Bonus dose, 8mm needles...and being scared 😱

Hi all

I've been on MJ for approx 4/5 months. The 1st month was a bit hit and miss as I really needed to psych myself up each week to jab (I know!) I ended up binning that pen in the 3rd week after going dizzy immediately after the jab, all self inflicted.

Ended up going back on it, as it did really help. I still analyse my stomach each week looking for a non-stretchmark place to inject, instead of just getting on with it. But, generally it's been ok.
Until now....my last pen broke when I did the hard twist for the bonus dose, so was a bit gutted to have to bin that. I've now bought some insulin syringe needles that I've seen recommended on here from Medi UK, but I'm really stressing out as my pen needles are only 4mm, and these are 8mm. I know it's a psychological thing but I fear these so so much. I can't actually even look at them.

If I try the hard twist on this pen and it breaks like before, will I still be able to then insert the syringe to draw out the liquid?

Do I inject straight on or at an angle with the insulin needles?

Any needle phobics out there who are fine on the 8mm needles?

I know I'm a wimp, please be kind.

Just go straight in like you do with the pen. If it seems too long then only put the needle in half way?

CatsorDogsrule · 23/02/2025 16:26

Yes, you can use the syringe if the hard twist fails. No need to inject at an angle with 8mm needles. (12mm needles are still considered subcutaneous and approved by Eli Lilly for MJ use.)

Thank you both.
I'll try the hard twist first, just in case it works.

You can buy a separate 1ml luer lock syringe and 4mm needles from uk medi if you find you can't do the 8mm.

Honestly 8mm is still a tiny needle as the 4mm is really really small….have a look I was pleasantly surprised as imagined a huge long needle….its really not.

I actually find the syringe easier to inject as it plunges easier for me as I find the pen quite awkward especially the first few doses.

Its painless it really is.

Just pinch a really flabby bit for your 5th. I like to inject the back of my arm but as time goes on the only flabby bit I have left is my stomach.

Mysticmaiden · 23/02/2025 21:21

I use a 12mm needle and inject it half way. It actually doesn't hurt at all for me compared to the 4mm needles! The hard twist has worked for me on 2 pens.

I always considered myself to be needle phobic ( have been known to faint when having a blood sample taken) but honestly those 8mm needles are fine and I find them totally painless. You'll be grand OP
