Mounjaro side effects

I took my second jab almost a week ago on Sunday and this week has been really quite unpleasant! I've had diarrhoea most of the week, imodium didn't seem to help, and yesterday also developed terrible nausea and the burps I keep hearing about. My sleep has been terrible because I'm on and off the loo all night (and have a 16mo who doesnt sleep well). It has really affected my day to day life. Week 1 I had nothing like this and I'm now scared of taking my next jab tomorrow! Did anyone else experience anything similar? I'm worried my body just isn't accepting it. Really hope it gets better! Thanks in advance.

What are you eating?

Darcy86 · 22/03/2025 06:44

On the day it started I had a pesto pasta salad which seemed a bit more oily than usual so I wonder if that was the catalyst. On wednesday I was feeling a bit better but craving salt so I did have some of my husband's chips which I now think was a mistake too! Otherwise I've been sticking to bland foods and yesterday could only manage a banana, a peanut butter sandwich and 2 digestive biscuits for the whole day.

I think your diet might be the issue here!

Anything oily/greasy is a no for me but eating lean protein, high fibre, lots of fresh fruit and veg, and drinking plenty of water totally got rid of any side effects for me. I’m 10 weeks in and 2 stone lighter!

Highly recommend Phizz electrolytes too.

Thank you. Yes the chips were definitely a mistake, the pesto pasta though was fine the week before. Hopefully it's just my body getting used to it but it's really knocked me out this week.

I take my Mounjaro just before I go to bed & I have no side effects. I was taking Ozempic previously and I felt awful with that. Maybe try taking in the evening?

It just sounds like a lot of carbs to me, pasta salad, chips, digestive biscuits, peanut butter sandwich and a banana? Where is the protein? I can only see peanut butter, which is mainly fat. Banana is high in sugar and all the rest is carbs which converts to sugar which is stored as fat. It also causes insulin spikes and crashes, do you find your energy crashes at times?
There are some users that are triggered by fatty, greasy or fried foods and carbs and end up with your symptoms. I've not had pasta in 5 months. I had diarrhoea twice and it was after a greasy fatty burger and half a meatball pizza. Never had these again.
I really advise increasing protein, drinking lots of water and reducing carbs and you will see a big shift in symptoms and weight loss

I haven’t had diarrhoea but I haven’t eaten anything fatty like you describe in your OP.

I eat protein, salad, veggies. Porridge or weetabix for breakfast.

Persevere and hopefully it will improve for you.

Caffeineneedednow · 22/03/2025 19:12

I think it's the carbs. For me they are a big no no on that scale.

I only now have a very small portion of cards with 1 or mabey 2 meals but that is alongside lots of veg and protein.

I don't seem to have an issue with fats and drink full fat milk, Yogurts and also have nuts regularly.

I agree with pp adresss your diet and think more about your meals. Low carb, low fat and high protein with lots of veg.

I had exactly the same at the same stage. Lasted about 6 days in total and no ill effects since, currently on week 5. I had all the suppression and side effects etc that people seem to mention when they go up to 5 or 7.5mg so I think for me it was just the drug getting into my system. I've decided to stay on 2.5mg because it's really working.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I do eat protein, the day example I gave was not usual, it was all I could stomach and I was trying to eat bland foods that would settle the diarrhoea. Yesterday I had Greek yogurt with fruit, a protein bagel with peanut butter, tomatoes and cucumber, and chicken breast with veg and a bit of white rice, and I've still had diarrhoea. It's not as intense as it was but still there. Been going on nearly a week now and I'm due my next jab today but really unsure about what to do. Should I push my jab back a day or 2?

I had the same but in week 1. I half dosed (1.25 /30 clicks) the next time and was a lot better. I then half dosed for weeks and weeks and went up in tiny increments. My whole journey I never made it past 4! Lost 3 stone in 6 months and now I’m off MJ. I think some people are very sensitive to it, and you might want to adjust your dose.
Hope you feel better soon.

Zempy · 23/03/2025 09:06

You are the third person I have come across who had a bad reaction after eating peanut butter.

Could be a coincidence obviously but might be worth eliminating that?

Good luck.
