Weight loss injections

I am considering weight loss injections, I just meet the threshold. If you have experience of them:

Which one do you use?
Where do you get them?
Have you had any side effects?
Has anyone come off them or are you on them forever?

Thanks

I use ozempic. I get it from a pharmacy with a prescription (not in UK, so that part may not be relevant).

Side effects for me have been constipation for a day or 2 after each injection, nausea if I eat too much.

I had a bad bout of nausea (and possibly a stomach bug in hindsight) and stopped taking it after 4 months and regained the weight I had lost plus another 10lbs over about another 8 months. I have recently restarted but in a lower dose and am losing weight more slowly and hopefully sustainably. I’ve made peace with the idea that I will either always use it or will wean myself off very slowly. Just stopping cold turkey was disastrous for me.

Despite my somewhat negative experience first time around I did decide to try it again and be more mindful of diet and lifestyle, as well as arm myself with much more crowd sourced advice. The first time I tried I didn’t know anyone else who had used it and my GP seemed fairly clueless too. I was not well informed. No idea about protein or hydration as ways to minimize side effects. However, I could really tell it was still helpful once I didn’t have it. The rebound was stark.

I truly do believe it’s a phenomenal tool for the right demographic. But that doesnt mean it’s always easy. I think it’s important to be honest about that. I’ve weighed it up and I still want it.

Visit monj.co.uk and check prices. They have lists of discount prices, full prices and ongoing support options. There's loads of info on the weight loss injection boards including a thread about maintenance.

Which one do you use? Mounjaro
Where do you get them? Ashcroft but there's lots of options
Have you had any side effects? Constipation (cured by daily prunes) and cold (cured with electric blanket). I also have stopped fancying sweet stuff and alcohol. I can take it or leave it. Can't eat too much fatty stuff eg. more than 2 chocolates without feeling sick.
Has anyone come off them or are you on them forever? I've lost 3 stone and need to lose about 2.7 more to be bmi 25 ish. I'm planning to reduce to the minimum to maintain but expecting to be on them very long term. I've transformed my diet and am working on increasing exercise. They're working on a pill I'll switch to for maintenance if I can.

Hope that's useful!

Hi OP, we've moved your thread to our Weight Loss Injections/Treatment board.

I started on ozempic 2 years ago and had a few side effects (when diarrhoea 48 hours after the jab for the first couple of months). Eventually moved to Mounjaro - there was a shortage of Ozempic and I was not able to move up the dosage for 4 m and weight loss plateaued. No side effects on MJ, other than I can get constipated if i don’t drink enough water or wasn’t eating enough.

I lost 6 st on total before starting to ‘titrate’ down (ie gradually reduce dose). I’vee kept it off for 6m so far without issue (infact lost an addition 4 pounds). I am on the cusp of deciding to stop it all together or remain on a low dose.

Aside from the weight loss benefits - reduced medication for thyroid, improved blood test results for cholesterol, fasting bloods etc, reduced/nonexistent joint and back pain and so on - I also have only had one or two migraines in 2 years (compared to 1-3 a week before), improved focus and more stable mood.

For me, and I appreciate it’s not the same for others, it has been life changing. My now 17yo son has also been taking MJ under the supervision of an endocrinologist and has lost 4stone in 6m - watching his confidence and mood improve, study/exam performance rocket and getting his first girlfriend has been wonderful. I’d not have let him take it at his age, even with a consultant monitoring him, if I wasn’t 200% happy with the medication.

Which one do you use? - Mounjaro is the most commonly used but important to research both before making a decision
Where do you get them? safe pharmacies on monj.co.uk
Have you had any side effects? research will tell you this too, side effects are common, you need to try it to see how/if you will be affected
Has anyone come off them or are you on them forever? again individual to each person, many need to stay on them to maintain, others don't - or somewhere in the middle. I would plan for it to be a long term medication and if you dont need it it will be a bonus

kissmyfatass · 10/03/2025 17:29

I've been in mounjaro for 10 weeks and have lost 22kb. Nice and steady but consistent.

Feel a little nauseous sometimes but nothing major.
I use simple pharmacy.

I will stop when I lose another stone

so good to see that you're so reflected on your choices. Learning more about behaviour change could really support you in thriving well on the injections (or even get off them over time). Just a thought :)
