Mounjaro Clicks

Hey all,
I've been on MJ for 16 weeks. The 12.5mg really isn't suiting me. I've been so sick. Physically throwing up. I've only had 2/4 injections out of the pen, so wondering, if I wanted to inject 10mg instead... how many clicks of my pen would that be?

I wouldn't start messing round with it, I've read so many threads where people have miscounted or miscalculated doses and fucked up.

10mg is 80% of 12.5mg (10/12.5 = 0.8). A full dose is 60 clicks on any pen. 80% of 60 is 48 (60 x 0.8 = 48) so you'd need 48 clicks. But check my maths and method before you follow my advice!

While I don't agree with too much messing around with dosing I think it's allowable if you are ill with the higher dose
60 clicks = 12.5mg
48 clicks = 10mg

It is possible to adjust safely, it's just maths!! I've done it fine. Here us a graphic to see how many clicks.

Well that’s terrible advice because she’s physically sick on the higher dose so of course she should take less. With clicks it’s less than a full dose so I’m not sure how she could accidentally take too much. Either way she shouldn’t be taking something that makes her feel like this so it’s either stop it altogether or reduce the dose.

She should speak to the provider if she's unwell on the new dose

10mg / 12.5mg * 60 clicks = 48 clicks for 10mg or 0.48ml in a syringe.

Remember the same as it takes 3-4 weeks to build up in your system it is similar to reduce down to normal 10mg levels too.

But I assume you only moved from 10mg to 12.5mg because 10mg wasn't working for you anymore? So changing back might mean you end up on a dose not working for you again. What is the plan after that?

If 10mg wasn't working you might be best sticking with 12.5mg and getting prescribed anti sickness meds from your provider or local pharmacy until your body adjusts. Provider might also give ideas, common sense ones you can probably work out yourself, such as trying 4-5 smaller meals a day etc.

If 10mg was working and there was no reason to move up other than you had bought the pen, going back to 10mg and hoping it still works is a good plan. No point contacting your provider, they can't advocate using a pen outside the prescribing guidelines as while it is safe to take a reasonable adjusted dose such as 10mg from your 12.5mg pen, it is a risk for those who get the maths wrong and/or are not sensible and methodical about adjusting doses.

If the prescribing guidelines were to advise using clicks then it would be part of the prescription. They are absolutely not recommended. If you cannot manage on a particular dose then reduce to the lower dose. Of course everyone thinks they can do no harm and it’s all about saving money but I swear to god so many people playing with their health. As I always say should you alter you chemotherapy drugs, no, I didn’t think so. Just do as prescribed and take the financial hit, again if people can’t manage without scraping out the “golden”dose they shouldn’t be on it.

Should you take half a dose of aspirin if you have side effects from a whole one and the half works? Yes. It’s entirely different from chemotherapy because the chemo dose is needed to treat the cancer and without it it the cancer won’t be treated (although in some cases doctors actually will reduce the dose). Lots of doctors advise reducing doses to minimise side effects. Why would you buy a whole new pen rather than taking a little less each time?

There is a huge difference between chemo and Mounjaro so that comparison is just absurd.

And denying life saving medication to those who desperately need it, that the NHS will not provide anytime soon, and they struggle to afford privately when a perfectly safe 5th dose could make all the difference is fucking heartless.

You stick exactly to the guidelines if that is what you prefer and you can afford to do, let others get on with making very low risk and sensible adjustments if they need to, or if you are aware of a specific risk share it so they can do their own risk assessment and they will bear the consequences of their own decisions.

There are many adjustments I do not agree with like extending the use of an open pen by many weeks etc and I will say that it is not something I am comfortable doing and why. But, no one is interested in rants like your post, they are so ridiculous they are just counterproductive.

This rant is so irrelevant to my situation 😂. If you actually read my problem, you'd see it wasn't about saving money 😂😂. I've already brought the more expensive pen... the 12.5mg. I've been going up a dose every 4 weeks, as my prescription recommends. Regardless of the price increase.
But this new one is making me physically sick so I was just wondering the clicks to make it 10mg. To make myself feel better. Not to save money. Comparing it to chemotherapy is wild 😂

You MUST contact your provider and must follow the instructions. If you can't put up with the side effects, you MUST buy a new 10mg pen to take 10mg and bin the remaining 12.5mg!

PS. Going up a dose every 4 weeks for weight loss (not diabetes) is, in my opinion, a poor recommendation that only some pharmacies follow. Most patient led pharmacies recommend and/or support sticking to the lowest effective dose for as long as it is working for you, no point spending more or risking side effects, or running out of doses to go up to too soon especially for anyone expecting to be on the medication for a long time.
