I'm wondering if in fact I lost 4.5 stone by will power alone. I know I can and would eat all the crap but by telling myself I can have it tomorrow if I still want it, I don't eat it because I've either forgotten or tomorrow is new day. Can anyone relate?
I've stalled since the beginning of January, A little more alcohol, a couple of puddings, crisps with lunch etc have seen me put on 3/4 lbs and I still have 4.5 stone to lose.
I feel like this is my biggest nightmare because now I'm on the top dose there's nowhere to go. I started in June and weight loss has always been steady but slow. Is anyone else in the same boat and have suggestions to make this work again?

I would imagine its the food you're eating that is making you then want the same food, so you're stuck in a craving cycle.

No matter how powerful the medication, it may not overwrite the physical effects of sugars as you get smaller and your body more used to the medication. This is whats meant by a tool, it can help but its not the only 'solution'

You may need to go cold turkey, cut the puds and crisps, chuck them out of the house right now. It would make me cry! But thats whats needed, see it as poison quite honestly to help you want to reject it rather than eat it. Those packets in the cupboard right now are the obstacles to you achieving your goal, they are sabotaging you

You can bring this back and achieve what you need to

Thanks for the this. It's what I needed to hear. I've stopped tracking my calories but I thought it would be ok because Maunjaro helps you to stop eating so much. I've eaten more rubbish foods in the last week than in the last 6 months and I'm probably thinking I could do with a treat or 2. Well I know I can't, not if I want to keep wearing the size 16's.

Hi ,I'm on 10 mg
And I've had many thoughts I'm just injecting water
I can totally relate to what you say .
However I think my expectations of the drug were to high ,and I expected weight loss to be very quick.
I've also lost 4 stone ,and I've plenty more to loose.
I down loaded the NHS app for weight loss and I never go over 1400 calories a day I track everything I eat and drink .
..I don't snack ,I don't eat anything unhealthy I try to increase protein and reduce fat.
Many a week I've lost nothing weight wise ....and I'm tired,my hair is falling out I'm cold and snappy.and I've started getting pain in my teeth, yet the dentist can't find a problem, and getting daily ..what I think are migraines ..
I've been on it 5 months .

Totally with you, Ive had a sleeve and my bariatric nurses say that you need to keep counting calories to make sure you're not under or over eating (and that your carbs/protein is right). Its wishful thinking to think the intervention/tool (surgery, meds, slimming clubs, podcasts or whatever) are going to fix it, but what fixes it is paying attention to whats going in and out.

I'm still on my MJ journey and started a little after you, in July, although not yet above 10mg.

When did you move up to 15mg and how had your suppression been before January, when you started stalling?

So my second injection at 15mg is tonight and I think its because I've gone up that I'm worrying about it all. I'm averaging 2lbs a week so that makes me very happy on reflection but for the last 5 weeks I've gone up and down 1-2lbs and its so annoying when I'm on the cusp of new unchartered stone.
For the first 3 months I followed the NHS weightloss programme online called Glogi. It was my first step in the getting help from the Dr. I think I might have to re-start it if I'm allowed or use my fitness pal religiously.
Like you I stayed on the lowest dosage I felt I needed but other peoples weightlosses, as great as they are, are making me panicky.

Weirdly I had a gastric band 20 years ago. Never lost more than 2 stone. I was told then that weightloss is a series of life long changes that you work on everyday. Somewhere over the years I forgot about the hard work. How are you getting on the with the sleeve?

Yes hard work! Best thing Ive done, wouldnt have lost the weight without it, but I have to keep on working at it. Unlike a 'diet' or the injections, I dont have a day off from it!

IrisPallida · 20/02/2025 18:56

I think this might stem from the simple fact that MJ does not work by 'suppressing appetite'. It works by increasing satiety.

It is only in the first few weeks or months that appetite suppression may happen as a side effect. Those that rely on it and lose weight by taking the opportunity to starve themselves into rapid weight loss rather than the advised, safe and healthy 1-2lbs a week may find the rug pulled from under their feet when it wears off.

MJ offers the amazing opportunity to learn that it is possible to eat a nutriious -and delicious! - calorie counted meal and to be able to stop eating when it is finished and feel satisfied by it. You can literally eat far better than at any time in your life and lose weight, without the urge to binge or overeat and without the constant cravings that constitute food noise.

If you can find your way back to calorie tracking and making really good, protein rich and tasty meals, then you can find your mojo again. It is important to eat your calories and not skip them, because deprivation triggers bingeing, both psychologically and physiologically - and it makes you tired and feel unwell which also triggers bingeing.

2lbs a week average is the ideal, healthy loss, so you are doing brilliantly!

I know a stall is demoralising, I've just finally broken through a stall and a stone barrier in the last week. It will happen for you soon too.

You aren't in a race against others. This is your journey and you are doing great!

Glorybox2025 · 20/02/2025 19:03

I had a bad time last year and for a few days I descended into attempting to use shit food as a comfort as per old habits. It didn't make me feel better obviously and for days after my binge I felt almost no suppression from the Mj and was pretty devastated. Thinking about it it seems obvious that if you eat food that causes insulin spikes then the medication is not going to be very effective as it's fighting against what you are doing. I corrected by cutting out sugar again and having a week of eating well, good sized meals high in veg and protein, and after not too long it started working well again. Don't despair, but you can't expect Mj to do the work for you especially if you're sabotaging it with poor food choices.

QueenOfHiraeth · 20/02/2025 19:22

@SparklingBettie I think I would echo what others have said. I try to avoid processed food as much as possible (other than protein bars/shakes), keep protein over 100g/day, drink plenty of fluids and I do still log everything to keep me on the straight and narrow as I know my own history of convincing myself I'm following the rules when I am not.
Like you I have a gastric band but had regained over 3 stone of my loss with it so am now using MJ to try to address that. Remember 2lb a week is a good weight loss, my loss is not that fast but I reassure myself that my body is adjusting with the slower pace and giving me a better chance of maintaining in the longer term.

@Springsunflower If you use TikTok, have a look at Dr Jones DC. He is an American doctor who runs lifestyle medicine clinics and he talks about people going into "zombie mode" being cold, tired, unwell, losing hair, etc which he says is a sign of too few calories and how to address it

SparklingBettie · 22/02/2025 15:20

Just wanted to give a mini update. I've re started my logging of food and had the biggest shock of how little I should in fact be eating. How did the portions creep up? Anyway, I'm feeling stronger the last 2 days and I'm hopeful for a good week. Thank you all so much for taking time to comment and for giving me a gentle reality check.
