Mounjaro non responder should I swap to Ozempic?

I’ve been on Mounjaro for 7 months. BMI 36. Not lost a single pound.

when I started I decided to follow my hunger (expecting to have non) and gained 2kg which I have had to work hard to lose.

no appetite suppression. No fullness. I ate healthily before and have reduced portion size through will power.

I don’t drink alcohol. Am sugar and upf free.

at this point I am clearly coming to terms with the fact it doesn’t work for me. Gutted. Worth swapping to Ozempic?

I know studies show it’s not uncommon but in real life and on forums it seems very rare .

Are you on 15mg and getting no results? Do you get any noticeable effect at all from the Mounjaro?

It certainly can't hurt to try Wegovy, it's a slightly different medication and it might do something for you.

Moier · 27/02/2025 16:11

Have you gone up to the maximum dosage and not lost anything? What has your consultant provider said? I'd contact them and see what they say first.

Fatandnotsofabulous · 27/02/2025 16:18

12.5mg currently. Taken it slowly as u I have some side effects . Awful awful reflux meaning I have to sleep propped up. I can’t eat in an evening due to that althoigh I am hungry so I could.

interestingly every time I order it I put in the same weight but they never questioned it.

i feel very alone as like everyone else I expected great results and have tried many diets . I feel really miserable tbh .

Are you managing to maintain a calorie deficit, but still not losing weight? Have you contacted your prescriber to specifically ask them about not losing weight?

They should have reviewed your prescription if you hadn't lost a reasonable amount in the timeframe you've been taking it.

Fatandnotsofabulous · 27/02/2025 17:27

They haven’t questioned it.

Im eating at a calorie deficit as best as I can. But like most people taking this I have struggled for year and hoped that this would give me some suppression . I could quite happily go and eat a full 3 course meal and still eat more . I don’t because of sheer will power .

obviously it doesn’t work hence I wondered if a swap might help . Hundreds spent so far for nothing .

I wonder if there's something else going on if you are tracking calories and you are in a deficit but still not losing weight, as that would produce weight loss whether or not you are on Mounjaro.

I think that in your position I would try the 15mg before stopping and swapping to Wegovy. I would also directly message/email your provider and ask them why they haven't tracked that you've not lost any weight and what their advice would be. I would imagine it will be to try 15mg before stopping. I think you'd have to have a short break of a few weeks from the Mounjaro before starting Wegovy.

Fatandnotsofabulous · 27/02/2025 17:41

I know the official line is that t
mounjaro does not cause weight loss by suppressing appetite but everyone I have spoken to appears to be struggling to eat full sized meals on mounjaro. Anyway just my luck . Will push on through for now .

I haven’t lost any weight since august on it though I did in the 3 months prior to that. I’ve been on 15mg for ages. I have no appetite suppression, no side effects, no nausea, no burping. I’ve tried either ozempic or wegovy (can’t remember) before and that didn’t work either.

so today I’ve eaten a banana, a pack of M&S sushi, a yogurt, a slice of toast with avocado and cottage cheese mixed up on it, packet of wotsits. Drunk water. No idea if that’s a calorie deficit or not but it doesn’t seem a lot of food. Bmi is 30.

SilenceInside · 27/02/2025 17:55

Not sure about the "official line" but Mounjaro does reduce appetite by making you feel fuller for longer. For example, this explanation is from the Asda Online Doctor website:

"It works by suppressing appetite, making you feel less hungry.
Mounjaro mimics hormones that naturally occur in the gut after eating, called incretins. Incretins have many functions, such as:

  • slowing down the emptying of the stomach
  • sending signals to your brain that you’re full after eating
  • increasing insulin levels

These combined effects help people feel full after a meal by signalling to the parts of the brain responsible for appetite, making it easier to eat less."

There's a chance that the 15mg might work for you, and you may as well try it seeing as you've got to this point. I hope that it does start to work for you, or that Wegovy works for you instead.

Fatandnotsofabulous · 27/02/2025 18:07

Yes I might as well keep going when I have got this far. It’s puzzling thoigh that I have literally had zero appetite suppression or fullness . I desperately need it.

I really feel.for you @Fatandnotsofabulous

You've done well to persevere this long.

It sucks. I'm sorry :(

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 28/02/2025 13:50

I’m sorry you are having such a hard time, OP. If you have lost no weight at all after seven months in a calorie deficit, and you are sure of your intake and TDEE, I would honestly suggest you ask your GP for bloods to check your thyroid amongst other things before considering a switch to a different WLI.

lostinchaos · 28/02/2025 14:14

What are your activity levels like? I have found that it does take a fair amount of willpower on mounjaro to resist cheating on the diet, but when combined with lots of walking I have consistently lost weight. But I am tracking everything I eat and found that I can eat a max of 1000 calories a day to lose weight and 1200 to maintain weight. I prob have reduced food noise for 48hours and then the rest is down to me. Hopefully if you can put in place a healthy meal plan on the 15ml you might feel and see some of the benefits.

Dozycuntlaters · 28/02/2025 15:51

What do you mean you are at a calorie deficit the best you can? How many calories do you think you eat a day? Are you tracking? I was watching a doctor talking about it the other day who said it is not good to completely surpress hunger, but it should surpress the obsessive thoughts. What sort of things do you eat in a day?

angelinawasrobbed · 28/02/2025 16:02

Which supplier are you using?

Fayziefaye · 04/07/2025 17:02

Hi just wondering if you switched to ozempic in the end I'm at 15 mounjaro, very little suppression, zero side effects wondering if it worked for you to switch?
