Is MJ different to a diet?

I'm currently losing on average 1lb per week on a calorie deficit, no sugar diet.

So far I've lost 8lbs over the 2 months I've been doing it.

Does Mounjaro have any biological effects that are different to those I would experience on the diet I am already on?

I mean things like:

  • rapid fat loss
  • quicker weight loss/losing more lb per week

I don't struggle with food noise so I'm not interested in MJ for that reason. Just wondering if it physically speeds up the process of fat/weight loss.

No it doesn't. It.slows down food leaving the stomach so you feel full for longer and eat less, and it suppresses the appetite and stabilises blood sugar. It works brilliantly to help people who.struggle to diet.

I think there is still a lot we don't understand about weight loss.

The calorie deficit model makes logical sense but all over this forum you can read posts from people losing much faster than is possible to explain from just calorie deficit and also people getting stuck at plateaus despite being in a calorie deficit

There’s the appetite suppression which helps people maintain a calorie deficit.
It can also reduce inflammation and stabilise blood sugars - so you can lose water weight quickly on it at first, and it can ease joint pains which means it can make exercise more comfortable for those who found it painful to walk/run.
Plus I’ve read that it increases neuroplasticity for some which means you can break bad habits and set good ones more easily and is why it’s being tested for its benefits on cognitive health as well as addiction.

A combination of those things can help increase weight loss more than just a calorie deficit.

1lb a week loss is good, stick with it for now and then if you stop losing through calorie deficit then you could try mounjaro. It mainly helps those of us who struggle to lose with dieting due to health conditions and food noise etc

1lb a week is great . Keep on doing it !

If you can lose weight “naturally” without the need for anything extra, that is obviously best.

I think injections are helpful for people who have issues which make it difficult for them to lose weight. Eg. Age, metabolic issues, thyroid issues, other health conditions of various kinds.

Exactly

I lose 1-2 lb per week on mounjaro. I still have to eat less calories and exercise. It just makes it easier for me to achieve this. It doesn't make things happen any faster.

For me, I've always been able to loose weight by cutting calories (well, it's been a bit harder as I've got older! But doable!) My main problem is that I have always regained the weight.

At some point on every single past diet I've ever been on, I've reached a point (long before attaining my goal weight) where I simply can't resist having a treat day. At the time I think 'oh it's just one day' or 'oh it's just one week off', but inevitably it has always spiralled back into falling off the diet wagon and regaining weight. Usually ending up fatter than I was before I started my diet.

Mj is where, from the first time, there is no rebound. I feel so in control and that when my diet ends is up to me, not up to fate. I feel my weight loss is not doomed to end early but instead will end on my terms, when I reach my goal weight or a weight where I feel happily to be.

I am nervous about maintenance and how I will maintain my weight loss, but I know I'm in control. I can choose to titrate down, stay on a low dose, or whatever.

If you can loose weight and reach your goal by following a calorie controlled diet, that's fab! But if you find it's harder as the diet progresses or that you start to regain all the weight, then maybe next time round, you could think about a wl drug. If you can loose weight and keep it off the natural way though, Go you!! That's great 👍
