Am keen to try Mounjaro as BMI is currently 42!
Do all suppliers need your GP details?
Do they have to let them know they’ve prescribed this?

I’ve seen patients who have mounjaro privately and only know because they’ve told me themselves, so we haven’t been notified by the company providing the private prescription.

There's a letter on my patient portal thing now, sent by the prescribing pharmacy, but I've had no contact from the GP over it, none of their business really.

SackChute · 02/03/2025 14:07

It would actually make sense for them to know tbh to make sure nothing is prescribed that would be contraindicated or, if you became unwell, (pancreatitis or AKI for example) and they would need you to stop it.

Any decent supplier will both ask for the details and inform your GP.

GingerGirl4549 · 02/03/2025 14:13

They do tell your GP, if they don't then they soon will when the new regs come in. It's a good idea to tell your GP as people mentioned above. Is there a reason you don't want them to know?
I know they told mine, I can see on my record...however, ive had to multiple times mention to GP myself that I'm on MJ, they didn't read it

GeometricGillian · 02/03/2025 14:13

My GP is aware, as is a consultant I see at my local hospital. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want them to know tbh, it’s a prescription drug.

WeAllHaveWings · 02/03/2025 14:27

I had to tell my surgery nurse and GP and it is now on my records.

Many ask for permission to tell your GP, and I think with the new guidelines that might be changing soon to become mandatory.

There should be no issue with your GP knowing, unless you have a condition that means you cannot safely be prescribed.

Pharmacies are preparing for new regs so they will need to notify GP. I think it’s a good thing that regulator is tightening up rules. Each one of my pen prescriptions is on my GP medical record.
