Only 5lbs in a month

LennyBalls · 08/03/2025 18:35

I'm doing everything right. Calorie deficit, plenty of water etc but I have only lost 5lbs in my first month. Is it not working for me ? I have lost more without Mounjaro. Usually 5lbs in the first week let alone month.

I am on 2.5mg. Just about to go up to 5mg. Maybe that will work better ?

You've lost 5lbs. How is it not working for you? You understand that 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose?

Happypeoplearehappy · 08/03/2025 19:08

If you view it as a two year journey that is best. Steady, slow but sustained Weightloss. How much would you like to lose in total?

Doggymummar · 08/03/2025 19:11

That's a great loss. It's an appetite suppressant. You still have to do all the things you would usually do when dieting. 3 litres water, exercise, 3500 cal deficit for every pound you want to lose.

faffadoodledo · 08/03/2025 19:13

if you were doing slimming world or something similar that's all you'd lose. I think that's a reasonable amount. try weighing out 5lbs of sugar or flour - it's a lot!

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 08/03/2025 19:15

That's 60pounds/4 stone in a year! How much have you got to lose. This is a great start! It means it's working!

LennyBalls · 08/03/2025 19:21

I have about 7 stone to lose

Quite normal. I lose 1-2lb per week but sometimes I lose nothing.

ive lost over 3.5 stone over 7 months.

Adelstrop · 08/03/2025 19:54

Some people respond well to 2.5 mg, others don't. With luck, 5 mg will be better for you. But ultimately, 5 lbs in a month is a good, steady loss. What MJ will help you do is stay on course for the long haul, ie it will help you stay at a calorie deficit.

Squeakpopcorn · 08/03/2025 19:59

I think the key is you notmally lose 5lbs in the first week. The aim is to never need a first week again.

I have lost five stone now in two years on MJ, it's an average of less than a pound a week, but they all add up. I have the same left to lose. I don't want to be one of the fast losers who needs surgery on the loose skin afterwards as I can't afford it. Another 10 lb and I will no longer be obese. You are in it for the long haul

Marchintospring · 08/03/2025 21:19

I’d say you are still eating too much.

With 7 stone to lose you are right that a regular diet would shift weight quicker.
I think hopefully 5ml will make a difference. My friend noticed the weight coming off at 7.5ml but hadn’t seen much happen before that.

How can you possibly say she's eating too much with such confidence? She's clearly in a calorie deficit. Telling her it's not a big enough calorie deficit is shitty ED promoting behaviour.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 08/03/2025 21:36

A loss is still a loss. I've lost 2 stone in 6 months. I see it as a journey not a race. Ok it's frustrating when you hear people losing 2 stone in 2 months. But the way I look at is that I'm not starving myself, my skin has time to shrink back and the slower I lose, the more likely I am to keep it off

Don’t be daft.
At 7 stone overweight you would expect at least 2lbs a week. And that’s doing it slowly.

The trick is going to be eating what a 9 stone person eats, not eating a bit less than someone at 16 or 17 stone.

Eating like a not over weight person is not having an eating disorder.

LennyBalls · 09/03/2025 05:45

I definitely not eating too much.

I think it's really scary that you think it's not working when you've lost 5lbs in a month! Have you achieved that before without it?

What crap advice. 1-2lb a week is good loss. There's no rule that says she should be losing 2lb every week. And your advice about eating what a 9 stone person eats is also crap. She should be eating in a deficit, which she is. Telling her that deficit isn't big enough is absolutely diet culture ED promoting rubbish.

uggmum · 09/03/2025 06:41

2.5 is a therapeutic dose. It gets your body used to the drug. Any weight loss on this dose is a bonus.
As you move up you should lose more weight
Saying that I have had times where I have stalled.
But I make a few adjustments to exercise and calorie intake and it starts up again.

I have lost 4.4 stone so far.

I have about 7 stone to lose

By Xmas you’ll be nearly half way there with a 5 lb a month Weightloss. It is a two year programme for most people.

It is better to see this as a change for life slow and sustained so you ever have to face losing 75 lbs ever again.

Keep going. You will get there.

SevernWonders · 10/03/2025 21:58

The safest way to lose weight is to go slow and steady, it avoids the nasty side effects like pancreatitis, hair loss, muscle loss etc

5lb is a great start, of course the drug is working for you.

thislifer · 11/03/2025 23:33

I think you have to adjust your expectations, the jab isn't melting fat, it's suppressing your appetite (if it's doing it's job - some people just don't get that effect)

It's not a magic wand melting fat away while you sleep, so you are going to have to take a more positive and holistic view.

You've lost weight that you wanted and needed to.
You don't seem to have any side effects? Therefore this feels longterm and sustainable.
Moderate longer term weight loss will start you normalising the amount you eat verses the amount you need to eat. Yo-yo dieting is rubbish for this.

Are there any other positives you can see in your diet & lifestyle since being on the drug? If not, could there be if you tried to implement these?

LennyBalls · 12/03/2025 19:10

Thank you all very much for taking time out to reply.
I think you're all absolutely right about having to change my mindset. I am still in the lose it fast mindset.

This is for the rest of my life.
