Feeling almost harassed by MedExpress

MotherTuckinGenius · 18/02/2025 12:03

I am due to start a 5mg pen tomorrow after my first month on 2.5. For the past couple of weeks I've received several emails requesting that I order my next 7.5 pen and today a text message. Obviously I don't want to order a 7.5 yet when I haven't even experienced using the 5mg.
Is this normal with MedExpress? I'm a bit worried that if I don't 'comply' and order now they may cancel my prescription.

PaintDecisions · 18/02/2025 12:07

It's just an automated email. Don't over think this.

The only think they may ask why a delay if you have a longer gap than a month or so between orders in case you're buggering about with dosing etc.

gimmemounjaro · 18/02/2025 12:13

Yes they start reminding you two weeks after they sent the previous pen. Quite handy if you want to build a little stockpile for whatever reason (like going on holiday or worried about Christmas post). But just ignore until you're ready to decide on the next one.

scanni · 18/02/2025 12:26

O just order what I want, chick has been 2.5mg since October. The emails are not personal they are just standard stuff. They don't actually care what you order.

MotherTuckinGenius · 18/02/2025 12:39

Ok thank you that makes sense because my 5mg pen has been sat in the fridge for around two weeks and will be opened tomorrow. Was just a bit worried with the tighter regs coming in around prescribing that "I'd miss the boat" if I didn't reorder straight away!

IHateMozzies · 18/02/2025 13:11

Same! Automated email after 2 weeks, followed by a text message!

I’m holding out until nearly 8 weeks as I’ve ordered my last two pens early and don’t want a stockpile!

Queenofthejabs · 18/02/2025 13:26

So many people have left them after the first low cost dose they must be noticing, when I left them I got one reminder and that was it, now they’ve really stepped it up.

As they use the discount to lure people in, they then ramp the price up as you move up the doses, sadly even the initial discount only takes them to the same price as the others. The higher dose pens are extortionate, so they need people to stay, course unless you can get someone to use your code, which I guess is very difficult now as so so many of them.

they also don’t do maintenance, will cut you off hard at 23.5 bmi and give erroneous information, treating wegovy and mounjaro the same, ie two years max, when its lifetime for mounjaro and 2 years for wegovy.

overall it’s a cash cow for them, so I’m not surprised they’ve taken to hassling to make sure people stay and pay more for the higher doses.

Doesn't everywhere raise the price for higher doses then?

All raise the price, but med express are with the higher priced. hence why they stopped the price matching for all outlets, and moved it to just a handful at the top end. Check the commonly used ones say up to 12.5. You can buy much much cheaper.

prices are in this site.

Thanks for the table, I haven't seen that before. I am anal enough to have done a little comparison - at 15mg, 13 pharmacies on the list are the same as MedExpress (within a quid or so). 13 of them are cheaper and 34 of them are more expensive. So it seems like they are one of the more reasonable ones?

That's quite reassuring as I have stayed with them mainly because I can't be arsed to shop around and faff about with photos etc, but also because the service has been really good. I had a vague idea I might be paying over the odds for that but now see I'm not really. I might go elsewhere if I want to (and can manage to!) go lower than BMI 23.5 and also stay on MJ, but I don't imagine I will. The market might look quite different in a year or so anyway I guess.

Yes, hence why I said look at the most commonly used doses, up to 12.5. I suspect that’s where the majority of people are buying and not 15, so that price is fairly irrelevant, if you do that comparison, you will see a different story. Can I ask why you picked 15 when I had already pointed out to look at the more commonly used doses where they will make the most money?

Tohaveandtohold · 19/02/2025 03:44

@Queenofthejabs you clearly have a thing against med express because from that table, even for lower doses of 7.5, etc, their cost is still on par with lots of other companies and there are more expensive ones like boots which some people still prefer to use so not sure what your point is.
I’ve been off the jabs now but used med ex for the 4 jabs I bought. The last one was the second week in December. They sent me an email 2 weeks later asking me to reorder but I didn’t and I’ve not had any emails from them since then. That’s hardly harassment is it?

gimmemounjaro · 19/02/2025 04:37

You said they ramp up the prices as you go up the doses and the higher dose pens are extortionate, so I thought 15mg would show them at their worst. Plus it was the last column so easier to read. And I am on 15mg so it was the most useful comparison for me personally.

Perhaps you are right though and their 12.5mg pen is extortionate while the 15mg pen is one of the cheaper ones. I'll have a proper look later if I've got time.

GingerGirl4549 · 19/02/2025 06:25

It's normal from them. I was with them from August to January and they've done it the whole way through. Just carry on as you want, they are just automated messages. Moved to pharmacy2u for my current pen and had zero messages at all since purchasing 3 weeks ago, I actually missed the reminder messages

Fair enough but what I said was “Check the commonly used ones say up to 12.5”.

Yes, I feel they are very poor, and the constant spamming of codes is annoying. They are more expensive, than many others as you move up the doses, and their advice is erroneous. This doesn’t mean they are the most expensive.

I am always surprised when people defend a pharmacy so much, when they are not the cheapest, have been warned at least twice by the regulators on how they behave with promotions and using influencers, give erroneous advice, don’t do maintenance but hard cut off at 23.5 and the spamming of those codes is the most irritating thing of all. For me there is much better out there.

MotherTuckinGenius · 19/02/2025 07:42

Can anyone recommend an online pharmacy that is cheaper or at least the same price as MedExpress but will also prescribe maintenance?

Good news @Queenofthejabs I have checked 12.5mg now - 12 pharmacies selling at the same price as MedExpress, 15 cheaper and 32 more expensive, almost exactly the same as the 15mg figures. Perhaps you disapprove of them having 12.5mg and 15mg at the same price? But 42 other pharmacies also do this, the vast majority.

I went down as far as 7.5mg and MedExpress's 'worst' performance seems to be at 10mg, where 27 other pharmacies are cheaper, but this is still less than half I'm afraid.

Also 10mg seems to have the prices more bunched together. Lots of those 27 are just a bit less. So if you look at who is "much cheaper" as you put it, say at least £20 cheaper than MedExpress at 10mg, there are only 10 that fit the bill.

Looking at the averages - MedExpress are almost exactly at the average price at 10mg and are below average at 7.5mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.

I don't know what your beef really is with MedExpress but you can stop worrying about their prices at least. They are more reasonable than most.

Wow. You really like them. Fair play. I’ve explained my beef. But honestly I’m really not that invested as you are. Genuinely,

gimmemounjaro · 19/02/2025 08:02

If this is aimed at me, I don't care about MedExpress and have no loyalty to them at all. The claims the PP made did worry me because that's where I get my MJ, so I was grateful for the table of prices. However those claims just don't stack up, MedExpress are not extortionate, not even in the top half price-wise. Misinformation like that annoys me, what can I say 🤷‍♀️

I've had good service from them, no erroneous advice, not been bothered by spamming, they remind me at 2 weeks and again a week later. I have spoken to them about maintenance and I'm happy for now with 2 years at BMI 23.5. If I lose that much I doubt I'll want to go any lower, but if I do and the policy is still the same by then, and I want to stay on MJ, or if I want to stay on it longer than 2 years, I'll go elsewhere.

gimmemounjaro · 19/02/2025 08:05

No - I have no feelings about them, I chose them at random, didn't even use a discount at the beginning and I'm still with them because it's easier than changing. But I'm not a huge fan of people scaremongering with false information. You said your beef was their extortionate prices, but either you haven't actually looked at the table that you posted, or you're lying for some reason, because they're not extortionate 🤷‍♀️
