BMI 29 2 stone to lose

Hoping for some perspectives and experiences similar to mine. I lost 2.5 stone before I had kids and I was in my twenties and it was an absolute slog but I did it. Annoyingly first pregnancy was fine and I lost anything I gained rapidly by all the feeding and walks I went on. 2nd pregnancy and toddler - not so much!! And now 2-3 stone overweight heaviest I’ve ever been.

i have tried and failed for 2 years now to lose it and I’m officially fed up. I checked and I can get mounjaro from a few suppliers as my weight is 13 stone 8, I’m 5 foot 6 and I have another health complication which I think is making me just about eligible.

A few things are stopping me - fear of feeling ill on them/ side effects, judgement of using it from friends family, judgement of myself to be honest - why can’t I just stick to diet and exercise.

but then I feel like why not and I could be feeling much more myself fairly quickly and I’d be silly not to do it.

Has anyone used mounjaro in a similar situation and can share experience? I’ve read folk saying they just stick to lose dose 2.5 and that’s been enough.

thanks in advance

I am not in your position, but there is a thread of people who are/were at a similar starting point:

Don't tell family and friends if they might be judgemental, no one else needs to know your personal medical decisions. If the majority of people could stick to diet and exercise then the UK population would not be majority overweight or obese.

I would caution against assuming that you can stay on the starting dose, or that it may only take a couple of months. Everyone reacts differently to the medication, the starting dose of 2.5mg is not intended to produce weight loss for the majority of people. It can do, but it's not guaranteed. Some people need the higher doses before getting any real effect, even needing the 15mg highest dose. A small proportion it never really works for. It could take 16 to 20 weeks to find that out.

Side effects are usually mild and manageable. You have to decide if improving your weight-related health condition by losing weight is worth risking side effects for, alongside getting to a healthy weight.

I started at bmi 32.4, I'm now 28.4, it's taken 5 months to get to this point. I'm currently on 10mg as the doses wear off for me, the longest was 7 weeks on 5mg. If you have a metabolic condition like prediabetes, insulin resistance, pcos, most need a higher dose to work as their own body doesn't produce/utilise insulin effectively.

That’s exactly where I was in November. I’ve been on mj ever since and saw massive losses initially but it’s now 1-2 lbs a week (which feels more stable). I have another 6lbs to go to get into “healthy” bmi and ideally I’d like to lose a stone to feel more comfortable before stopping. It’s the best thing I could have done and I’m so excited to go on holiday next summer and not be fat. I have no plan to be super skinny, I like my curves, but finally feel like me again.

A few things are stopping me -

fear of feeling ill on them/ side effects,

Unfortunately you won't know until you try. Many have no side effects, many have very manageable side effects, some have side effects for a short time while their body gets used to the medication, some have a combinate of all of them. Then there are some who have ongoing unmanageable side effects which are lower in numbers.

judgement of using it from friends family,

You don't need to tell them. I have only told my dh/ds as we are open with each other and don't tend to judge, and also my SIL/DNiece who I am very close too, also both struggle with obesity and we share all our aches and pains with each other. Told them mainly because they can't use WLI and are trying to lose weight and I didn't feel comfortable losing weight and them asking how I was doing it and hiding the truth. I haven't told any other family, friends, or colleagues - my medical information is no-one elses business.

judgement of myself to be honest - why can’t I just stick to diet and exercise

You have a health issue, there are physiological reasons why you can't and others who do not have the same physiological reasons can.

amazing well done. Can I ask what dosage you’ve been on and any side effects?

I’ve followed the rules so have gone up every 4 weeks. My side effects have been minimal - tired initially and very cold (I’m always cold but x2 on mj - heated blanket for Christmas was my favourite gift). If I eat crap - ice cream and pizza I get diarrhoea. But can eat a little of them.

The reason for my weight gain is similar to yours. I lost the weight when I had my first 2 DC’s through diet and exercise so the third time around, i was ashamed of myself because I couldn’t even shed the weight off this time around but I just had to think of myself.
You need to think about yourself really. I only told my DH who is supportive and no other family and friends as I don’t want any judgement so you don’t have to tell anyone that you feel will judge you.
I started exercising and dieting but the weight loss was slow hence why I started MJ and I only planned to buy 4 pens to give me the head start and go it alone. I started the first week of Oct with a BMI of 33.1 and finished 3 weeks ago with a BMI of 24.8. I didn’t expect to get to a healthy weight within that time so I’m glad I started and did. I didn’t go higher than 5mg so the weight loss was slow after the second month but I was happy with that and the only side effect I had was constipation which was managed well.
Now I’m happy , going it alone, food noise is there but I’m enjoying exercising and eating healthily and still slowly losing weight. I’m now a BMI of 24.2 without the jab, plan to get to 23.5 in the next 2 months and then just continue with the healthy habits.

My BMI was just above 30 and I wanted to lose 2 stone to get to a healthy BMI. I assumed I could stay on a low dose. 15 weeks and Ive lost 1.5 stone and moved up to 7.5mg. I'm happy with my weight loss but it's been slow compared to many others. I'm hoping this will help me with maintenance and loose skin etc. and maybe made it less obvious to other people that I've been on the jabs as the perception seems to be it's a rapid fix.

I've told family and close friends. Found a lovely supportive community on here. I've moved from MedExpress to Zava and now Oushk where I know they have a flexibile approach to long term maintenance.

No major side effects. I've had some constipation. I'm happy I took this step otherwise I'd likely be 2 stone heavier and rejoining slimming world!
