Mounjaro providers

I've ordered my first Mounjaro pen this week and it is a massive stretch to be able to afford it but I need to lose some serious weight.
Can I change providers each month to make use of the new customers discount codes?

4 weeks as there are 4 doses in a pen.

If you do decide to proceed, one thing to bear in mind is that your spend on food will probably reduce. If you are on a tight budget I appreciate there may not be any wriggle room anyway but I know I and other have found spending on things like coffees out/snacks/takeaways is cut back. It's not just me, it's like a halo effect for the rest of the family too (or laziness tbf - if I dont bother they can't be arsed).

This month (first full month on mj) I noticed a reduction of over 100 quid in our food bill.

Apologies if I am speaking out of turn but something to think about perhaps

I haven’t noticed a massive difference in food costs. The foods I have cut out are the low cost carbs eg pasta and sweet treats eg custard cream.

You can change providers monthly but I'm not sure if you'll then have trouble getting it prescribed when your bmi drops to 27. Whereas same prescriber will continue your journey to 25 and for maintenance.
I may be entirely wrong.

Re cost, I'm spending a lot less on food as the regular wine, crisps, ice cream etc binges don't happen anymore. I reckon some weeks I was spending £50 on crap. I've all but stopped drinking alcohol so no more weekend pub trips at £6 a pint etc.

SilenceInside · 08/03/2025 11:28

Generally, as long as you can prove your prescription history, then you can still move providers. And you can move to a prescriber that you intend to stick with longer term when your BMI gets down to the 27 to 30 range, but swap around up until that point to take advantage of available discounts.

Thanks everyone, my bmi is 36 so a lot to lose 😔
If I change providers, will I have to start on 2.5 every time?

No, you tell them as part of filling out the consultation form what dose you are currently on and then they should offer you the choice of the same dose, or one higher and one lower. You usually have to upload evidence of your previous prescription eg a photo of your medication box with your named prescription label visible. So keep the boxes!

There is officially 4 doses/weeks in each pen. But if money is an issue, there is enough "spare" liquid left in each pen for a full 5th dose that many people use. The pen locks after 4 full doses so you need to buy syringes to extract/inject it.

You can provide evidence of previous prescriptions to a new supplier.

Also be aware not everyone has to move up the doses, some respond well at 2.5mg for several months, bear this in mind as some providers imply you should keep moving up. It should be your decision depending on how you respond.

I have stayed on the lower doses for over 7 months now. For me (everyone responds differently) the low dose is enough to switch off the obsessive food noise and cravings and helps give me enough suppression/satiety, with some willpower, to stick to my calorie target (started with BMI > 40 now BMI 32)

Thanks for such helpful advice.
I ordered from medexpress on Monday and it was approved Tuesday but still hasn't been dispatched. Didn't realise it would take so long. Wishing I'd ordered elsewhere
