Can you move on to 5mg after 3 weeks

Hi there looking for some advice I am
on 2.5 and took my 3rd one. I have no side effects at all and no suppression either feel like I am doing it all based on will power and it’s not easy. I have the 5mg pen and I wondered if I could just skip my last 2.5 and move straight onto 5mg in hope for some decent suppression. Or do I need to take the full 4 doses of 2.5mg before I change.
TIA

Just take the bloody medication as prescribed

you can of course ignore this comment and take double, half, the whole damn pen if you like, but would you do that with any other prescribed medication? I rather think not

I have no idea why a bunch of non medically trained people think they are qualified to give medical advice, but they do and no doubt will be along shortly

Well, nothing is there to stop you, so of course you could. I wouldn't though, for several reasons.

Firstly, the amount in your system builds each week, as it doesn't fully clear your system before you do the next injection. So you may find that the 4th dose of 2.5mg starts to have an effect. Then the step to 5mg is not such a big step up. Moving from 2.5mg to 5mg is the first time that you increase the dose and the only time that the dose doubles.

Secondly, the 2.5mg dosage isn't intended to produce weight loss in everyone, some may get weight loss but not the majority. So what you are describing is not unusual or unexpected.

Thirdly, it's a waste of £25 to £50 if you skip a dose, depending on how much you spent on the pen.

Fourthly, it's not the intended and researched dosage schedule, which the manufacturers recommend.

You wouldn't do it with other meds so no don't do it. 2.5 is just a starter dose so just let your body get used to it. It's not the end of the world if you don't get suppression for another week for the sake of your health.

Another one who hasn't read up about how these medications work and want instant results..

PinkArt · 04/03/2025 15:01

Can you? Yes.
Should you? Of course not, it's prescription medication FFS.
The dose you are currently on isn't intended to lose weight, it's purely to get your body acclimatised to the new medication you're taking. Re-read the leaflet.

I totally agree with everyone else.
It would be incredibly irresponsible.
Perhaps start working on lowering your expectations, and not focus on instant results. Try & see this as just one aspect of a group of several changes to your life that will help you not only lose weight, but keep it off in the future. Mounjaro is just one of the things, others will include change of diet, tracking calories, portion control, exercise, understanding why you’re overweight in the first place, and also yes - you will need will power. 6 months on & 4 stone down I continue to use will power, & I’m sure unless I want to become obese again I always will.
Allow the drug to build up in your system, it may take several dose increases before you find the one that works for you. It’s not a quick process. Give it time.

Patience.

the drug builds up in your system and suppression will come.

are you watching what you eat and exercising?

PickleSarnie · 04/03/2025 15:55

The 2.5mg to 5 mg is the only time the dose doubles when you move up so it's a relatively big jump.

I was pretty ill when I moved up despite having no side effects on 2.5 mg. Don't rush it. Take it as prescribed.

Cheesesteakyum · 04/03/2025 17:40

I recall it was after the 3 dose my (mild) symptoms started as it started to build in my system. Personally I’d take the 4th dose as normal then when your reordering see where you are with overall weight loss, suppression and symptoms and make a judgement if 5.0 is right for at that time. I ended up extending the 2.5 for another few months as symptoms started to kick in and I didn’t want them to get worse and had seen good weight loss.
