast at the titration dose I think the manufacturer would be promoting that.
I felt zero effect until 7.5mg

No placebo effect here. I have been on 2.5mg for 4 months and lost 4 stone. It genuinely had worked and taken away any desire I have to snack or binge and has enabled me to choose and eat healthy meals every time, and smaller portions.

Witchyandtwitchy · 25/03/2025 09:27

Definitely no placebo effect for me.
I’d been trying to lose weight without success, despite following a healthy diet. I’d been going up down a few pounds and overall my weight was actually creeping up!
So when I started on MJ I carried on with the same diet and just stepped on the scales each morning to see the pounds steadily coming off.
I lost a stone on my first month on 2.5mg.
So far I’m down 2st 10lb and now loosing about 1.5lb a week on 10mg.

I didn’t have to learn a new way of eating as my diet is actually very healthy. I am drinking a lot more water and my portions are a bit smaller. I’m drinking slightly less alcohol.
DH doesn’t know I’m on it and he would’ve noticed if I was suddenly eating like mouse and teetotal!

MJ is helping my body work properly.

Hi, I've been lurking on MN for a while now and finally got round to signing up!

This thread is particularly interesting to me. I've been on MJ since beg Nov so nearly 5 months and have lost 3 stone. Slow and steady which I'm happy with. Ideally, I'd like to lose another 2 stone.

My initial suppression was good. I started losing almost immediately, only increasing the dose because I thought I 'had to'. Anyone else feel that way? It continued working at the same steady loss of about a pound or so weekly so I stayed on 5mg until Feb.

As the suppression had slowed right down, I thought I needed to go to 7.5. Had high hopes but suppression was nothing like the lower doses. Still isn't. Weight loss slowed down but still there so ordered another 7.5 thinking my lovely body needed to just settle into it. I know I've been really lucky to not have had any side effects apart from red marks at injection sites ( better on thigh than tummy tho).

Got the order approved but then had a strange email from the pharmacist saying that if I didn't follow 'prescribing guidelines' they may not continue approving. This was from Simple Online as per another thread. Haven't been brave enough to query it...

Do realise this is sort of crossing over 2 different threads (sorry) but now I'm wondering, will they and like others, why would they criticise steady weight loss? Importantly, why is the higher dose not working as well as the lower ones?

Should I stay where I am? Go back down?

If I could ask also, I'm often reading on MN and this particular thread about different doses, staggering doses and haven't a clue how you're all doing these 😂. I would say you're all cleverer than me to do this because a) it never occurred to me and b) wouldn't know where to start. I read a thread about 'golden doses' and got completely lost.

Sorry for long first post!

@WasItMeantTobeLikeThis congratulations on your amazing loss!! Are you feeling better with those 3 stone gone? I'm not quite at 3 stone yet, started in Dec, but looking forward to that milestone. Then I'll also still have another couple to lose if I want to get to my stretch goal.

My doctor-led prescribing clinic is keen to keep patients on the lowest dose of this drug that works for us - as for any other drug. I'm a bit surprised by some of the UK pharmacies wanting to rush patients up through doses when they're losing well. But policies seem to vary, so you might want to find one that's more flexible?

On the other hand, if suppression is waning, perhaps going up is sensible?

The information I've been given is that the brain effects (for me that's not desiring unhealthy food, being drawn to healthy stuff, finding it easier to ignore food) are lasting as long as you're on the drug. Your body doesn't get used to the drug from that point of view and the effects stay the same. But it does get used to and adapt to the gastric effects, the slower emptying etc, so those can wane over time, and increased doses can be needed.

Maybe it would be good to find a pharmacy that offers someone you can talk to, so you can have a consultation and discuss how to get the best out of the medicine while you're losing your last couple of stone? You've come such a long way and it might be good to have a chat with a pharmacist who's specialised in this so you get the effects you want from now on and feel more supported. On the pharmacy discussion threads people seem to have some recommendations.

Pandora71 · 26/03/2025 06:41

I’m sure there are many factors at play here. I had very high suppression from the start and I began on 1.25mg! Certainly not placebo as I struggled to eat at all in the first few weeks. I had also already cleaned up my diet prior to starting.

I had wondered if my relatively small size had something to do with it (read short and spherical!). The recommended dosing is not adjusted by starting weight.

Moier · 26/03/2025 06:49

Like any other medication.. works better for some than others.. we all have different chemicals in our bodies.

PermanentTemporary · 26/03/2025 07:07

I see why it seems odd OP, as the only other drugs that I've had significant experience of are birth control pills and paracetamol, both coming in very standard doses with the primary effect being identical in nearly all women. I guess these drugs are like a lot of others and the primary effect varies far more.

I'm like you - a fairly standard to slow loser, it's taken me 6 months so far to lose 15kg and I have another 13kg to go. To me it is just amazing to feel as if I have some control of my weight. That's it really. The side effects have been horrible at times but I will take it for the results - I still feel healthier overall.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 26/03/2025 07:53

As they say comparison is the thief of joy but I've no joy left this morning but I'm suffering with side effects.

I'm only on day 2 of wk1 and have just had an horrific night of d&v after a very plain dinner of chicken breast with veg.

Starting to feel like it's not worth it.

Miley23 · 26/03/2025 08:06

I think I am going to have to stop due to side effects. I've spent two months on 2.5mg and now had first does of 5mg after one week of 3.75mg. I have felt so ill this week. I don't feel like eating anything as I feel so sick but then I have gastric problems anyway. I can't risk having explosive poos when i have to do home visits for my job. I have had fatigue, aches, headaches, my eyes have seemed blurry. I obviously can't link all this to MJ but it's all worrying me enough to think I will stop soon. I have lost about 1.5 stone in three months but really that's just a drop in the ocean to what I need to lose so I will be sad to have to stop.

MargoLivebetter · 26/03/2025 08:31

Why don't you drop back to 2.5 @Miley23 ? You don't have to increase doses. I did 5 months at 2.5.

I guess I could , the side effects were less on 2.5mg but I didn't have much appetite suppression. On the 5mg I have the appetite suppression but just feel so ill !

@shrinkingthiswinter thank you 😊 Yes, I have actually been considering a different provider for more support. I'll have a look at OP for suggestions.
