Where to begin with medication?

Hi everyone,

I’m seriously considering weight loss medication but don’t know where to begin. Have scanned the current threads and so much info. Which websites would you recommend as a starting point?

monj.co.uk/mounjaro-price-comparison-by-monj/

Comparison site for Mounjaro prices, assuming you're thinking of Mounjaro. All the sites on that list are GPhC registered which means they are regulated and above board.

Some suppliers do a subscription model where you are automatically sent out the next injection pen, unless you tell them you want something different. Most wait until you choose to reorder. Some offer coaching and additional support services which some people find helpful. The table on the linked website has a column that indicates this.

Thanks. This is a good start. Not sure what medication I’m looking for really!

Well, there's injections which are Wegovy or Mounjaro. Both are GLP-1s and act in similar ways, although Mounjaro has a dual action on your system where Wegovy doesn't. Wegovy is the name given to the same drug as Ozempic (semaglutide) but it's the branding that is used in the UK for weight loss only. Mounjaro has been shown to produce more weight loss than Wegovy. They both affect your appetite, slow down your digestion and make you feel fuller for longer after eating,

Then there's Orlistat/Xenical which is a tablet. It prevents your body from absorbing fat, and has well known side effects that can be quite unpleasant. Oily stools, and urgency/leaking. It's not as effective as Wegovy or Mounjaro.

I'm also assuming that your BMI is in the obese range?

Fairislesweater · 28/02/2025 17:10

@SilenceInside yes I’m currently bmi 37. I just find it so difficult not just eat everything in sight!

My BMI was 50 when I started with Mounjaro in July last year, it's now about 33 and I'm continuing to lose weight. It's been life changing for me.

Thank you. I’m battling with the idea, I feel guilty about the possible spend, why can’t I be disciplined and do it without. I think some of this stems from finding slimming pills in my mum’s handbag in the 90s when such things were really dodgy! But then I think food can be addictive and we give people drugs to help with nicotine addiction, alcohol addiction etc

On the spending point, our food bill has lowered quite a bit. If you think pens at a lower dose seem to be let's say 120 per month, that's 30 quid a week. I have stopped buying coffees out on work days, less junk and sweets and if we go out to eat (which we do a lot as a family) I don't order as much. I bring in packed lunch for work rather than picking it up from Pret or the food market. I am not going to say it's cost neutral but the incremental cost would probably be less than you think.

Fairislesweater · 28/02/2025 18:29

This is a really good point actually. I pack my own lunch but frequently top it up with trips to the shop, buying food from work canteen etc. today I didn’t intend getting anything extra and ended up spending a fiver

I have just completed the online consult with Juniper. Thanks for the advice - looking forward to a fresh start!

Hi Everyone
I'm really looking to start medicated weight loss. I've looked at juniper. Could someone tell me what the difference is between Wegovy and Mounjaro?

Does Juniper and other medicated weight loss programs ACTUALLY work?

Also what other weight loss like juniper are there and are they legit?

Sorry if any of this hag been covered i did search but couldn't find what i was looking for.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me with my journey

@SargesMissus this guide from Asda Online Doctor is a useful article that explains what Wegovy and Mounjaro are, and what the differences are:

https://onlinedoctor.asda.com/uk/wegovy-vs-mounjaro-vs-ozempic.html

Juniper is a subscription-based service where they will automatically charge you every 4 weeks and send out another injection pen, unless you manually cancel or change the order. Worth knowing before you sign up. There are a couple of other subscription-based services that operate in a similar way. They are often more expensive than ordinary online pharmacies that offer weight loss prescriptions. I personally don't think that the "programmes" they offer are really worth paying a premium for. Often it's just AI chat bots and things like including a set of scales with your first order.

Mounjaro and Wegovy are proven to work, via the clinical trials that have been carried out. You don't need to sign up to a service like Juniper for them to work. There are very many other online pharmacies who will do an online consultation and then prescribe you weight loss medication. There is a price comparison site called Monj (https://monj.co.uk) which lists many of them. All the ones listed there are GPhC registered and regulated, so they will be "legit". The medication is the same wherever you get it prescribed from, so personally I look for the good deals rather than ones that offer subscriptions or additional services.

You also don't have to stick to the same provider every month. You can choose a different supplier and move to get a better deal if you want. It's easy enough to do.

I think it's worth considering what sort of support you need. I believe there is quite a lot of support from Juniper, hence the price point. These additional support suppliers have apps, nutritional advice, clinical check ins and so on. For some people, this makes all the difference.

You might be more like me, who doesn't really want extra support. Just the bare bones jabs and I get on with the rest alone. I know what I should be eating, I just need to limit the amount!

For that sort of service (just the jabs) you can pay less and there are cheaper, very good suppliers. As well as Monj look at https://click.compare/ -
it covers Mounjaro and Wegovy. If you opt for Wegovy it's cheaper, but many people seem to prefer Mounjaro. The CC lists are ordered by review score, but you can also sort by price. My advice is to look at the average price and pick someone with one of the lowest, but with a high review score.

Good luck. I am on MJ and it's been a huge success for me. Slowly but surely weight I haven't shifted for years has gone 👍
