Newbie, enough energy for exercise?

Hi Everyone

I've finally ordered my first pen. My BMI is 31 and I constantly feel so bloated and uncomfortable, I feel so fat for my small frame.

I run, walk everyday and go to the gym at least 3 times a week. I think if I didn't do this I'd be much heavier. My main issue is constantly thinking about food, constantly wanting more, eating lots and never ever feeling full. I can forget I've eaten and cook another meal, it's disgusting :(.

Reading these threads and learning about reduced food noise has made me want to try. Also makes me feel less alone, I'd love to eat something and feel satisfied, I'd love to not have to pre eat before I go out for dinner.

I was wondering if those om the injections had more or less energy as I still want to keep up with the exercise.

Due to take first injection today and hoping for a miracle x

Hello! Well done on the first step.

My recommendation is to find your 'month' thread (I am on the January one) as it can be really useful to chat to those at the same stage as you. A lot on my thread for example are at the moving up a dose stage so it's helpful to talk through experiences.

In terms of energy, I am not a mover so it's something I'm keen to address. However I definitely haven't found my energy any lower than before and in fact have been a bit more motivated to shift my wobbly butt. That is coming from a low base though. There are some lifters on my thread who seem to be managing fine.

I guest the balance will be making sure you fuel yourself when you don't feel like it. So maybe a bit of planning needed.

My energy increased and from very early on. I have increased my gym sessions significantly, both in terms of frequency and the work out itself

No, I rarely have enough energy for exercise other than walking, but then I didn’t before MJ!!

You can’t outrun a bad diet. See how you feel, do whatever exercise works for you. Trust in the process and the weight will fall away.

Thank you for the kind replies everyone :). @myladyjane I'll be checking out the Feb board, can't believe I've gone from on the fence to first dose!

@Onceachunkymonkey I know we're all different but that's great to hear, thank you x

@Zempy I am 100% proof you can't outrun a bad diet!!

I’ve had energy for exercise, but I’ve stayed on a low dose because I need to eat so can exercise a lot. I have BMR just over 1600 and use an average of 800 cal exercising, so I eat 1400 and lose 1kg a week. But am also much stronger and fitter than when started last year, which is the point for me. Good luck!!

I was a BMI of 31 and now it’s 23.5, which I’ve maintained for 2 months so far (because I kept changing my goal! Never did I think 23.5 would be my happy place!) I have lots of energy, pretty much from the start, I went low carb and even now I’m pretty low carb/sugar and I feel so good. However exercise still alludes me, I used to run but stopped a few years back. I want to restart at some point. I’m just being lazy! But I don’t think weight loss and exercise are mutually exclusive. Good luck on your journey.

I’m pretty active prior to MJ and while on it. I’m 6 weeks in now and have definitely had dips in energy levels, especially the day after a dose.

I’ve not been able to do as much exercise as I was doing but I haven’t entirely flopped out. I started on a half dose and have been increasing very slowly, one reason being I want to lose slowly and still be able to function. And for me that includes moderate exercise.

I don’t think MJ is compatible with training for a serious sporting event e.g. your first marathon, or putting on significant muscle. You just aren’t getting the calories to fuel training.

I went to the gym prior to MJ but have increased now as I’m not as fat so I find the classes easier & tbh, I don’t feel as self conscious. The first week I started MJ I felt tired but after that it’s been fine. I do get occasional tiredness the day of the injection - but I take it the night before I have my weekly ‘gym day off’.

I have plenty of energy for exercise.

I play Hockey competitively and have league matches every Saturday.

I chose to take my jab on Saturday evenings so that it's wearing off slightly by Fridays - I can then fit in a decent carby meal the night before a game. I also have hockey training every Monday evening (1.5 hours) and occasionally also play a second match on a Sunday.

Midweek I do one strength session and one hybrid (cardio/strength mix) and energy is fine for those. I can't lift as heavy as I used to by that will be some muscle loss along with the fat.

I've not gone any higher than 3.75mg and in 14 weeks have lost 2 stone.

I think if you're used to exercising and it's part of your routine you will be fine. If you were lazy before MJ, it's not going to change that! 😂
