Yesterday, I reached my goal weight and I thought some people here might be interested in my thoughts.
I started at 11.5 stone, BMI 32 (I'm 5ft tall). This was actually down from a high of 12.5 stone following medication - half a stone fell off when I stopped the tablets, and I lost the other half through dieting, but couldn't lose more and remained stuck in the obese BMI range. My goal weight was (and is) 8st.
I started Wegovy 15th January 2024 and reached goal 27th February 2025. Initially, I looked at other people's weight loss on injections and thought I could do it in six months, but subsequently made a conscious decision to try to take it slower and aimed for 1lb loss a week on average. To my amazement, that's pretty much what happened. Whereas, on other diets they would say "if you eat xx calories per day, you will be in deficit and lose xxlbs per week" and it wouldn't happen - with Wegovy, it really did!
I've included a screenshot of my progress via Happy Scale. You'll see a few blips. One was staying with a friend and losing control of my food access and determination to stick to it, on a couple of occasions I stayed on a lower dose when I should have gone up, and I did have a couple of times where I succumbed to old cravings. I've narrowed my emotional triggers to stress and illness.
I kept the dose as low as possible for as long as possible. I counted clicks and got smaller doses out of large dose pens to save money. From August, I started injecting half of my dose twice a week to smooth things out and this has worked for me. I got up to only a 1mg dose, apart from the last two weeks when I needed to shift those final 3lbs and did a bit over that.
I'm a bit scared of coming off. I had always planned to taper - and I actually have three pens left - but I really want to see if I can maintain my good eating habits on my own. So I will play the tapering by ear, and also check out the thread on here.
My successful diet regime was mostly keto. I had a lot of chicken and protein shakes (which I regret having so many shakes because apparently they can cause insulin spikes). The very occasional meal out with chips didn't have long-term consequences, which was amazing. I didn't do much exercise, despite best-laid plans.
I hope you find my experiences useful. Mumsnet was great for me when I started doing this. Good luck to all.
