Hello, alongside WLI, should we be taking supplements?

im trying to get out for a walk daily, 10,000 steps (more if possible)
eating healthy alongside lots of veg/salad/protein
i take collagen powder (bovine) daily
2ltrs of water

i just stood in Tescos and the range of multivitamin/cod liver oil etc etc is overwhelming!

can anyone advise please?

Since starting my WLI I've started taking:
A multivitamin
Evening primrose oil
Collagen gummies

I know I don't eat the best so the multivitamin is just helping me cover all bases

Yes, biotin and marine collagen for your hair and ensure you eat enough proteins

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/02/2025 12:51

Entirely up to you! If you feel you are deficient in anything or your diet is lacking if you have strong suppression, then take a supplement.

The NHS suggest we ALL take vit D during the winter so maybe add that. I am in my 50s and have been taking collagen for hair and skin and cod liver oil etc for my knees but did that before MJ.

WeAllHaveWings · 22/02/2025 16:51

I take some hair vitamins and collagen as attempting to sort out my hair loss which started before MJ with peri menopause
Also take a Vit D spray as it is recommended to take vit D, especially in Scotland
Omega 3 and Magnesium as menopausal and it helps with joints and sleep issues

None of these are solely because of Mounjaro. I have some Psyllium husk, but only take that if I start to feel constipated as a MJ side effect again - not entirely sure if it works, but I bought it so use it.

What are you looking for a supplement for?

MissionToSize10 · 22/02/2025 19:14

Idk really but yesterday i ate 650 calories because i didnt feel hungry and forgot to eat. I slapped myself on the wrist for that but didnt realise until bedtime. Im 43 so probably peri myself. Perhaps i should be taking a menopause supplement too?

i just want to be healthy.

I take Glycine (preserves muscle mass), Collagen and Vitamin B complex. (I was already on Vit D and calcium, Omega-3, Optibac and psyllium before I started on MJ).

Bibulous · 22/02/2025 21:35

I take a multivitamin and psyllium husk capsules for extra fibre to help stave off constipation

Well you’re not going to be healthy if starve yourself, your muscles will waste and your hair will fall out, and you will look much much older than your years at goal.

the first thing to fix is your eating.

I know, it was a blip. Wasnt on purpose. Ive had three meals today and ate my calories

Honestly as someone who has finished their journey (BMI now 22), I don’t think supplements will make a massive difference. I ordered a bunch but didn’t see any meaningful difference.

The thing about MJ is that you’re guaranteed to lose weight but it won’t necessarily be in the best way. For example I have lost 5kg of lean mass alongside 15kg fat, and my body fat % now is 27. So MJ hasn’t purely targeted fat mass; plus that still remains quite high. I’m now trying to improve my body composition in the gym.

If I could do my journey again I’d focus less on supplements and cardio. Unfortunately the harder work makes all the difference, such as lifting weights to build & maintain muscle and eating a significant amount of protein to fuel muscle mass. If I had done that before, I may have slowed down my weight loss but my body would probably be more fit and toned. I feel now that the bottom half of my body is toned due to walking but the top half is podgy.

That’s interesting. Thank you. I will start with the weights but also keep the walking going. I might just take a general all round multivitamin then.

I take:

-a probiotic to help with digestive side effects
-an iron and B vitamin complex for energy and hair loss
-vitamin D (pretty much everyone needs to supplement in the UK, especially in winter)
-hyaluronic acid purely for facial vanity!
-high dose vitamin C and zinc for immune support and hair loss again

I'm having a Huel drink daily for protein and it is fortified with vitamins. Also a calcium and vitamin d supplement.

I have been thinking of taking supplements too. But I will also take this on board about protein and muscle mass, thank you!
