Hi,

I really want to start but no idea how or where. Do I need to see GP first? Take blood pressure etc?

Also, I take methylphenidate for ADHD. Is this OK?

Lastly, I looked at 'Voy' and did their quiz. The quiz said I could loose 1 stone 7lbs in 6 months. That seems very slow!

Anything else I need to know?

Thanks in advance x

You don’t need to see your GP nor measure your blood pressure.

You choose a registered pharmacy and complete their questionnaire and declare any medication and medical conditions on there.

People lose weight a different rates. Some at around 1lb per week some much faster.

Read the continuing Mounjaro thread for lots of links and information.

Look at the prices of different Pharmacies here

The first dose may have very little effect and you need to be patient until you increase those enough or you may have bad side effects from the beginning. Everyone is different.

Wegovy and Mounjaro are different and some people suit one better than the other for side effects. Mounjaro has been shown to be more effective statistically.

Just to pick up on your comment about the Voy quiz - do NOT go into this with any expectation of rapid weight loss. I hate the saying but it is a ‘marathon not a sprint’ and thinking you will drop vast amounts of weight very quickly could very well lead to disappointment and your voice could be added to the 100s you see on social media saying ‘I expected to lose more’!!

Your body is unique and will adapt to the medication in its own unique way. Good luck if you decide to go for it!

As PPs say, you choose your pharmacy and then complete their application process.

They will need details about your current height, weight, medical history, medications, GP practice. They will also (or certainly should) ask for photos of you showing the shape of your body, and ID so they can verify t your identity and confirm as best as possible that you need to lose weight.

You'll start on 2.5mg, which you take for a min of 4 weeks, if it's working you can stick on that dose or move up to 5mg, then 4 weeks later you either stick or move up.

You still need to change your diet and watch what you eat, the injection does not do it all for you and if you don't change your diet you may find yourself regretting it due to stomach issues.

Mounjaro works by increasing the amount of insulin you produce, making you more sensitive to that insulin and slowing down your digestion so you feel less hungry.

If you put greasy, heavy food into your digestive system, then slow that system down it will not feel good.

So you need to accustom yourself to smaller portions, you will likely feel less hungry, so need to ensure that what you do eat gives you the best fuel to keep yourself healthy, lots of veg, protein, good fats, vitamins, minerals.....

You need to get into the habit of drinking plenty of water if you aren't already.

You also need to ensure you are doing some form of weight/resistance exercise as weight loss often comes from muscle loss and that's even more the case with WLIs, so you need to be building those muscles alongside losing fat.

Generally what people see is an initial bigger loss in the early weeks, then a more reasonable 1-2lbs a week. The big difference with WLIs rather than just willpower is that you don't feel hungry all the time, and aren't thinking about food all the time, which makes it a lot easier to stick to the diet long term rather than lapsing and bingeing and having to constantly restart.

Thanks for all the replies.

Any recommendations for the best pharmacy to try? I'm worried about quality and don't want to purchase anything dodgy!

I don't know why but I feel really nervous.

I see Boots do the jabs too. Anyone tried from there?

Have a look here monj.co.uk/discount-mounjaro-price-list/ as @BackToWegovy has already linked. All the pharmacies on the list are registered and regulated by the GPhC, the same as Boots.

Boots are currently the most expensive of all the listed providers. For no reason imo. There are loads of cheaper ones, the medication is the same from all of them. There are well known names like Asda, Lloyds, etc that are cheaper. Ones like Pharmacy2U are not well known but fulfil NHS prescriptions - I get my NHS prescription delivered by them. Zava are the pharmacy that Asda use to actually deliver medication to their customers. Just for example.

I think Boots are shocking for charging what they do.

GinNphonics · 03/03/2025 08:42

I've done it! Thank you all. Excited and scared all at once.
