Active and higher calories with slower weight losses? Me too.

An attempt to find others whose weight loss may be slow by comparison but you know it's because your calories are higher (I averaged around 1700) and I'm pretty active.

I am not going to change anything I'm doing as it's working

Comparison is the thief of joy but that doesn't make reading some posts any easier so finding others taking the scenic but healthy route for them would be great.

I am in a similar camp. I am very active (strength train 5x a week and walk or run c.15k steps a day - a one woman case study in how you can’t out exercise an overly calorific diet). At the start of taking MJ my calories were so low my training really slumped. I lost weight but also energy and felt rubbish. I’ve upped the calories and my training is back on track. I actually put on a kilo in the last fortnight but that may be water weight as much as anything as I am back on creatine.

Overall I have lost 0.4kg on average a week. I started just before Christmas and have about 6kg to get into the healthy BMI range.

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 20/03/2025 09:55

Congrats on your work so far.

My weight loss has also averaged 1/2 a kilo a week. I started in February and have just come to the end of my 4th week.

Did you know the average weight loss per week on the first trial was 1/2 lb a week so we are double that and the participants had higher start weights on the program.

Same here. I'm glad I've found your actually because I've just stumbled across someone on a Facebook page who says she's lost 3 stone in 6 weeks on mounjaro! I needed reminding that's not normal!

Julesni77 · 20/03/2025 10:01

I also take creatine and lift heavy 3 times a week average 12k steps or so
Started 16 weeks ago and have lost 2 stone - I reckon more inches though as people are really starting to notice

I am just about to start on 7.5mg and hoping I can stay there a while - I didn't lost any weight overall in the last 4 weeks up and down but my training is feeling much better and my numbers have not gone down too much

The way I see it I will be on this for life and so am not rushing it - I also have low thyroid and I have a hunch that the jabs are affected my thyroxine absorbing properly - my GP is supportive of my journey and has agreed to monitor me

I also eat 1700-2000 cals a day as I need to fuel my training and the jab has given me the tools to be able to do this!

For the first time in my life I actually believe I can do this!

Stay away from the what I eat in a day threads - some people are barely eating a meal a day!

How long have you been on moutjaro and what is your current dose?

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 20/03/2025 10:46

Great hearing from more people. Welcome!

Is anyone else measuring? I must start doing that.

I'm currently only on 2.5 but I'm going up to 3.75 tomorrow.

The best thing about MJ after years of strength training is that it seems I may have abs emerging. I knew they must be there somewhere 😂

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 20/03/2025 14:25

For the macro counters, I'd love to see hear if you find going below about 35‰ (140g) carbs, do you feel dizzy or tired?

I have noticed this more on mounjaro and am surprised. However I was also probably underestimating my carb intake previously which doesn't help.

OP posts:
FatGirlLosing · 20/03/2025 18:26

I find it tricky getting enough carbs in as by concentrating on protein I can get full before getting to my carbs IYSWIM! This definitely causes tiredness. I was also getting dizziness at the start of MJ.

Lola50 · 20/03/2025 19:51

Fantastic to find this thread. Thank you.
I find the calorie-counting posts really hard to read. I have struggled with food obsession for years - I know the calorie content of everything at this stage - so the loss of food noise on MJ for me has been fantastic. I too am seeing this as a (very) long-term project for better mental and physical health. Glad to join you all here

AmythestBangle · 21/03/2025 08:16

I alternate at the moment, one week I strictly count calories (on Nutracheck) and the next I just eat whatever I feel like (although i am mindful about getting enough protein). I still lose every week but it's usually around 1lb on the non-counting week and 2lb on the counting week. I am happy with that, I am still going to reach my goal before the time I want to (daughter's wedding in the summer).

User37482 · 21/03/2025 08:28

Yup started exercising again, probably averaging 1600-1700 but I’m short, thyroid issues gained a couple of pounds (most likely water retention) but I was a slow loser before as well. But I think it’s going to slow right down (maybe quarter to half a pound a week). I’m fine with that, I care more about gaining muscle mass right now and can’t go too low on food because I need it for recovery.

Welcome! I calorie and macro count. However it's important everyone finds a way that works for them.

Lovely to hear from more people making similar higher calorie and activity choices. It helps a lot.

Totally relate. Do you track macros? What is your protein /carb /fat split?

30/50/20 - works out at 124g of protein which is roughly right for my weight (78kg). That’s based on 1700c

Our numbers aren't hugely different.

I've had a 2lb whoosh in the last four days. I was hoping it'd happen but I'm still glad to see it. Now down to 78.9kg.

Next weight goal I'll be glad to see is 75kg as I have a set point around 77.5kg that I've bounced back up from several times over the last 6 years. Onwards and downwards.

What activity are people doing this weekend?

I have a hike today and tomorrow I've promised myself I'll get back to my core and pelvic floor program. I need to do this so I can go back to weight training and running.

I am quite intrigued what Mounjaro does to visceral fat. I'm 2.5 lbs off my recent lightest weight but this evening I had to put another notch in my belt as it was too big and my jeans are at least an inch looser around my arse/saddle bag area.

Big gym session (lifting yesterday) and also have a long walk planned for today.

OntheTrainX · 24/03/2025 19:51

I eat around 1900 cal daily and do a lot of exercise. I lost lots of ( water) weight in week one and since then have been averaging lower weekly losses but I’m very happy with it. And the visceral fat thing is flippin’ brilliant!

ivegotthekeyivegotthesecret · 27/03/2025 08:55

I agree about the visceral fat @OntheTrainX I will be interested to see what happens when I come off Mounjaro but that's not for a while yet.

In case anyone uses Oushk they've just released a code of BDAY22 for £22 off.

I'm interested to know know what dosages people are on and what your plans for increasing or sts.

Higher doses lead to more weight loss on the trials and I wonder if higher doses will end up making more of a difference as we get closer to goal weight.

I'm currently on 3.75 and will continue that for a few more weeks at least. I'm certainly in no rush to increase but am aware there can be advantages and disadvantages...

I feel like one of the few who doesn't love being on Mounjaro.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad it's getting me through some set points I've struggled with for years but I don't like being on any medication unless I have to be.

And I don't have to be on this in the sense I'm making the choice to go on it.

My SIL had a posh afternoon tea yesterday so I purposely let my last dose run for a couple more days. I half enjoyed the afternoon tea but it was harder than normal to just be in the moment. I only had one glass of champagne, a few sandwiches and a small cake. I love good food and I was worried about my stomach turning on me.

I've made a draft plan as far as August for what dose I will take. I should be close to goal by then so I have also planned how to drop down for the last month or two.

On the training front, I'm finding my flexibility programme difficult but in a good way. I need to wake my body up.

Hope everyone is having good weeks, not just food and training but life too.

Another NSV was realising I didn't need to delete any "favourites" that had automatically saved in our supermarket app after impulsive eating.

I also tweaked my macros last week to ensure carbs were at least 170g and cals just over 1700 meaning that now I'm not getting light headed. Much relief!
