A month of mounjaro and nothing is happening

Just done my fourth 2.5 injection and I’ve had no appetite suppression at all since I started. I get the nasty taste in my mouth so I know I’ve injected properly. I tried Ozempic when it was available and that worked for me but I can’t get it now. I’ve not lost any weight and my appetite is the same. If anyone else has experienced this does it get better on the next dose? My overeating is linked to ADHD but I’m not on any medication for that. Would appreciate any advice.

I wouldn’t give up until you have tried a month on 5mg. Looking back I realise I didn’t have much appetite suppression on the starter dose. But I also didn’t have the nasty side effects.

2.5mg is a really low dose - some people do feel the impacts, but some don’t

9ToGoal · 15/02/2025 13:06

Some people don't lose weight until 10mg. The people losing weight on here at 2.5mg were obviously massively over eating to have such a huge calorie deficit that they lost a stone in a month or are starving themselves or are lying to make others feel worse.

2.5mg is to get your body used to the medication. Check your TDEE and make sure you eat 500 to 600 calories less than that every day or a weekly deficit of 3500kcals to lose about a pound a week. You won't lose weight on the injections if you are still over eating. You might feel very sick though.

@9ToGoal such a sweeping generalisation, insulting, and simply not true.

@batterypark 2.5mg is really just to get your body used to the drug. Some people do respond well to that dose, but it is completely normal to not notice any effect until 5 or even 10mg. Don't be disheartened yet.

batterypark · 15/02/2025 13:22

Thank you so much for your responses.

I didn't get any result until 10mg. 3.5 stone down now, stick with it.

This is both rude and wrong. I had suppression from day one on 2.5, which I count myself incredibly lucky for as there are thousands of people who's experience has sadly been more like the OPs.
I haven't starved myself, lied, pretended it's working or been overeating any more than any other obese person taking the meds. It's just luck, or something to do with my particular body's response, that meant 2.5 worked for me as well as 5, 7.5 or 10 does for other people.

Did you lose a stone in a month on 2.5mg? You are aware that is not the normal. A stone in a month is a calorie deficit of 1000kcal a day. Every day. Making it an unhealthy level for most women. So why am I rude and wrong for stating it.

Im not sure thats really true in the first month. Its really easy to lose 7lb of water in week one, which means only 2-3lb loss a week for the rest of the month!

SilenceInside · 15/02/2025 14:36

My TDEE when I started was 2400 cals meaning eating 1400 calories a day would be a 1000 cal deficit for me every day. I had an immediate and strong reaction to the 2.5mg dose, nothing I could about that it's just how my body responded. I was probably eating 800 cals a day on the highest suppression days and more like 1400 at the end of each week. Hence the initial large weight loss.

I also went right off eating most carbs, which apparently contributes to initial large weight loss. Again, not a choice, just what I felt like eating whilst taking the medication.

The overall effect is not dissimilar to the Fast 800 programme as far as I can tell.

I lost 11 pounds in my first month. My comment was just to counterbalance your claim that people who lost on 2.5 are lying, and lying to make others feel bad at that. I have not lied I have no reason to lie and have clearly said that I feel very lucky to be one of the people to respond at the starter dose.

It isn't necessarily true! I lost over a stone in a first month but, kid you not it was excess water and bloat. I was also huge to start with 😅. My face became much slimmer, even my shoes became looser!
I definitely wasn't starving myself.

HellNoWay · 15/02/2025 17:56

2.5mg didn't do much for me. 5 was a bit better. 7.5mg is great!!

2.5mg isn't meant to do much except get your body ready and used to the medication. I know it does help lots of people but try and ignore others and their journey and focus on yourself. You may need 7.5 or even more before the dose starts working. But it will! B patient, good things r coming :)

RunSlowTalkFast · 16/02/2025 08:38

I didn't feel suppression on 2.5mg or 5mg but from the bonus dose of 5mg I then lost 12lbs in about 8 weeks and have just gone from obese to overweight!

On 10mg now, not sure if I'm moving up on my next pen or not. I would persist if you can afford to!

1clavdivs · 16/02/2025 09:55

There was a brilliant post on one of the Facebook pages last week. A new user had been injecting wrongly for three weeks on 2.5mg and hadn't been getting any of the medication at all, but she hadn't realised. She'd still lost half a stone in that time.

It's possible that those with losses on 2.5mg have a bit of placebo effect going on, and it's probably wise to wait until you're on a higher dose to see if it's working for you.

Zempy · 16/02/2025 12:50

I think 7.5 is the lowest therapeutic dose. Those of us responding strongly to 2.5 are lucky to be honest.

I lost 12 pounds in the first three weeks. From 13:7 to 12:9 Mostly water I should think. However, I did have high appetite suppression and have rarely gone over 1000 calories a day because I just can’t eat what I used to.

Please keep going and trust that the medication will do what it should. Good luck.

Im intrigued how they were doing it wrong, had they failed to attach the needle? 🤣

Blue278 · 16/02/2025 13:13

How big are you OP? I was only 30.5 BMI when I started and got instant symptoms. Less body for the drug than someone with say 40 BMI. I’ve still followed the dose up to max though albeit with some months of staying on a lower dose.
2 stone in 10 months for me. Delighted with that.

That isn't a factor in how the drug works, otherwise starting BMI would be a dosage factor when prescribing. My BMI was over 40 and Mounjaro took effect from day 1.
I don't want to keep derailing the OPs thread but I also don't think it's helpful for anyone when untruths are listed on this board. We all have enough to deal with fighting off the thin tourists coming to tell us all how far and lazy we are and did we know we should just eat less cake!
Some people are really lucky and the jabs work from the very begining. Some are less lucky and it doesn't kick in until they hit the therapeutic doses. I hope further research might give us all some understanding of why that is. Is it just luck or could it be to do with something like our individual insulin resistance levels.
OP, carry on carrying on. Fingers firmly crossed for you that it all kicks in when you move up to 5mg.

This is so stupid. A calorie deficit is the difference between how many calories you need and how many you eat below that to lose weight. It has absolutely nothing to do with how many calories you used to eat 🤦🏻‍♀️

Very rude! I don’t think I ‘massively overate’, but then again, no one is on MJ whose relationship with food was ideal, maybe not even you. I stayed on 2.5 for three months, eating three meals a day, and lost nearly 2 stones. I am now on my second month of 5mg, still losing, about half way to my goal and not intending to go any higher unless absolutely necessary. Everyone is different, and for the OP, it just seems to be the case that 2.5 has no effect.

I lost a stone in a month (well less than that) on about two thirds of a 2.5mg dose so you’d probably hate me even more than those on 2.5 😂
I have been eating 1600 cals a day too so definitely not in any 1000 cal deficit but the weight has just dropped off. I was binge eating before but it was interspersed with days of eating healthily.
Basically everyone responds differently but not everyone losing loads has a massive deficit. I think it gets rid of inflammation which causes many to drop quite a bit.

It seems she'd been getting her friend to do it as she was needle-phobic. From the description either the friend was injecting in the priming dose (1 click) or just sticking the needle in, pushing the button, and taking it out again thinking it had delivered a dose.

I’ve seen a few people turning the pen one click instead of to the number one!

85reasons · 17/02/2025 07:22

@9ToGoal Actually, I lost a stone in my first month and wasn’t restricting my calories by that much at all.

For many people who are suffering inflammation, they will be retaining fluids that are released in the early weeks.

Nobody is saying that it’s a stone of fat that’s necessarily being lost, so there’s no need to say people are lying or drastically undereating in order to achieve these results.

batterypark · 23/02/2025 10:49

Small update, I’m now on the 5 dose and it feels very different. I feel like I’ve eaten a big dinner all the time. It’s much better. No side effects and I’m not wanting food all the time. Fingers crossed this works!
